Chapter Sixty-five
Claire started to feel drowsy on the trip back to the mansion, she felt lighter like the slight cool breeze could blow her away like a piece of fabric.
Her head was uncluttered for the first time in days, and her thoughts were clear, the drive was a really great decision. By the time the tall gates came into view, she could barely hold her head up, her eyes drooping.
The stocky bodyguard stepped out of the passenger side to open up her door for her and if Claire was more alert she would have caught his small smile at the sight of her struggling not to fall over.
“Luna Claire? Do you mind if I carry you inside?” He offered in a quiet voice so as not to startle her.
Claire wanted to turn down the offer but then she thought about having to climb up the flight of stairs to the second floor and that made up her mind for her.
“Yes please, sorry for the trouble.”
“It’s no problem, Your Highness, I’m honored to help.”
Claire stepped out of the car and let herself be picked up, the bodyguard carrying her with ease like she weighed nothing.
The motion of being carried around lulled an already drowsy Claire to sleep, and by the time he got to the top of the stairs, she was already fast asleep.
So Claire wasn’t aware of them bumping into Lukas who had inadvertently come downstairs when he heard that Claire had returned from her drive. Nor was she aware of Lukas taking her from the bodyguard who bowed to his Alpha King and made his way out, back to his position.
Lukas carried Claire the rest of the way to their bedroom, her limp body fitting perfectly in his arms. The storm in his head calmed down a bit when she snuggled up against his chest although she was still asleep.
He gently placed her on the bed when he got to their bedroom, carefully taking off her coat and tucking her in. He brushed stray wisps of her hair out of her face, resisting the urge to trail his fingers over her beautiful face.
It would be difficult explaining his way out of that if Claire were to wake up. He just wanted to lift up the covers and join her on the bed, he wanted to fall asleep listening to her heartbeat but he couldn’t do that so after watching her peacefully sleep for a while, he reluctantly turned away and left.
Claire didn’t notice anything odd the next day, she thought that the bodyguard who had offered to carry her in the day before was either nice enough to get her comfortable, or he had run into a maid on his way to her bedroom who did it instead.
She was up early but yet she felt refreshed, dawdling in bed until it got fully bright out, glittering sun rays streaming in through the gaps in the drapes. Her hair was splayed out on her pillows, the blonde curls catching the sun rays. Her long locks looked gold under the morning sun, her unadjusted eyes squinting at the brightness.
Before she could get out of bed, there was already a knock on her door. Claire smiled softly to herself, she could guess who it was.
“You can come in, Rosie.” She called out.
The door opened immediately and Rosie peeked in before stepping in. “Good morning, Luna Claire.” She beamed, closing the door behind her. Her auburn hair was done in two pigtails today, her hazel eyes trapping the sunlight.
“I didn’t want to come too early and interrupt your sleep, how do you feel now?” She asked, walking inside.
Claire sat up against the headboard, pushing down the covers. Rosie wouldn’t have been able to interrupt her sleep anyway because she had been up since the break of dawn, when it was barely light.
“I feel much better today but I’ll still be taking the day off,” Claire said honestly, an idea hitting her. “What do you say about taking the day off as well and watching TV shows with me?”
Rosie’s hazel eyes widened in surprise at this, she hadn’t been expecting such an offer and reflexively tried to turn it down. “I don’t think…”
“You’d be keeping me company, think of it as office hours because you’d still be doing your job.” Claire was quick to convince her, she knew that Rosie was too professional to easily ditch a day of work without good reason.
It was easier to convince her with that line, the auburn haired werewolf brightening up. “That I can do, Luna Claire. Will you be having breakfast now?”
Claire got down from the bed and stretched her arms above her head, “Yes, I will. Have you had breakfast yet?”
Rosie beamed, “Yes I have.” She said, turning to leave. “I’ll head to the kitchens for your breakfast now.” She informed Claire, heading for the door.
Claire waited till she left to undress, heading to the bathroom. She was too lazy to wash her hair, plus she wouldn’t be leaving her room for a while so it was easy to skip that step.
She dressed up in the spacious bathroom, putting on another comfy pair of pajamas. She had never really gotten the chance to properly wear the cutesy silk outfits because she usually slept in old t-shirts and comfy shorts.
By the time she came out again, her breakfast was already on a side table. Rosie had left as well, probably to give Claire some privacy.
She ate heartily, picking up her tray after she was done with plans to take it to the kitchens. She barely got to the end of the hallway before she bumped into a harried maid who panicked when she saw the Luna Queen holding her own tray.
Claire didn’t mind, she had done everything for herself while growing up but the maid wouldn’t have it, quickly taking the tray from her hands and hurrying off with it.
She had no other choice but to return to her bedroom, it was time for her movie date with Rosie. She texted her assistant when she got back to the bedroom, they would be hanging out in the sitting room.
Claire was tempted to take with her one of the many pillows on the bed because they were more comfortable than the throw pillows and the decorative pillows in the sitting room.
The sitting room was different from the receiving room, it was a rarely used room. It had a center fireplace, and honey-hued decor which made it quite homely and warm.
Claire gave in eventually and grabbed a pillow from the bed, wearing furry slippers, she made her way to the sitting room.
Rosie hadn’t shown up yet, her assistant had most likely gone to change into something more casual as she had worn formal clothes earlier.
Claire settled in to wait for her, getting comfortable on a couch. She was relieved that she had brought a pillow with her because the pillows in the sitting room were too hard to be comfortable.
