Want his attention

It was the push that I needed. The push that told me to move. I increased my speed again. The belt began to pull against the rubber on the bottom of my Nike.

I could feel the muscles in my body tightening, the blood in my body flowing, my heart pumping. Inhale, exhale. Deep and steady breaths kept my body pushing. Speed. Strength. My legs were burning however I did not care. I wanted nothing more than to keep pushing. I saw nothing. I felt and thought about nothing but running.

Was it the distraction I needed?
Probably. I did not think about calling her phone. I did not think about Jason. I did not think about Vampires. I did not think about werewolves. All I could think about was running, pushing myself to the edge.

An arm reached over to my treadmill and pulled the emergency stop plug. It dangled from the machine as the belt began to slow, decreasing my run to a slow walk. "What the hell?" I pulled my headphones off.

"What the hell are you doing? Slow your ass down." "Im running. Isn't that why you brought me here?"
"I brought you here to relax, not to pop a blood vessel because you want to overwork yourself. I'm not sitting in no hospital because you are crazy."

"I'm fine." I jammed the plug back into its hold. "No. Look at you, your nostrils are all flared. Relax." "Renee." She gave a warning glare. "Just slow your ass down."
I placed my hand over my chest. My heart was like a beating drum beneath my hand. It was the feeling I got from running, the enjoyment of the push. It made me forget. It make me forget about what was going on at home.

"Renee?" She pushed my arm. "Fool at one o'clock." It was her warning to me that someone was approaching. Who else but him. He was wearing a pair of Nike sweat pants and a compression shirt. He seemed to be dressed to play his part of the co-owner of the gym.

He spoke to a few of his coworkers and guest, shaking hands and smiling until he laid eyes on Renee and me. He seemed to have dismissed himself from others before he made his way over to our treadmills. "Ladies." He had a cheesy grin on his face. "So how is your first day?"

"Its great. However, a complementary red velvet cake protein shake would make my first day very welcoming." Jess was pushing her luck. Strangely, she seem to be winning. Bane laughed. Instead of denying her request, he nodded before he turned to me.

"Renee?" I felt all the pressure on me now. "Oreo protein shake sounds good to me." I joined in. "I see you ladies are really taking this first day seriously." He toyed. "I will be back with your shakes."
He turned off, leaving me time to eye Jess.

"What?" "Really?" "I mean, we mind as well get the full perks here. Have you ever tried to ask Maya to make you a shake? She nearly snapped my neck when I asked her for water after a workout session."

"I just want to workout without drawing....attention." I decreased the level of my machine to a slow walk.

"His attention?" Jess corrected. "I know you do not want to get the boy killed. I promise we will not but we can still take advantage of this.""I guess you are going to burn this out aren't you?"

"Yup."Renee returned with our shakes. She had her red velvet cake protein shake with whipped cream and cake crumbles on top and I had a Oreo shake with whipped cream and a cookie stuck in the whipped cream.

"Your orders." He handed them to us.."Owner. Bell boy. Delivery guy." Renee sipped. "What else can you do?"
"I kiss very well." My straw stuck between my lips, I felt my Oreo slip down my wind pipe. I began choking, Oreo cream nearly slipped out of my nostrils. I was coughing to clear my airways as Jess patted my back to help me.

"Are you okay?" I signalled to Carl that I was fine as I stepped off of the treadmill. "It was a joke." Renee followed behind me.

"Are you sure you are okay?" Carl asked again.
"Yes." I breathed out. It was an embarrassing moment, especially when a numerous amount of eyes glanced at me. Why wouldn't they? I was the only one in here choking.

"Okay, well I have a few things to do. I'll catch you girls later?"

"Sure." Jess rubbed my back as if I was her child. "Renee." She handed me my towel so I could wipe my mouth.
"Yes."

"You can never say I have never did anything for you."
I kicked out of my shoes before I shoved my bag into the closet. I knew the stench of the gym on the bag would leave a nasty taste in Bane's mouth.

I quickly showered off before I put on a change of clothing. My workout clothes in hand, I shoved them into one of the hampers for later wash.

As I stood up straight, I could feel today's workout making it self-known. Abs. Glutes. Arms. Legs. I did not look forward to the morning feeling.

As I slipped on my slippers, the bedroom door opened up. I did not turn. My way of ignoring him. I know I owed him a lot but I just needed one more favor from him that he did not give me.

His disapproval.

Yes, for the first time I actually wanted his disapproval in regards to going to the gym. The one time I wanted him to put his foot down, he actually smiles and practically says 'go ahead'.

He was an asshole.
His arms slipped around my waist slowly, leaving behind the rough chill bumps beneath my shirt. I turned my neck to avoid him. With passion, he kissed it.

This man was my asshole. "So?" "So?" I responded.
"The gym?" When he asked, I knew those sweet kisses of temptation was nothing more than a decoy to get some answers.
