Triumphant Entrance
**Kael**
After watching the video of Bianchi kissing Sarah on TV, it seemed like he was everywhere I went. As I always followed motorsport news due to my significant investments in the sector, especially in the category represented by Bianchi, the video playing in front of me ate away at my insides. Knowing that Sarah was no longer part of my life and her telling me not to bother with what she was doing or not doing at the moment only made things worse.**
“You look terrible, Kael," Ryan commented as he entered my office.
"And so, any news about the suspects in the baby theft case?" I asked, seeing him take a seat across from me.
Ryan didn't let himself be fooled and contradicted me, saying, "There's no use pretending that everything is fine, Kael. I know perfectly well that you're not sleeping well and how difficult it is to stick to your determination to remove Sarah from your life."
"I don't want to talk about it," I tried to change the subject. "All the paperwork for the investment in the racing team is already prepared, and a big event is being organized in London."
Ryan was focused on finding clues that could reveal the truth behind the baby theft in Guilhermina Graham's belongings, and I had no choice but to relieve him of his duties as my assistant.
"I don't plan to attend, and I would like you to go to my place to represent me."
I felt very uncomfortable with the idea of seeing Sarah in London, and I realized that it was best to avoid any contact because I was still immersed in conflicting feelings.
"I'm sorry, Kael," Ryan declined. "I managed to schedule a meeting with the nun in charge of the orphanage where Maira was taken in on Saturday morning. There's no way I can miss that meeting after all the difficulty I had in arranging this visit to the institution."
I understood my brother's refusal to replace me on such an occasion, but it put me in a delicate situation because I wasn't prepared to see Sarah with another person, especially after this same man had replaced her with her sister without hesitation just a few days ago.
But the situation didn't change until the weekend, so I had to board another flight to London, where the unveiling party for the new owner of Cecati Racing Team would take place. The whole world would know about the event, which we had managed to keep secret until the day of the party. Despite the various speculations about my recent visit to London, my meetings with executives from different companies and multinationals had prevented the media from confirming exactly the type of business I was closing in the city.
After arriving in London, I stayed in the hotel until the event's scheduled time, avoiding any newspapers that might bring news about Bianchi and Sarah because I didn't want to disturb myself any further. I fervently wished that Sarah wouldn't attend the party, knowing her as I did, I believed she wouldn't. After all, she was upset about my disappearance and days without news, and the proof of that was that she had returned to the guy who had replaced her with her sister.
I traveled with a small team and my newest assistant, Maira, which was a suggestion from my mother. Since Maira was still hurt by her adoptive parents and had decided not to accompany Ryan to Houston, my mom believed this would be the ideal solution.
"Why don't you invite Maira to join you on the trip to London?" she had suggested during breakfast. "I'd love to go to the orphanage with Ryan, but I also don't want to leave her alone in Seattle."
While we waited for Maira to come down, my mother expressed concern that she wasn't sleeping well and just staying at the mansion doing nothing. I tried to sidestep the request, saying she probably wouldn't accept the invitation, even though I liked her because she was my sister.
My mother offered to talk to Maira and explain the situation. I eventually agreed. I needed a personal assistant, and I had already noticed that Maira was a very sensible and intelligent person.
"It will be just temporary, dear," my mom added. "Only until Ryan decides what he'll do with his life from now on."
My mother didn't say it explicitly, but she implied that Maira also needed to make some decisions, even if not stated clearly.
To my dismay, Maira accepted the responsibility, and now we were both in London, accompanied by my CFO at Anglo-X and my lawyer. When everyone was ready, we met in the hotel lobby and headed to the event venue.
"I'm so nervous, Kael," she confessed with a shy smile. "I've never been a part of something so grand before."
We had just arrived at the event entrance, and I couldn't disagree with her. The event was truly grand, with several reporters at the entrance of the ballroom. Her reaction was understandable, given the festive and bustling atmosphere.
"Come on, no need to be nervous," I said to my sister, holding her hand as we got out of the limousine.
I hadn't even realized that people still didn't know that Maira was my sister, and I didn't care about it until we entered the main door of the ballroom. I looked around at the extremely elegant, tastefully decorated environment. Even if I denied it to myself, the person I was looking for wasn't among the guests.
"How beautiful everything is, Kael!" Maira kept repeating, increasingly amazed.
"Just wait to see the juggling show the organization has prepared," I replied, knowing that Maira liked things related to the circus atmosphere, and she would enjoy the performance.
"I'm so happy you brought me here!" She exclaimed enthusiastically, clapping her hands.
I smiled, finding her reaction amusing, but soon my smile faded. At that moment, Sarah walked in through the main door, looking stunning in a long red dress with a sheer front that extended from the neckline to the waist. Her hair seemed different, lighter, and shinier. Sarah looked perfect. And to my complete dismay, she wasn't alone; she was walking hand in hand with Enrico Bianchi.
My wife, in the arms of another man.
The impact of that sight was overwhelming, and the weight of regret descended upon me instantly. While struggling with my thoughts and emotions, my attention was drawn back to Maira, who was in awe of the event. I tried to focus on her joy, but the image of Sarah and Enrico together continued to haunt me.
Amidst all that internal turmoil, Maira noticed my expression change and asked with concern, "What's wrong, Kael?"
"Let's just say I've just realized I've made a terrible mistake."
Despite the questioning look in Maira's eyes, some executives approached us at that moment, and all attention had to be redirected to the businessmen. Meanwhile, conflicting feelings overwhelmed me, mixing anger, sadness, and hope.
As minutes passed, I kept looking in Sarah's direction, her genuine smile and radiant beauty. The growing desire to turn back time, undo the misunderstanding, and redeem myself for my lack of trust in the woman I love. Something inside me screamed that Sarah could never have done what Rachel had told us.
What to do now? How to face Sarah and explain my unjustified distance? My mind was filled with unanswered questions. One thing was certain, though. I needed to confront the truth and make amends for my misguided behavior.
I couldn't hold back any longer, and after the presentation to the audience, where I spoke about the acquisition of Cecati, the certainty that Sarah could never lie or deceive was weighing me down. Worse yet, she could never hide such a grave secret as the theft of two innocent babies.
I looked at Maira, my emotions running high, and said, "I need to talk to Sarah. Now."
The weight of my regret was difficult to bear, but I was determined to clarify everything and, perhaps, rebuild the trust that had been broken between us. She needed to know the whole truth.
