I don't want to die

RENEE'S POV
Time was passing.

The merciful man who was ordered to give me gave me a head start after I pleaded with my life. He eventually unlocked the chains and set me free but with a promise that there will be other men coming behind me once the knowledge would reach the Alpha and then, there was nothing anyone could do.

It was the early hours of morning when I tried to run around in unfamiliar grounds. Without going to the woods and getting captured by running wolves, I wandered around in the town, covering my face as I paved my way through the streets in hopes of finding a way out of here.

I didn't risk being seen until I stopped a random block in the town. The roads were fairly clear with only a few cars rushing by. The shops and restaurants were all closed as the sun was still reaching its peak.

Glancing over my shoulder, I hoped no one had followed me and no one did.

Blowing out a sigh of relief, I went behind one of the buildings and sat down to catch my breath in the empty alleyway. My wrists were sore with the chains and my throat dry. There was a pounding pain in my head, never leaving me.

My eyes closed momentarily as I pressed my back against the bricked walls.

It was endless-the streets. I had been walking for more than an hour yet I couldn't find a sign where it mentioned I was leaving town.

My eyes snapped open upon hearing the sounds of several engines roaring to my right. I glanced at the roads, finding them empty but the sounds were still there. Instantly, I knew I had been found.

But how?

I stood up from the ground and began running on the opposite direction. The alleyway ended a bit farther away with a large bricked wall in the middle. Just before it, there was a small staircase leading to the door. I quickly slipped inside upon hearing footsteps.

"How do you suppose she's here?" A man questioned, voice familiar.

I slid into the room and it was a garbage room, reeking of a disgusting smell. I held my breath while looking into the small window on the door.

It was him, the Alpha and two men by his side.

How was it possible? I barely rested for a moment and I was already found. How could they know where I was?

"There is no one here, Alpha. It's empty." The man said, dashing his head left and right.

The alpha glanced around, sniffing and moving ahead, closed to the end of the alleyway.

"I can smell her. She's here," He said, voice warmed with rage. "Come out wherever you are, little girl. I promise I'll spare your life."

How was it possible? I didn't have a scent. I hadn't shifted yet. I made sure not to shift so that I remain without a scent.

At the same time he spoke, I watched as his fingernails extended into claws. He intended on killing me-nothing more. A small gasp fled my throat and I stepped back from the door.

I couldn't go out there. No matter if I rotted inside the garbage room or not, I couldn't go out there.

"Search around the area. Find her and bring her to me, alive. And question anyone that is around, ask them if they have seen her." The Alpha turned to the man beside him and said.

The two men soon scurried out of the alleyway and began searching for me around. Thankfully, no one had seen me. I had yet to collide with one of their town people.

I waited till the Alpha left, but he didn't.

He stayed on his feet, looking ahead into nothing. I pressed my lips together while remaining inches away from the door. The smell of the garbage filled my nose but I held myself back from puking and creating a scene.

On the opposite side of the building, there was a door, on the same place-another garbage room.

The Alpha headed straight there and as soon as he stepped in, I stepped out and began running away.

Anywhere.

Save me, Moon God.

Just as I left the alleyway, I collided with the Alpha. My heart dropped. I gasped and forced myself to take a step back as he stood in front of me. His eyes were dark, midnight, holding no soul.

I swallowed hard and raised my hands in defence. How could it be possible? He was entirely in another room and now he was here suddenly.

"Where do you think you were running off to?" he asked, taking a step forward while something even more dangerous appeared in his eyes.

"Nowhere." I mumbled, giving my head a light shake.

"When I want a head, it means I want a head," he continued, his teeth pressed and jaw clenched hard. "But sometimes, I'd rather prefer a chase, just for myself." The corner of his mouth tugged into a smile as his gaze spread over me.

"Let me leave and I promise I won't come back. You don't have to kill me."

He grabbed my wrist, digging his fingers into my flesh as his attention diverted for a moment. When his eyes met with mine again, he said, "You're a rogue here. Why did run away from your pack?"

When I didn't respond, he pulled onto my wrist and dragged me out of the alleyway. Just across the next building, I found two cars parked over the pavement and the Alpha forcing me toward it.

I couldn't let him throw me in that dungeon again. Or worse kill me.

I pulled my wrist away from him and stepped away, but didn't flee-not yet.

"I don't want to die." I said, my voice as low as a whisper.
"That is for me to decide and for you to, well, I'm unsure what you'll be able to do once you're slaughtered open." He responded, his words cruel, showing no mercy.

"I've done nothing!" I retorted.
