Chapter Ninety-one

Rosie wasn’t sure she had heard right, not until Alec rose to his feet with her in his arms like she weighed nothing. She expected him to follow through with his words and was surprised when instead of heading to the door, Alec gently placed her on his desk.
Rosie looked up, a small sound of surprise leaving her when Alec parted her legs to get closer to her. He took her face in one hand, his other hand hiking up her thigh.
She only caught a look of dark hunger in his eyes before he claimed her lips, his tongue invading her mouth as he hands trailed up her body.
Rosie didn’t get the chance to think, she didn’t want to think. She laced her hands behind Alec’s neck to pull him closer, her legs doing the same around his waist. She felt an irrepressible urge to be pressed up against him, she wanted to drown in their shared kiss.
She was the very last person to be this impulsive, kissing the Alpha King’s Viceroy in his office - which was also her work place by the way - but all rational thinking flew out the window when Alec nibbled her bottom lip and delved into the caverns of her mouth again.
The red-head threw her head back in pleasure when Alec mapped a line of kisses down her neck, her clothes felt restrictive , she really wanted to take them off right then.
Alec seemed to think the same because he kissed her breathless once more and then broke off to stare darkly at her. “Fuck, we should move this to the bedroom.”
Rosie just stared at him with a dazed expression, she wasn’t sure her legs were going to cooperate with her if she had to move from her perch.
Alec cursed again and in the next moment, he took her into his arms again.
Rosie just hid her face in the curve of his shoulder, she should probably be more bothered by the fact that anyone could see her being carried in such a suggestive position by Alec but she was too far gone to care.
She wanted this.

“Where’s my prize for eating up all my food?” Lukas caught his mate by the waist again when his tray was cleared out by a couple of maids.
Claire had come to expect this, Lukas always wanted to be in contact with her no matter what, it was something that she quickly had to adapt to. It was rather strange, considering that she thought for the longest time that he despised touching her.
They would still need to have a conversation about that but that would be for later, for now, Lukas needed to recover completely.
Claire was indulgent like she had been ever since Lukas regained consciousness, “What do you want?” She asked without thinking, immediately regretting her words. “Wait, not till you’re better.” She said in a rush.
To her surprise, Lukas’ injured hand came to join his other hand on her waist. “I’m all better now.” He said bluntly.
Claire’s lips parted in shock, “Y-You shouldn’t be moving your hand so soo…” She started to say in a panic.
“You’re cute when you’re worried about me.” Lukas smiled, his ‘injured’ hand cupping her face.
“Don’t try to distract me, and please stop moving your hand.” She pleaded, not wanting any complications. Who knew that Lukas would be such a difficult patient?
“But I’m fine,” He reassured her, brushing his thumb over her cheek. “If you don’t believe me, you can call the nurse over to take off the bandages.”
Claire got up to call the nurse, and it wasn’t to take off Lukas’ bandages but to ask if he could be knocked out with an anesthetic so that he didn’t hurt himself worse.
The nurse showed up in no time, she was just as cheery as she had been the first time, sharing none of Claire’s concern as she went over questions that were a part of her procedure.
She didn't bat an eye either when Lukas said he was all healed, it made Claire wonder if she was just bad at her job.
She didn't want to be that person but she was certain that a bullet piercing clean through a body part meant that it left a hole behind. How could Lukas have possibly healed in the span of mere hours?
The nurse seemed to sense her turbulent emotions as she undid Lukas bandage to reveal perfectly healed skin underneath. She called the Luna Queen to the side to whisper something to her, the sparkly stars never leaving her eyes.
"I apologize if no one informed you, Your Highness," She bowed, clutching her clipboard close. "But werewolves have advanced healing capabilities, and as the descendant of an ancient line of powerful werewolves, Alpha King Lukas has better recuperative abilities than most."
Claire just dumbly nodded to the nurse's words as she rambled on, it didn't make a lot of sense to her but she had no issues with it either, as long as Lukas was all better.
She thanked the nurse and sent her off with a smile, closing the door. Only to turn around and slam right into Lukas who had quietly walked up behind her.
Claire forced herself not to scold him for walking around so soon, it would truly take her some time to adjust to this part of werewolves.
He wrapped his powerful arms around her and held her close, burying his face in the curve of her neck and breathing in deeply. It gave Claire the feeling that he couldn't breathe when he was apart from her and that caused a twinge in her heart.
A twinge that was quickly replaced by a moan which spilled past her lips like a fountain when Lukas gently sank his teeth into the mating mark on her neck, pleasure filling her up instead.
Lukas' arms instinctively tightened around her and his voice sounded like a growl against her skin, it caused a shudder to ripple through Claire.
"I want to break you in half." He muttered darkly against her skin.
Claire smiled through the haze of pleasure that was quickly fogging up her mind, her head slightly tilted back. "That sounds scary." She said in a syrupy voice.
Lukas immediately straightened up, tilting her head so he could look in her eyes. "Are you scared of me?"
Claire let herself drown in the stormy seas that were his eyes for a little while, she could see the worry and uncertainty in Lukas' eyes as he asked that. This was coming from the same person that wanted her to see him as a monster when they first met.
She lifted her hands from his broad shoulders and buried them in his hair instead, giving him a sly smile. "If I were scared, would I do this?" She asked coyly, having to stand up her tiptoes to kiss Lukas.
It would be the first time that she would be kissing him unprompted, it felt very nice. It felt even nicer when Lukas took control of the kiss, wiping her of her ability to take in oxygen.
Claire was starting to adjust to the fact that Lukas' shoulder was healed now so she didn't protest when he swept her off her feet. She thought back to how he had made her feed him simply because he wanted it and not because he was incapable of feeding himself.
It was strange to be taken to their bedroom by Lukas, seeing as he had never willingly slept in the room before. Claire didn't doubt that how Lukas was currently treating her was fake or a ruse but she still needed an explanation for the past they shared.
She felt a little chill when Lukas carefully placed her on the bed, she sat up when Lukas went down on one knee beside her, her confusion evident on her face. She had been expecting a lot of things when she was carried here but this wasn't one of them.
"I want to propose and ask you to be mine in every way possible but before that I have to apologize." He said steadily, holding her gaze.
Claire was seated on the bed facing him at this point. She couldn't believe that she could be any more surprised than she already was but Lukas just kept pulling out new surprises.
She waited with wide glassy eyes, she had expected that they would have a conversation about it at a later time, she didn't imagine that Lukas would apologize first thing.
And to tell the truth, she had already forgiven him. There was something about someone else selflessly protecting you with their lives that wiped their slates clean but she would take his apology nonetheless because she deserved it.
"I'm sorry, Claire." He said simply and Claire felt tears prick her eyes, Lukas just kept tugging on her heart strings.
