His friends

RENEE'S POV

I looked to them. High-strung feeling burning in my gut. The closer we came to them, the more fearful I became. They were not ordinary, they are what I would consider royalty here.

Elegance, power, authority, and respect oozed from them as they stood in front of us. Their faces plain, emotionless of my coming. My grip on Bane tightened the closer we got.

"Mother." He greeted his mother. A short, beautiful woman. A woman who obviously deceived the aging process. Long black hair with a strip of grey mixed in. Green eyes immediately reminded me of Bane's.

"Father." Bane's voice went from loving to power. Strength in his voice as he spoke to his father. For some reason, his father sent a jolt of fear up my bones. Tall, built man. Authority radiated off of him and sent a chill across my flesh when he looked down at me.

"Bane." His mother's eyes left him and looked toward me. Can she sense my fear? She stepped forward and examined me intensely before a small genuine smile crossed her lips.

"Mrs. Luna Hall." I lowered my head in respect for her. "Mr. Alpha Hall." I lowered my head to him to avoid the strict glare he had on me.

A moment of silence passed before a wave of laughter erupted from his mother, followed by a few chuckles from the crowd. What? I looked up at Bane for confirmation but he was too busy hiding the laugh he wanted to release as well.

"Oh darling." She waved Bane away, forcing him to detach from me, leaving a cold, alone feeling in me. Soon, it was replaced with a warm, stern arm of his mother. "Please call me Athea. I'am no longer Luna darling."

"Oh. My apologies."
"No honey, no need to apologize." She added.

Pressure on me was still bubbling up inside me. I was still fighting urgency to run and hide from the large crowd. Mrs. Athea must have noticed my uneasy feeling.

"Return to what you were doing." She spoke without even raising her voice. Without a second thought, everyone turned away and continued on with the festivities as if I did not exist.

"I must say, it seemed as though I would never meet you." "Im sorry it took so long."
"Lets just be happy it has happened." She smiled. "Now, lets get you acquainted with the others, shall we?"

BANE'S POV
I could sense how nervous she was as she walked away with my mother. I know my mother will help calm her but her need for my presence will always be with her.

"Bane?" The stern familiarity of my father's voice called to me.
"Father."
"How have you been?" "Fine, now that I have her by my side." Even though I was against this function, I felt joyous to see her officially socialize with my kind outside of the usual.

"No." I looked at him. "How are you?"
"What is this about?" My voice grew darker. I was not up for his speeches and petty fake concerns for my wellbeing. "I just want to make sure this pack is safe-"

"Safe from what? Threats, outsiders...or me?"
He frowned before he turned away. We could not go in to full detail of our disagreement, especially at a time such as this.

"Bane..-"
"Drop it." I did not want to hear a lecture regarding my past and how it may effect my future and my ability to lead this pack. I have control over this pack and myself so I did not need to hear it.

I walked away, leaving my father alone for the moment as I recollected my thoughts.

RENEE'S POV
I have met, greeted, and shaken hands with numerous pack leaders in this ballroom and I highly doubted that I was even close to finishing.
"This is Lilian and Alice Blue." Athea introduced me to the Alpha and Luna of the White Snow pack. I shook their hands and graciously thanked them for coming all this way to attend.

"We are more then happy to be here." Lilian smiled and Alice happily agreed with her.
"Thank you." Athea smiled before she turned to me. Shaw we continue on?" We walked through the dense crowd of guest until

we came to another well known couple and leaders. They clung to each other like glue, love and passion obviously dancing around them.
"This one is different." Athea said as we walked toward them. "She is neither his mate or Luna exactly."

"Huh? They seem as though they are."
"Love is a powerful thing Renee." Athea stated as we approached them. "Ah thank you for coming."

"Athea." Alpha lowered his head slightly before he looked to me. "Luna Renee."
He stood straight up, showing off his tall physique and frame as power radiated off of him. I was not one to easily spot an Alpha but with him, it was easily noticeable.

"Renee, this Amira Patterson and Xavier Wheeler. The leaders of the Black Mist pack." I lowered my head and thanked them for coming to share this with us.
"Our pleasure." Amira smiled.

"Amira." Athea continued. "I must express my condolences to you and your mother for your loss. If there is anything you two may need from me, please ask."

"Thank you, thank you so much Athea." A hint of hurt was hidden behind a practiced smile.

"And congratulation." Athea added.

Amira placed her hand on her flat belly and smiled, an actual genuine smile this time as Xavier looked down at her, obviously proud of their expecting. I admired their compassion.

Whoever said they had to be mates to be in love is a fucking liar I say. "Princess?" I looked up to see Jason right beside me.
"Bane." I responded. He smiled before he turned his attention toward our current guest.

"Xavier?" He shook his hand. "Amira." He smiled and lowered his head in respect. Xavier didn't seem so joyous about that? Why?
"Mother. May I steal her from you?" "What? No, we are not finished-"
"Mother." "Fine, fine." She rolled her eyes. "Steal her from me then."

"Thank you."

He took my hand and guided me over to the dance floor. People spread out to give us space as light music began to play. He placed his hands on to my waist as I placed my hands on his broad shoulders.
