Do me a favor
I stood up, slipped on my pants and shirt and walked out of the room quietly. I walked down to my room, showered, then returned to the now lively house.
Pack members from different houses of ours were here. Why? I was not sure. I followed the commotion into the dining area, which seemed to be the most acceptable place to hold such a large crowd.
"Whats going on?" I managed to bump into Renee. "Meeting called by Alpha."
"Why didn't I get the memo?" "I dont know."
I looked around the room. The men and women who were in charge of the other houses under the command of the Alpha and Luna were present. The best warriors were present. So why didn't I know?
"Hey guys?" A woman's voice interfered. "Hey Scarlet." Renee greeted in a monotone.
"Wooo what got you so dull?" "Things on my mind." He refused to go into to depth. "But Im cool."
"How are you Bane?" My biggest mistake was looking into her eyes. Theres that twinkle again. I can see how she yearned for that spark between us but honestly, there was absolutely nothing there. Well nothing I can see.
"Im doing pretty good. And you?" "Im okay...now." She smiled.
I refused to comment back and by the wide eyed look on Renee's face, l'am pretty sure he is catching on to this awkward encounter.
"Ladies and gentleman."
Bane walked in and took a seat at the head of the table, surrounded by his pack.
"Some of you know and some of you do not know but we have been warned of a threat towards us. We were given word from a visitor..." He seemed hesitant to proceed at first. "A vampire came and-"
\-"A vampire?" -"On the grounds?" -"A warning from a leech?"
Gasps, murmurs, and whispers flooded the dining hall.
Some seeking the answers to their many questions. Some wanted to know why while others still couldn't believe a vampire was close enough to give that warning. Others were still stunned that we allowed her to leave...alive.
"Quiet."
Alpha mumbled but the controversy continued between the pack members.
"QUIET!!" He yelled. A thunderous roar that quieted the entire room within seconds. Everyone looked on. Their questions still on the tips of their tongues but they knew the consequences of speaking without being asked of.
"Now, the vampire has come to us to let us know of a threat against our family. Someone wants to destroy us. However, I will make sure that it will NEVER happen."
He called out to the men and women who took control of the other pack houses under the command of him.
"I want all of you on high alert. If there is an intruder..." His face stern. "Kill it." He ordered them.
"Warriors. Tomorrow morning, I want half of you here. Training with me will commence at the crack of dawn. The other half, you will patrol until I call upon you."
Warriors nodded in understanding.
"DOES EVERYONE UNDERSTAND?" He questioned. With no response of disagreement to his direct orders, he dismissed everyone before he disappeared into his office.
"Hey Renee, I will be right back."
He seemed lost. Ill talk to him about that later. I walked up to Alpha Bane's office. After a friendly command to come in, I walked in, taking a seat across from him.
"You alright?" I questioned.
"I'am fine, just..need to figure some shit out." He commented. "You know I dont take kindly to threats toward my family."
"Yeah, I know." He did not like the idea of being threatened and many people knew it. Even if the threat was no acted out, he made sure they never would. He disposed of them. He did not send his warriors and fighters to do it. He made sure he did it on his own.
"Bane I need you to do me a favor. Can you go into town and pick up the papers from the construction site?"
"Yeah, no problem." "Thanks." I stood up and walked over to the door.
"Alpha?"
"Yeah." He dug into his desk drawer. Pulling a file full of papers, he opened it and began sorting through it.
"Why didn't I get the memo? About the meeting and all?" I questioned.
"Well. You seemed sort of..busy." He looked at me, a small grin grew onto his face. "Didn't want to bother you thats all. "
"Oh. Uh um...thanks." I murmured.
I left. I walked down into kitchen where a few members were preparing to leave. I said my 'see yah' before they exited the back door and disappeared into the wooded area.
After some were gone, I dug into the refrigerator for a drink before I left. I picked up a gatorade. "I have to ask." Scarlet, who I assumed had left with the others, walked into the kitchen. "What the hell is going on?"
I knew, or hoped, that she was referring to the controversy regarding the threat. Even if I knew more than most, I was unable to disclaim it.
"Well Renee." I smiled. "I'am unable to tell you anything." "Come on Brent." She tugged at my arm playfully. "I can keep a secret. I promise."
"No." "Pleaseee!" She begged.
"I said no-" That toxic scent hit my nose. Like a damn drug to me. Temptation. It smelled so good. A weakness.
I looked toward the entrance of the kitchen. She stood there. Her eyes were wide as she looked at me, then Renee, then Scarlet's hand that was resting on my bicep. I quickly pulled my arm away. Her face was shocked at first then quickly softened to a look of carelessness.
"Hi, you're the Luna's friend right? I'am Renee." She quickly introduced herself, completely unaware that this was the reason her and I could never be.
"Yeah hi." Renee didn't seem too pleasant this morning.
She walked deeper into the kitchen and over to the kitchen cupboard. I could hear the sound of her nervous beating heart as she looked for something.
