Pending death

RENEE'S POV

"What made you escape from your pack, were you rejected?", Angel asked again pushing the subject further.

When I heard that, I I looked away while heaving a breath. It was a difficult topic to talk about and it was the last thing I wanted to mention.

"I don't want to talk about that", I spoke the truth and in a low voice.

"Oh, I'm sorry for that. I didn't intend to hurt you", She pulled the mirror down and looked at me with pity in her eyes. "But I hope one day you'll be fine. If you haven't got a mate, you will probably find him. Here on every full moon, we all shift and gather in the woods. Women chase men and whoever they find, they keep them for the night."

I nodded. It was interesting. There were different dynamics in the Silvertails Pack, quite different from my pack. My Alpha, the father of Bane didn't really care much about his people except for those close to him. He and his men killed all those that were found guilty of the smallest offense.

He only cared about my father as the beta and my father didn't love me. So it didn't benefit me.

"It's quite interesting. My life has entirely changed since Madam Sheryl took me under her roof. I enjoy every day and night. And while I'm not sure of your future, I can promise you'll enjoy it too if you're meant to stay here-that's if your life is spared- which I hope it is," She opened a lipstick and plucked her lips out before applying some. "You sound like a sweet girl."

I smiled to myself and looked away. Just then I recalled the Alpha's words.

My death was pending.

It was by six in the evening that the room became crowded. Girls rushed in and out, changing clothes, applying makeup, and finding shoes. The whole hallway was a mess.

I stayed on my bed, quiet and lost in my thoughts till Madam Sheryl came to the door and the other girls cleared out of the hallway.

"Still awake?" She asked while stepping inside while wearing a tight red dress that pushed her breasts out, exposing half of her chest. "Get some rest. It's going to get busy downstairs and upstairs so stay in your room," She looked around the room, eyes flickering over the windows. "Since you haven't tried fleeing, I suppose all will be well till later when the Alpha comes to collect you."

I threw my legs on the ground and nearly stood up, "Let me leave. Please." I pleaded after spending hours and hours in silence.

She placed her finger underneath my chin and blocked my way. Forcing my head to rise, I met with her threatening glare and she responded to me, "Even if you do leave, there's no purpose for you out there. You're a runt and your pack has been destroyed. Where will you possibly go? You'll be sleeping on the streets, thrown around like trash, and abused."

I lowered my gaze.

She wasn't wrong.

Where could I even go?

Even if I returned back to my hometown, anyone alive there would kill me solely out of anger or pleasure. I was a runt, entirely useless. And my brother was still after me.

"Get some rest." She said while slamming the door shut and leaving.

In just a few minutes, I began to hear the sounds of people shuffling down the stairs and the doors slamming open and shutting. I stayed to myself, biting the ends of my nail, wondering if tonight was the last night I'd live.

I escaped from one threat and came straight into the hands of another. How worse was my fate going to be?

Angel rushed into the room and said, "I just need to grab some things. Sorry if I disturbed you." Her hand went straight to the drawers and she pulled something out.

"No, it's fine." I mumbled.

She walked out as quickly as she came in. The sounds from the outside rose and so did my curiosity. I got up on my feet and finally reached the door. Grabbing the handle, I opened it and peeked outside. The sounds became louder and there were a lot of them.

Music was playing downstairs and there was a melody of rough voices along with sweet ones. And moans. My brows furrowed as I opened the door wider to look at the hallway leading to the other rooms. Men were coming upstairs with girls in their arms and walking down covered in sweat and slick.

A staggering breath parted my throat. I rushed back into my room upon finding Lexi, one of the girls I had spoken to, come upstairs with a man. Their hands were tied together and soon their lips.

It was only a few seconds before the man slammed her against the wall and tossed her underwear in the middle of the hallway before taking her right on the spot.

With my eyes wide, I closed the door and pressed my back against it.

My heart raced.

Lexi's moans and screams made their way into my ears.

These were wild men.

As men slammed into the girls working in the house, I pressed the pillow over my ear as the sounds of their pleasure became unbearable. It was only a matter of time before the loud music was banging against the wall along with some of the girls whose rooms were close to mine.

With every second passing, my curiosity rose. I wanted to go outside and watch. But it was wrong, terribly wrong.

I tried suppressing my thoughts and hoped I'd fall asleep for some time. It was going to be a long night ahead and I wasn't sure what was waiting for me.

The lights in the room I was in were switched off but the walls were quite thin. I could hear Lexi in the other room, getting railed over and over again.

My eyes fluttered shut and I erased all my thoughts before catching up on my sleep. It wasn't the best time but it wasn't like I had anything else to do.

I dozed off quickly as I was tired and exhausted. The day had drained me along with the night before.
