Calm yourself down
RENEE'S POV
"I know you. You may not think so but I know you. Unlike most, I see pass the title or your past and I see who you are. Bane, Aaron, even A.J. We all see that. So the next time you question your placement here or-or feel as though you are beneath the rest, remember that title. Remember you have a line of people that would fight at your side. People are willing to risk their life for you just as you did."
Pushing from the tree, I landed just inches away from Bane as he stood up to meet my eyes. He held his head up, even despite the moment of vulnerability this conversation created in him. He was strong; however he still had a great heart that was weak at times due to emotion.
"Do you understand?"
After a needed moment to pull himself together, he responded.
"Yes."
"Good." I looked around for somewhere to go. "Now move. Haven't used the damn bathroom since we left. Keep alert."
I moved toward a secluded area right before he stopped me."Wait. Should we like..hug or something?"
His lips pinched together as he struggled to contain his laughter.
"Fuck off." I pushed passed him, listening as the volume of his laughter began to deplete the further I moved away from him.
I thought for a moment; almost unaware of the smile that creeped on to my face when I thought about how stupid yet comical this asshole really was.
Finished, I returned to the ground we were posted to find Bane sitting where I had I left him.
"Ah Brother, you have returned." He exhaled.
"You're going to milk that shit aren't you?"
"Hell yeah!"
For a moment, I began to regret actually telling him. However, a few days of hearing his pathetic 'brother' references would never conquer over his need to know.
"Shit."
"But...thank you." Through his humor, I could see how grateful he was.
"No. Thank you."
Sometimes, as a man, you have to admit to others when you are appreciative of what they have done for you and yours.
"Just never doubt-"
The world around me changed and it was easy to feel it. As I closed my eyes, my other senses picked up much more than others may have.
Their distance was still great however I knew they were here. I knew it was time.
"What?" Bane wondered; curious of what I picked.
"They are here."
They were swift.
Characters given great speed and agility that made it almost impossible to catch for most.
Sadly for them, I was not one of the most.
We had ceased them at the borders; stopping them right before they could enter my territory.
As usual, when traveling, there was always a small party of them. Sometimes the regular faces, other times there were some whom I had seen once and never saw again.
This time, only three traveled to meet with us.
There was a woman; the same woman who had been seen numerous times when she accompanied him. Star was her name. She stood behind her leader as her eyes examined the faces of the men who surrounded them.
"Bane?" She questioned; curiosity reflecting from her eyes.
"Hello Star."
"What is this?" She pointed toward the small group of men who stood by.
"I believe we need to talk."I motioned toward the man who stood by; his identity still withheld behind the hood of his attire.
"What the hell is this?"
There was another gentleman. This man was seen before however this seemed to be the first time heactually spoke.
His features seemed younger than the rest; confirming that his change might have taken place when he was in his mid or late twenties.
He was also much more aggressive. With the features on his face twisted up in distaste, I was almost sure this meeting would turn into a slaughter if he acted out in hasty way.
"Betrayal?" Assumptions spewed from his mouth. "You dare betray-"
"Ky." Finally, the man whom I had come to see had spoken. With his hand raised, he silenced his fellow member. "Calm yourself."
Ky began to calm down however it was not difficult to see the fury that still burned in his eyes.
His eyes. I frowned.
"Bane." The covenant leader had addressed me for the first time since we met them here. "What is this? A set up?"
"Call it reassurance." I corrected.
"Assurance? For?"
"Me. My people. My family."
I had met this man. Spoke to him. We had come up with numerous plans and actions, all while I showed him my identity while he remands hidden in shadows and behind a mask that left me wondering.
Who am I really talking to?
"I questioned myself numerous times." I explained. With his face hidden, I was only allowed to look into the faces of the other Vampires who stood at his side. "Wondering how I was able to trust...a stranger."
"Stranger? I have given information. I have offered you a hand in hopes that you can get your friend back and I would find mine."
"All while you hide behind a mask." I explained as I gestured toward his hood.
"My identity should not be a matter." I could hear the rise in his voice as he struggled to remain calm.
"But it is. I don't know you. I don't know anything about you. You could be a traitor. A monster. Hell, you can even be the man that took my Luna's mother. "
"Don't you ever insult me by suggesting I'm that monster." He grumbled; his voice venomous when he spoke. He was angered that I would even compare him to his old friend, his old companion, Lucifer.
"For all I know, you could be leading me to dead ends. Telling me to go left while you slithered your way to the right."
"Do not ever insult my father that way!" Ky stepped forward; his hands rolled to a fist when he looked at me. "We are not snakes. Never would we ever be considered as that. We have done nothing but helped."
