RENEE'S POV
Inhale.
Exhale.
Inhale.
Exhale.
I was looking at my reflection in the floor length mirror, trying my best to overcome my soon-to-come anxiety attack. Bane was out already, handling business before this evening's event.
You got this. I repeated numerous chants to force myself to feel better, hoping to build a little more confidence. It worked...for about a minute.
I stopped chanting words of encouragement and welcomed the figure who was on the other side of the large wooden door.
The door creaked open and Liz walked in. She was holding a tray full of delectable items.
"I was unsure of what you liked." She placed the tray onto the night stand. "So I made you eggs, maple bacon, sausage, pancakes, blueberry muffins, a danish, orange juice, and a glass of milk."
"Wow, thank you. It looks amazing."
I walked over to the tray and picked up one of the mini blueberry muffins. It was delicious I must say.
"Mmm." I groaned.
"So glad you liked it." She cheered, a wide smile plastered across her face. "If you need anything else Luna, please dont hesitate to call."
She turned away to leave.
"Liz?"
"Yes Luna?" She turned to look at me. "Tonight. The ceremony. Would you able to give me some intel?"
"Intel?" "Yes, I mean, what would be expected of me? Should I be prepared to do something?"
"Oh honey." She wiped her hands on her apron. "Nervous jitters?"
"Well."
"Sit, sit." He motioned for me to sit on the bed. She sat beside me, taking my hand into her warm soft grasp.
"There is absolutely nothing for you to be nervous about. You are a beautiful girl. And our Luna. Hold your head up and show them you are the perfect choice to be their Luna."
My uneasy feeling was still bubbling in my gut but I believe she was right. I had to hold my head up. If I didn't find myself worthy, neither will they. Showing weakness will reflect on this pack and I can not bring this pack down.
"Thank you Liz." I smiled.
"No problem." She smiled. She stood and walked toward the door. "Luna."
"Yes?" "May I ask you something? No offense to you or the Alpha."
"Uh yeah sure."
"Alpha Bane, has he seemed...strange?"
"Strange?" "Like off. Deep in thought or spaced out occasionally. Or.. a little more...aggressive?"
"Aggressive?" I asked.
"Nothing. Never mind love, its nothing I guess. Im just going crazy. My motherly instincts just get concerned for them. They're like my babies you know?"
"Of course Liz."
"Well I will give you time to yourself." She smiled before she turned away to leave me.
"Wait. Liz?" "Yes Luna?"
"I was wonder could you do me a favor?" "Anything love." She answered cheerfully.
"Um Renee, my friend. She doesn't know whats going on here. I mean, with the Luna and Alpha thing and the house of...werewolves."
"Ohhh. No one has told her what we are?" She smiled.
"Dont worry love, I will make sure to spread the word of a unknowing human soul on the premises."
"Thank you." I was relieved that she was completely understanding of my small dilemma. "No problem." She turned away and left the room.
BANE'S POV.
"Come on, will you hurry up?" I nagged to Renees's slow ass.
"Look Bane, Im moving as fast as I can, wait a damn minute." She tugged and wrapped the tie around my neck, finishing it with a slight tug.
"Smart ass." I growled. "Whatever." She walked away.
Tonight's ceremony had me feeling a little uneasy. Not for me, since I was already used to the large gatherings and ceremony's that put me in the spotlight as Alpha. However my love was not used to that sort of scenery so I was not sure of how she would react to all of the uninvited attention.
"Mother and father are down in the vesta view, mingling." "And when did they return?" I asked Keira as I adjusted my tie in the small vanity mirror. "Couple of hours ago." "And they told you this?"
"Yup." She sat in the guest chair, smoothing out her long, sleek dress.
"And why wasn't I told by them?"
"Well big brother." She stood up. "You are acting like a dickhead."
I growled out from her unnecessary insult to me but all she did was roll her eyes and tell me to relax.
"I've asked them numerous times to call it off." "And you know mother. Its her way, or.....just her way."
"I know." I reached into my pocket and pulled my ringing cellphone. The call log showed me the number of the pack house. I answered it.
"Hello?"
"Alpha Bane, l'am sorry to disturb you as such a time." "No problem." I cleared. "What am I being called for?"
"Well a few moments ago. We had a....problem." The tone of voice he used when he said the word 'problem' did not sound promising to me.
"Problem, what kind of problem?"
"Visitors." "Visitor?" I asked.
"Yes."
"At our home?!" I asked. My outlash immediately sparked Keira's interested because she stopped and looked at me.
"Renee. Leave." "What? Why-"
"Leave..now!"
A unthreatening growled erupted from the back of her throat before she walked out, shutting the bedroom door. I walked over the closed window, hoping to distance myself from prying ears out in the hallways. I turned slightly and glanced at the bathroom door. Steam still flowed under the bathroom door along with the sound of her cellphone playing music so I knew Aniyah was still getting dressed.
"Visitor?" I mumbled in a hush tone. "Well, vampires have became a little more noticeable and closer to the territory." He added.
"Any attacks?!" "No. None. At this moment, their true intentions are unknown again."
I ran my fingers through my hair, only making it worse then it already was. I wanted to run back to the pack home but I believe it was better to stay here with my Luna. For her safety. Especially with their intentions being uncertain.
"Stay alert." I warned. "And make sure everyone is aware." "Yes Alpha."
"Increase territory patrol also. I want all eyes open."
"Of course Alpha." "Good."
