Chapter Thirty

Claire let her eyes slip shut, she wasn't the least bit sleepy but she needed some respite. She couldn't believe that her plan had fallen through so easily.
She sighed heavily and squirmed around trying to get more comfortable. She got absorbed into her thoughts, thinking of being stuck with Lukas for as long as he chose to have her around.
Claire was so distracted that she didn't notice the door get pushed open, nor Lukas walking in. She hadn't been kidding when she said that she didn't feel too well at dinner, she still felt nauseous, slightly terrified at the thought of being completely at Lukas' mercy.
Not expecting it, Claire flinched badly when she felt someone slip into bed behind her. She had her back to the door so she couldn't tell who it was but the moment those familiar arms wrapped around her waist, she knew right away.
Lukas held her tenderly, his big body warming her from behind. Claire had never been held like that before.
Honestly, this side of Lukas was the hardest to deal with because although she knew that he hated everything about her, she was more than willing to eat out of his hand every time he treated her gently. That didn't sound particularly healthy.
"How do you feel now?" His soft whisper filled her ears.
Goosebumps popped out on Claire’s skin, her face a soft red as she looked downwards shyly. She wanted to push him away, wanted to call him names and lash out at him for making her miserable but she couldn’t. She was like soft putty in his hands to do as he wished, she was certain that if he tried to kiss her then, she would kiss him back without hesitation.
It made her tear up again because she didn't know what else to do. Was it possible to hate and love someone at the same time? Because that encompassed how she felt for Lukas.
Especially in the way that he turned her face to his, genuine concern bleeding into his eyes that looked like the night sky. "Is there anything I could do to make you feel better?"
Claire could only stare up at him with glassy eyes, unable to form a response. This side of Lukas hurt even more because she knew he didn't mean it. Would there be another woman that would get to see only this side of him? She would be a werewolf, wouldn't she?
Lukas tilted his head to the side when he noticed Claire trembling ever so softly. He had moved so that he was practically hovering right over her and she was directly under him, staring at him with eyes that begged him to eat her up.
The Fated mate bond was truly a scary thing, he hated and loved the little human that fate had spitefully thrown at him. Each emotion warring side by side inside of him, the battle so intense that he couldn't even control which side he showed.
He had planned to stop by the room to mock and taunt her some more before returning back to work but the moment he had seen her curled up like that, like she was lonely and hurt, he couldn't stop himself from checking up on her.
Just like he couldn’t stop himself from leaning down to claim her lips, drinking down the soft gasp that escaped her soft lips at the action. It was like having a split personality, he was the one that had hurt her earlier but now he consoled her. The whiplash left invisible cracks on him.
This was supposed to be a punishment for the human that had ruined his life and everything that he had planned for, so why was he suffering alongside her? Why did it feel like there was liquid fire under his skin whenever he touched her?
Lukas felt blood rush into his ears when Claire kissed him back, her tears falling on his face. When did it happen? When did he start holding back on what he really wanted to do? The first time they met? The moment he announced that she was his Fated mate back at the resort suite?
Claire gasped when Lukas broke their kiss, desperately trying to catch her breath as he hungrily kissed down the column of her slender neck, his sharp teeth marking up her soft skin like he wanted to dig his teeth in.
Even as he bit and sucked bruises on her neck and collarbones, his hands didn't give her any respite, slipping under her flimsy nightdress to deliberately caress every bit of her soft sensitive skin.
Claire’s eyes slipped shut in pleasure when his tongue found her nipple, a soft moan slipping out when his heated mouth found the dusky tip. That soft sound startled her and brought her back to earth.
Her eyes flew open in horror, a stricken look on her face as she realized what she had been about to agree to. She pulled her hands away from Lukas' shoulder like he burned her, pushing him away in the next moment.
"Let go of me!" She demanded, her voice shaky with tears.
Lukas seemed to get a hold of himself at this point too, pulling himself off Claire in slight confusion. When he looked down, he noted that he had almost ripped her nightdress right off her body, and dark bruises were already forming on her neck where he had bitten her.
Claire scrambled away from Lukas when she got the chance to, wrapping the sheets around her to protect her modesty. "I'm not fine!" She blurted out, tears in her voice as she answered his previous question. "What do you think? You make me so miserable!"
Lukas leaned back slightly at this outburst, he hadn't been expecting it. His thoughts were also a bit muddled so he didn't know how to respond. He just got up and straightened his shirt before walking right out.
Claire watched him leave, speechless. She didn't know how she expected him to react to what she said but what she didn't expect was for her to feel guilty about lashing out. She sighed miserably and curled up again, she had no idea what to do with herself.
