Chapter Seventy

The Rogue werewolf sat tensely on the wooden chair in the dingy motel room until he was certain that Alpha King Lukas had completely left. Only then did he rise to his feet and sweep down the stairs, the silent werewolf behind him following quickly.
This Rogue was Dave Woods, and Lukas had been right on the money because he was the unspoken leader of the revolution. He ripped off his face mask as he stalked through the empty diner, his sunglasses going off next.
The suspicious-looking individual that had been seated in the diner got up as well, following along. The three of them made their way out of the motel, the counter clerk not even lifting a brow at their exit.
Right by the side of a road was a another black clad man that seemed to be passed out on the side of the road. The road was deserted, Lukas' car long gone.
Dave hurried over to this figure, his face fully shown now. He had grey streaks in his dark hair, and age lines around his eyes and mouth.
The person lying by the side of the street had his face bare, dark hair cut short. He had a bleeding cut on the side of his head but other than that he was unharmed and only seemed to be dazed from the blow to his head.
When he ascertained that the werewolf was just fine, the concern in Dave's eyes morphed to anger. He pulled the young werewolf up by his collar, "What the fuck were you thinking, Jay? Do you fucking realize that you could have fucking died?" He lashed out, the lines around his eyes and mouth deepening.
The werewolf referred to as Jay pressed his pale lips into a grim line. "I had him dad, I was going to fix things..."
Dave's eyes flashed and he slapped his son hard across his face, making him fall back into the dirt. "Like hell you did! I told you to bloody stay out of this."
Jay stayed quiet this time, more blood spilling from his split lip. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, smearing the tan skin with blood.
Dave rose to his feet and picked up his ringing phone, furrows on his brows. "What?" He snapped into the phone.
The person on the other side seemed to cringe backward, "Uhh Boss? The special visitor is here, he's asking to see you."
Dave scowled at this, "The set time was three o'clock, why is he here three hours early?" He griped.
There was rustling through the phone like the Rogue was shrugging. "No idea, Boss, he's just asking to see you."
"Fine, I'll be there in a bit." He grumbled, he hung up and glared at his son who was scrambling to his feet. "Where did you get the weapon, Jay?" He asked coldly, realization clicking behind his eyes.
Jay looked nervous for the first time which was saying a lot considering that he had been caught trying to assassinate the Alpha King. "I uh... I-"
Granted, the revolution had weapons but it was simple semi automatic pistols, nothing as severe as a sniper rifle. Dave's expression soured further, he could already guess where his son had gotten the weapon from and the implication of it made him feel sick.
"You know what, I don't want to hear it." He cut off his stuttering son, turning to the other two that had remained silent behind him all this time.
"Bring the car around, we're returning to the base." He ordered shortly, tapping his foot as a means to expel some of the emotions rioting within his chest.
Dave felt like he was standing on the precipice of a sheer drop and that his son's action had pushed him over the edge. Jay shooting Alpha King Lukas would be the trigger and he feared that there was no turning back.
The car ride was tense as hell, Dave sitting quietly with a dangerous expression beside his injured son who also knew well enough to keep his mouth shut.
They were heading to Haven, a small unassuming town at the furthest end of Lukas' territory, following shortcuts and unpopular paths, they would make it back from Pine Creek in less than an hour.
The werewolf behind the wheel made quick work of the journey, about breaking the speed limit as he pressed down on the gas.
Dave Woods kept his gaze fixed on the window but he barely saw the beautiful scenery that they drove past. He hardly saw the bright green trees, blue skies, and colorful shrubbery, his head cluttered with important issues.
There was dissension amongst the Rogues that he led but he never imagined that it ran deep enough that even his only son was a part of it. The Rogues were starting to get tired of his diplomatic way of handling things, they wanted to use underhanded methods of violence.
Dave had been barely able to keep then in line and from what had happened today, it was clear that his men no longer listened to him. This was a really bad time for the *'special visitor'* to show up, he couldn't help but feel like the visitor had meticulously planned this all from the very start.
He was furiously trying to think of a way to salvage things but he felt like a trapped rat that was at the mercy of the human that had caught it.
As soon as the car drove up the driveway of the building being used as the Rogue base, Dave was already out of the car, his black boots already hitting the ground before the car key was out of the ignition.
"Get yourself treated," He tossed flippantly to his son. "And head back to the house, you're grounded until I say so."
Jay looked like he would like to protest this decision but he wisely held back his words, grumbling as he got down from the car and headed for a bike laying on the lawn.
Dave continued his journey to the base, the Rogues that had accompanied him to see Alpha king Lukas joining him.
He was met in the hallway by another werewolf, he was a burly individual, towering with a shaved head.
"Clay." Dave acknowledged tightly when his unofficial second in command approached him.
Clay crossed his arms, his muscles bulging. "How did the talk go?" He asked with a trace of cynicism in his deep voice.
Dave stopped trying to manage things and instead said bluntly, "Were you aware that Jay intended to attack the Alpha King?"
