Still want to conceive
BANE'S POV
I walked out of the café with a newfound determination. Alice was going to be under my roof, and I was going to make sure she did exactly what I needed. I didn’t care about her emotional baggage, her fears, or her hesitation. She signed the contract. She’d agreed to be my surrogate. Now, she’d get pregnant on my terms.
When I arrived home later that night, I was restless, my mind still racing. Antonio helped me with my coat before I dismissed him for the night. I poured myself a drink, watching the amber liquid swirl in the glass as I thought about Alice. The plan was simple: get her to move in, make her comfortable, and get her pregnant. But there was something deeper gnawing at me, something I couldn’t quite place. It had to be the way she looked at me sometimes almost as if she could see through my walls, see what I was really after. It was unsettling, but I pushed the thought away.
The sound of my phone vibrating on the table broke me from my thoughts. It was a message from Renee.
Can we talk?
I stared at the screen for a moment, debating whether or not to reply. Part of me wanted to ignore her, remind her that she was just here to do a job. But the other part of me, the one that felt a strange pull towards her, knew I needed to address this.
Instead of texting back, I called her.
The phone rang two times before she picked up. Her voice was soft, tentative, like she wasn't sure if she should have reached out in the first place.
"Hello" she spoke.
"My driver will be at your place tomorrow morning. Pack a bag", I spoke straight to the point.
Her response came almost immediately. "Why?"
I could almost hear her voice, the confusion, the hesitation. It didn’t matter. She’d understand soon enough.
"Because I need you here," I said, my tone unwavering. "You signed the contract, Alice. Now it's time to follow through."
There was a brief silence on the other end, and I could almost hear her processing my words, trying to figure out if she had the right to question them, or if she even should.
"You're... really serious about this, there wasn't anything like moving into your house in the contract" she spoke.
I let out a breath, resisting the urge to explain myself any further. There was no room for doubt in this arrangement, no space for second-guessing. "I don't make these kinds of decisions lightly," I said, my voice firm. "I need you to move in tomorrow. Pack a bag, and leave the rest to me. Everything else will fall into place."
There was a long pause, and just when I thought she might say something else, she finally spoke, her voice smaller than before. "Okay. I'll be ready."
I felt a strange knot form in my stomach as I hung up the phone. The decision had been made. She was coming. And everything that followed would be according to my plan.
But as I sat back in my chair, the weight of what I had just set in motion sinking in. Tomorrow would be the start of something. Something I couldn’t quite predict, but I was determined to control it.
As I finished my drink, I couldn’t help but wonder—was I ready for whatever this was going to become? Or was I already in too deep?
I shook my head, dismissing the thought. There was no room for doubt now. Alice was a means to an end, and I had to stay focused. I couldn't afford to let emotions cloud my judgment, no matter how she looked at me or how complicated things seemed to get.
The next morning, I would have her exactly where I wanted. And then, things would move forward—just as planned.
RENEE'S POV
After the call with Bane, I paced around the room like a maniac.
Did Bane just tell me to pack my bag and go live with him.
"What's up this time Renee", Lily Lily stood up from the couch and walked over to me, her brow furrowed with concern
"He wants me to fucking stay with him?" I shouted. " Oh my God, this is too much!"
"Why? What reason did he give you to go and stay with him?",
I ran a hand through my hair, trying to make sense of everything. What reason? He didn’t give me one. It was just... move in. Like it was no big deal. "He says it’s part of the contract. That it’s time to 'follow through' with the contract," I muttered, my voice shaky. "But I... I don’t get it. I signed up to be a surrogate. I thought I was just helping him, not... this."
"I understand I failed to get pregnant after the intrauterine insemination but.....", I was now murmuring to myself like a mad person. Yes he paid much money to carry his baby and I was fine with it but the biggest shock, however, was the addition of living with him.
Was this the other way he talked about?!
I stopped pacing, the reality of the situation hitting me like a wave. Lily was speechless just staring at me.
We both knew it that I needed the money for my mother's hospital bills and I couldn't back out right now.
My mother's health was deteriorating, and every penny I earned mattered.
Finally, Lily sighed, breaking the silence. "Alice, I get it but we really need the money. Go to his house tomorrow and see what he says. If it doesn't favour you then maybe you will terminate the contract and you go back to being a stripper", She spoke the word stripper in a low voice because she knew how I hated it.
I hated that part of my past, and now being a surrogate was the only solution I had.
"Pack your bag and go, you’ll be okay," Lily said softly, her hand on my shoulder. "You’re stronger than you think."
I wasn’t sure about that, but I had no other choice. I had to do this, for my mom, for my future. Tomorrow, I’d go to Ethan’s house. And maybe, just maybe, I’d figure out exactly what it was I had gotten myself into.
