Perfect Moment

I watched the group leaving the waiting room with a casual expression, though inwardly my mind was far from tranquil. I was, however, pleased to finally have a clear path ahead of me, opening up a range of possibilities that would allow me to approach certain people and persuade them to help me execute my plan. I was certain that money would solve everything.

Hours later, I was genuinely surprised at how easily I managed to accomplish what I had in mind. A discreet conversation with a few people I already knew was all it took, and soon they were sorting out the matter, facilitating the realization of my desires.

My objective was to get close to Rachel to the point where I would not only gain her trust but also her gratitude so that she would feel indebted to me and fulfill what I expected of her. Although no one knew, the truth was that I was the uncle of the two twin sisters, a bastard brother of Guilhermina. Even though she didn't want society to uncover this dirty secret of her beloved father, she always made sure I had the best of everything, and in return, I did what she expected of me.

At just eighteen years old, I was an accomplice in her sinister plan to kidnap Mary Graham's babies and give them to people living as far away from Seattle as possible. Furthermore, I carried out every task she ordered me to sabotage the relationship between the man she loved and the woman he truly loved. In the end, she managed to marry Patrick Mitchell, but her happiness alongside him was never genuine.

The twin daughters only distanced her further from Patrick, as the love he could dedicate to his wife was directed towards the daughters, who also adored him. A few years later, Patrick resumed his relationship with Mary, making her his mistress. Guilhermina had to remain silent about her husband's extramarital affair, aware that pressuring him would only push him away for good.

What my sister did not foresee was her premature death during a botched cosmetic procedure, leaving many matters unresolved, including her vast personal fortune, of which Patrick was unaware.

This attitude of Guilhermina's was her way of getting back at all of Patrick's betrayals and the unrequited love she felt for him. However, she never documented her wish for her daughters to inherit everything she had, and never drafted an official will, as she didn't accept her age and never imagined she would die so suddenly.

This opened up the opportunity for me to exploit her incredulity and secretly use her fortune. After all, I knew her passwords and always took care of her finances, although she never granted me full powers to do so. Everything was going well until Patrick found out about the assets left by his late wife and came to confront me, claiming that his daughters were entitled to these assets.

It was at this moment that I had to take measures to push him out of my way. Just a few weeks ago, when I lost access to some transactions due to outdated ownership data, I realized that if I could get close to one of my nieces and fully and definitively gain her trust, I could obtain a power of attorney from her.

This strategy seemed to be the safest and legally valid way to ensure the acquisition of everything that rightfully belonged to Guilhermina's daughters, although they were unaware of this reality and I had no intention of revealing it. All of Guilhermina's fortune, originally inherited from our father, would be directed to me, which I considered fair since I was her only brother.

I didn't feel guilty about Patrick Mitchell dissipating his fortune due to his gambling addiction and even losing his shares in the company due to incompetence. I continued to hold the position of chief financial officer and maintain a third of the company under my control, something few knew, as Guilhermina's shares were never publicly disclosed. Not even her husband knew the true identity of the owner, as I always acted through a representative on her behalf, Dr. Gonçalves, a former Mitchell family lawyer and my most loyal accomplice.

Now, my next step was to get closer and closer to Rachel. I planned to put her in a situation of extreme emotional fragility so that she would need a friendly shoulder and someone who supported her unconditionally. I was determined to be that person.

Despite the noticeable age difference between us, with me being forty-three and she only twenty-two, I knew Rachel well enough to understand that she wasn't satisfied with the modest life she had been living since Patrick's death. I knew that anyone who offered financial advantages would be welcomed into her life, and I was willing to play that role.

A situation that worked in my favor was the fact that the alleged father of Rachel's babies refused to acknowledge paternity. This made Rachel an even more accessible target for me, as being pregnant and "alone" is a circumstance that tends to emotionally shake anyone, and Rachel would be no exception. I was sure of that.

When Rachel underwent the ultrasound examination the next day and received the information that she had lost one of her babies, something I had ensured they would tell her during the examination, she would be extremely vulnerable and sad. I intended to take advantage of this moment to get even closer to her, offering both financial and emotional support.

If Rachel hadn't lost one of the babies, as I had paid for them to tell her, I would have to come up with a solution. However, that would take months, and many events could occur in the meantime, including a marriage with a prenuptial agreement that covered universal community property between us. At least, I intended to work hard towards that goal. I wouldn't miss this wonderful opportunity.
