Chapter Seventy-six
"Shit!" Clay cursed when he heard the shattering of a nearby car window, shoving away the limp body of the human away from him and tossing away the cloth. "What the fuck is going on out there?" He opened his door to yell, ducking back in just as fast when a bullet whizzed past his head.
"An unknown attacker jumped us!"
"He's in the shadows, we can't tell where he's shooting from!"
Clay could roughly make out what was going on from the loosely shouted words by his men who were scrambling to get into their respective cars to avoid getting shot. He knew he should have shot that gutsy bodyguard, it had to be him.
"It doesn't fucking matter! We've achieved our goal, roll out!" He snarled out, the werewolf behind the wheel of the car he was in already driving off.
So it was in a rush that they drove off in a flurry of screeching tires and gunshots.
Clay looked back through the rear windshield to catch a glimpse of the person who had been shooting at them. It was evident that it was a single person from the few shots that had come from a single spot but it was also evident that whoever it was had a really good aim.
In the back-lights of the cars, he caught the tall figure of someone coming out of the shadows and could instinctively tell that whoever it was, they were human.

Killian hadn't planned to go on a drive, he just found that he couldn't sit still and without even realizing it, he was already pulling out his car from the hotel garage.
He hadn't heard from Claire in days and to make it worse, she hadn't made any appearance in public since their last meeting. He had found out that she would be going for a dinner party that night which explained why he was so restless.
He had no intention of approaching her, he could guess that Lukas would take measures against that. And it would be bad publicity for both of them if he were to attend a female only dinner party just to speak to an already engaged woman.
After circling the the blocks around his hotel and the dinner party venue several times, he inadvertently started driving down the route that Claire would take while she was going for the dinner party. It was an unconscious action and even when he caught himself, he found that he couldn't stop.
At most if he saw her coming ahead, he would merely take a turn or simply drive past her. He still worried that she wasn't okay though, his worries heightened by the fact that she had been cooped up in Lukas' mansion for days. But she had to be fine if she was attending a dinner party, he still had to see for himself.
So it was a little startling to have his journey cut short by an abandoned car right at the center of the road. Upon closer inspection, he found a werewolf bleeding out on the ground, the doors of the car left open like it's occupants had left in a hurry.
A sound off to the side of the road caught his attention, making him hurry over there with his weapon drawn only to slow down when he saw another unconscious werewolf.
His growing suspicions solidified when he saw the lady hidden behind the car, he recognised her at first sight. It was Claire's personal assistant, he had seen had appear in the media with Claire before.
Claire wasn't here though... Killian felt his heart sink, he had heard noises on the other side of the street. Without stopping to check if the assistant was fine, he sprinted across the street only to skid to a halt when he saw a group of suspicious looking people hurrying into vehicles.
He couldn't barge right into the middle of them much like he wanted to and demand that they return Claire, it didn't help that he showed up too late and he couldn't tell what car she had been put in.
Killian leveled his gun, aiming for the masked werewolf closest to him. The lighting was terrible as the lights on the street had been put out, no doubt by Claire’s kidnappers. He could barely see but he had always had good aim so he heard the telltale shout of pain from the werewolf he had been aiming for.
He doubted that the hit was lethal but he couldn't just stand by and watch them take Claire away, he had to do something. As soon as his shot landed, the masked werewolves retaliated, gunshots ringing out but Killian had already moved from his previous spot, aiming for another one of them.
This time he missed, his bullet shattering a window instead. He was forced to duck in an alleyway when they changed their trajectory and aimed from the spot he had shot his second bullet from.
"What the fuck is going on out there?!" A loud werewolf stuck his head out of a car to yell.
Killian’s eyes were already adjusting to the darkness and without hesitation, he shot at the loud werewolf, gritting his teeth in disappointment when he dodged.
A flurry of answers responded to the werewolf's question, giving Killian some respite as they were too distracted to return his shots.
"It doesn't fucking matter! We've achieved our goal, roll out!" Killian heard that same loud werewolf say, his voice slightly muffled because he was inside a car.
His heart sank at this, that only meant one thing... They had already taken Claire!
Uncaring of his safety, Killian stepped out of the shadows as the cars drove away, cursing the fact that he was unable to do anything. They left in a hurry, their blinking red back-lights quickly fading away into darkness.
Killian cursed and threw his emptied gun on the ground, he wanted to punch something to expel some of the frustration that he felt.
*'Why would anyone want to kidnap Claire?'* It had to be... It had to be Lukas, the bastard.
Killian stormed to the other side of the street again, intending to drive up to Lukas' mansion and punch his teeth in.
