Chapter Nineteen

Lukas sat quietly under a tree outside the hotel. A bench had been built around the tree specifically for guests to sit on.
He had chosen an ideal spot where he could see everyone leaving the hotel but they couldn't see him because he was seated at a spot that the hotel lights could not reach.
Lukas sat rigidly, his senses on high alert as he intently watched everyone who went in and out of the hotel.
This was very unlike him, setting a trap and then waiting for the person to fall for it was so not Lukas' style but he found a morbid pleasure in chasing down the little human.
A small part of him was hoping that Claire wouldn't try to leave again, which was ridiculous considering how he treated her. He was certain that she would try to leave again.
Just as he thought that another person walked out of the hotel, it was none other than Claire. The little human was dressed in clothes that made Lukas stare in distraction for a few moments, he snapped out of it when she was about to go out of his line of sight.
He got up from the bench that he had been keeping watch on and went after her.
Lukas had originally thought that the little nuisance was a boring pushover but she proved that image wrong each time she did something daring.

Claire ignored the stares she got from the werewolves milling around. As long as they left her alone, she didn't care if they stared.
She had gathered up her long blonde hair into a high ponytail to keep it out of the way, the bottom of her jacket brushing against her bare thighs as she started around to the parking lot where the cars were kept.
Claire had never hotwired a car before but she had heard a few of her wild friends talk about how they did it with ease, and they had shown her once or twice.
Never in her wildest dreams did she think that she would ever have to hotwire a car, she wasn't even sure she knew what to do.
First, she would have to find an old model of a car and seeing that she didn't know how to break into one, she would just hope to be lucky enough to find an unlocked one.
For Claire who was never an impulsive person and who always thought things over before she did them, she was acting like a totally different person.
Because she didn't have a proper plan, her preparations stopped when she found a car to hotwire. If she hadn't been caught by then, she would just drive down to the gates and demand to be let out.
Unlike Lukas, the other werewolves couldn't keep her hostage and Claire was prepared to make a fuss if she had to.
Just as she got halfway around the hotel to the parking lot, someone slammed into her, pinning her up against the wall of the hotel.
Claire gasped in shock, looking up to find Lukas staring down at her. They were both partially hidden in the darkness but she knew who it was instantly.
Lukas had one of his arms against the wall beside Claire’s head, his other arm possesively around her waist to keep her from bolting. "Going somewhere without me, little human?"
Claire was trapped in between Lukas' hard body and the wall but she remained unfazed. She had expected something along this lines considering that she had literally walked into a trap.
"It almost like you enjoying watching me run just so you can chase me down." She muttered, her voice dripping poison.
Lukas was slightly surprised by this, he had never thought about it that way. What unsettled him was how much truth there was in that sentence.
"And you keep running every time." He drawled, readying to pick her up and take her back inside with him.
Claire didn’t give him a chance to, she lifted her leg with as much force as she could muster in such a cramped space, hitting Lukas in the groin with her knee.
His groan of pain was very satisfying and as he stumbled back and bent over, she laughed and dashed away.
She had to leave her jacket behind but it didn't matter. She would keep following her plan, she was confident that she could actually make it this time.
The parking lot was empty of people so it was easy for Claire to search around. She felt young and alive as she ran around, peeking into cars and trying them.
She was also very careful, the last thing she needed was for a car's alarm to start blaring.
She found a perfect candidate after a few minutes of frantic searching, the owner was most likely an elderly werewolf because not only was it an ancient model, it was also left unlocked.
Giggling to herself, she opened the door and sat in the driver's seat, excitement bubbling in her middle.
Good thing she had learnt to drive stick because she was the designated driver seeing as she never got drunk in clubs or didn't go at all. So her college friends always called her to help pick them up.
Now that the first step was completed, she had to figure out how to start the car. Some of her male friends had jokingly showed her how to do it in her capacity as the designated driver. Claire had been disapproving of it at the time but now she was very grateful to them for teaching her such an important life skill.
With a bit of a struggle, she pulled open the covering under the dash on the passenger seat, squinting in the dim light of the parking lot as she tried to connect the right cords together.
She just had to connect the ignition cord to the battery and then a couple more cords. Claire didn't have the faintest clue of what she was doing, she was just randomly connecting cords and hoping a miracle happened.
And it did, the car roared to life smoothly making Claire sigh in relief as she closed up the covering. Now all she had to do was run before Lukas recovered enough to come find her.
Driving serenely out of the parking lot, Claire felt her heart soar when she started to leave the hotel behind.
She couldn't believe it! She couldn't believe that she had actually gotten this far, she just might make it this time, her freedom was within her reach.
