The ceremony

RENEE'S POV

The days ticked by slowly. After my unexpectedly intimate meeting with Bane and his Wolf in the forest a month and a half ago, he had stayed away. He still had his anger and hatred in his eyes whenever he looked at me but his Wolf, however, was different. Whenever Shannon and I went for hunting, I frequently felt the animal's eyes on us, his body hidden in the forest.

Whenever we fail to hunt any animal, we surprisingly find animals killed already for us at the top of the mountain where we usually rest from. I knew it was Alex, the wolf of Bane even though I have never caught him. He probably knew where we rest from.

Even though Bane totally didn't like me, my life wasn't that bad so far. The animals Alex catches for Shannon are so sweet and the meals , Jessica prepares for me make my day bright. These days my parents are barely home that's why I eat Jessica's food. I didn't know whatever they are up to but they usually come back late in the late.

Currently I was fine with their lateness. They always come back when i am already in bed which means I won't see their anger and hatred for me on their faces.

Just as I was eating the break fast, Jsssica interrupted my train of thought. "Your father told me to tell you that you stop by the packhouse today and pick some stuff that is needed here",

The PACKHOUSE?
I heard it in capital letters and my stomach trembled immediately.
Good lord! I didn't want to ho there. I didn't want to run into Bane.
"Not today moon goddess", I prayed inwardly.

"Alright I will go", I responded to Jessica with a fake smile on my face and stood up and took the plate filled with half of the food to the kitchen counter. My appetite for it the moment I heard the word pack house.

After some hours, I collected myself together and I walked to the pack house to pick up the stuff that my father ordered. Everything was well not until when I got the stuff.... just kitchen ingredients and turned to leave.
I wasn't much of a lucky person because I came face to face with a strawberry haired lady. She was in my way and didn't give me way. I didn't know her and it was my first time seeing her in the pack.

I spun on my heel, preparing to go and use another route, but she stopped me, her voice was high and whiny, "Renee... just the person I wanted to see for the first time"

Oh no, this couldn't be good.

I froze and turned around to face her.
Her eyes gleamed as she relished the thought of her next words.
In hindsight, it was stupid of me to wonder about the severity of her news. Of course, it was bad, worse than I could have ever imagined.

"Renee Spencer, I really didn't think my first time to meet you would be like this. People say you cursed but I don't believe it please help me pick up my dress from the pack's seamstress on your way back"
I heard her words and anger fueled in my body.
Was she fucking serious?!

"Please just pick it up for me. I don't want most of the pack members to see me before my mating ceremony with Bane",
All of the air seemed to be sucked out of my lungs. I couldn't breathe, reality was hitting me. This was the reason why my parents they always not around at home. They got Bane a lady from another pack. He is going to mate with her. He is going to mark her, and officially make her his.

And then a whole new level of devastation washed over me when I looked up to find Bane standing in one of the doorways of the pack house. He'd heard her words... ...and didn't deny them.

I thought I'd cried all of the tears I had left when my parents continously beat me but right now they flooded my eyes and streamed silently down my cheeks. I held Bane's gaze. My voice broke, "How could you?"

I realized in that moment of pain, that even though he'd given me no indication to hope, a considerable part of my heart had done just that. I'd desperately wished he would change his mind. I'd dreamed he would come to love me as much as I did him.

But he would never love me.

No one would.

It made sense...

Everyone in the pack knew me as a cursed wolf...a disgrace.

Bane gave no response. He just stood there, eyes dark and stormy, the muscles in his neck corded and tense.
The new strawberry haired lady got confused when she saw tears brim in my eyes but she didn't say anything.

I turned to leave. There was no reason for me to be there. I wasn't wanted. I walked quickly but I nearly stumbled into the only other person I dreaded seeing most, Bane's father.

He had his arms crossed over his chest, as he leaned casually against the wall, with a smirking grin on his face. He truly loved my pain.
"I see you've heard the good news. I'm certain you will show our future Luna all of the respect she deserves."

From my peripheral vision, Banel clenched his fist but said nothing. I hung my head, not looking Alpha in the eyes, and mumbled through my tears, "Yes, Alpha."
"We have a ceremony don't dare miss it", He growled and I nodded my head.

My heart was tight, pain clenching my chest, as I made my way back to the packhouse in the evening. Several Alphas and betas from neighboring packs were visiting this evening, but I wasn't excited to meet them. I only wanted to meet them, the last time when I didn't have a mate but later they cancelled their ceremony and decided to celebrate Aurora's death remembrance only.

Now all the Alphas were coming.
I was fine with it but my only concern was not breaking down into a puddle of tears, having to watch Bane walk with the new lady they got him to be his new luna.
To be honest I feel so betrayed.

I stepped through the main doors and was amazed to see the difference. Beautifully decorated, the house was full of fresh cut flowers and sparkly lights.
Guests soon filed in quickly, over a hundred wolves, many of which I didn't recognize.

After Bane's father making a preliminary introductions and gave a welcoming speech, he sat back down at the head table. High ranking wolves of our pack, Ravenwood, including Bane and the new strawberry haired lady, sat with him, as well as other Alphas and betas from other packs.
As the Beta's daughter, I also sat down.

As the night went on, I noticed the Alpha of Red moon pack making eye contact with me but I ignored him.
