Chapter Seventy-eight

Lukas perched on his desk, his unease reaching an all time high. He had pushed aside Alec’s suggestion for him to attend the dinner party but at this rate, he just might go ahead and do it.
A telltale beeping sound from the fax machine in his office made him turn around. Lukas frowned at this, having a fax machine was merely perfunctory, no one actually used it when there were emails.
He watched in tense silence as the document was slowly printed as the message came in. When it was completely printed out, Lukas strode over to the machine and pulled it out. He already felt like something was off so receiving an odd random fax sealed the deal.
Lukas felt all the air leave his lungs as he scanned the document, crumpling the piece of paper in his hand when he was done. He strode to the door and wrenched it open, sweeping out.
*‘Fucking Rogues!’* He couldn’t believe that they would do this even after he had given them so much leeway.
They had taken Claire.
Right as he got down to the first floor, his phone rang and with glancing at the screen he picked, already knowing that it was Alec.
“I already know.” He said shortly before his Viceroy could say a word. “Give me an update.”
If Alec was surprised by this, he said nothing. “I’m currently out front with Killian, Luna Claire’s bodyguard’s are all injured to varying degrees, including the backup that had been sent to keep an eye on her. I asked Logan Wilson from the private security agency to keep an eye on the city exits.” Alec rattled off.
Lukas’ already dark expression darkened further at the mention of Killian’s name but he didn’t care about the Emissary. He had been willing to play ball with the Rogues but then they had gone ahead to take what was his, they would be getting the consequences of their actions.
As soon as he stepped out the front doors of the mansion, Alec was already waiting there for him. Lukas didn’t bat an eye at the sight of his Viceroy intimately holding his mate’s personal assistant, “What did Logan say?”
“He immediately dispatched men around the city but still nothing.” Alec said heavily, curious about how Lukas had known that the Luna Queen was taken.
Lukas must have read the question in his eyes because he answered without being prompted. "The bastards sent a fax." He said quietly to Alec.
Recognition clicked behind his dark eyes which were framed by his glasses, his expression turning murderous. "Should have let me clean them out a long time ago."
Rosie listened intently to their conversation but she couldn't make head or tails of what they were talking about, she still felt weak and she could barely stand without Alec's support. She supposed that she should probably feel self conscious about her current position especially as the Alpha King was here but she was too worried about Luna Claire to care.
Someone else had been listening in on their conversation, Killian shouldered his way past Alec to face off Lukas. "You know who took her." He said steadily, it wasn't an accusation, it was merely a declaration of fact.
Lukas kept a poker mask on, "I don't appreciate you sticking your nose into my business." He said coldly, staring down his nose at Killian.
At this point, Lukas didn't care if Killian found out about the Rogues, he was going to be wiping them out tonight after all so it didn't matter anymore.
"As the Emissary to your country, its my duty to protect the humans here." Killian said, not backing down one bit.
Alec watched them both with a wary expression, they were both like live bombs and could go off at anytime.
Lukas however didn't grace Killian with another response, brushing past him and swiftly heading for the tall gates.
Alec inclined his head to the guards stationed at the gate however and they stood in Lukas' way, blocking his exit.
"Where are you going, Your Highness?" Alec asked in measured tones. He was worried that a location had been added to the fax sent to Lukas and he was currently trying to go after them all by himself.
Lukas turned around at this, his midnight blue eyes nearly glowing from the tumultuous emotions storming in them. "On a run, it's either that or I tear down the mansion, your pick."
Alec's expression remained unchanged, he couldn't trust Lukas, not when his mate was involved. "Then you wouldn't mind if I come with you?"
Killian was still left standing and watching them converse over his head, he stood on the fringes of the conversation, trying to read between the lines and decipher what they were doing.
"How can you think of exercise when Claire’s been kidnapped by brutes?" Killian interrupted Lukas' response.
Lukas pinched the bridge of his nose, his patience running thin. "The fax didn't contain any information of her location, it merely said she was taken and told me to expect another fax in six hours. So unless you intend to restrain me, I'll be going on that fucking run." He directed to his Viceroy, his voice rough but steady.
Alec couldn’t argue further, he had a feeling that if Lukas knew Claire’s location, he wouldn't be sneaking out to go meet her. Instead, he would loudly storm out and no one would be able to stop him.
The bodyguards in Lukas' way wisely stepped away, and the gates were quickly opened for the Alpha King to pass through.
Killian was the only one not having it. "Wait, fax? Did you receive a ransom note?" He asked, walking after Lukas.
Alec didn't try to stop the human, hoping that he would overstep while Lukas was in a rage and his Alpha King would shred him to bits. The Emissary was already unbearable but now that he had become obsessed with the Luna Queen for some reason, he was even more so.
"Do you want to sit for a bit?" Alec gently asked Rosie, already guiding her to Lukas' office.
They would most likely be spending the rest of their night in there waiting for the fax that would tell them where Luna Claire had been taken to.
