Unthinkable Outcome

I could never have anticipated that the night would end this way, with Sarah in an operating room, and all of us waiting for news in a bland hospital waiting room. The most that had crossed my mind was that she would make amends with Graham, and I would be sidelined without my fake girlfriend and subjected to jokes from my teammate, Bruno Garcia.
Either way, I had decided it was best to keep an eye on the situation, after all, I genuinely liked Sarah. She had become a good friend, and I was willing to help her if her conversation with Graham didn't have the outcome she hoped for. I never imagined it would end like this.
After hours of uncertainty waiting in the hospital waiting room, a doctor finally came to where we were, bringing news about my friend's current health condition. However, the news was not encouraging.
"When will she wake up?" Kael asked anxiously.
"We cannot determine with precision how long it will take to fully withdraw the sedation, sir," the doctor explained, though he seemed calm, I noticed a certain discomfort in his expression, which left me apprehensive. "Miss Mitchell suffered a compression of the spinal cord, and we need to wait to assess her response after the surgery to decompress the area. Only then can we better understand her clinical condition."
"Is this spinal cord compression related to her neck, doctor?" I asked, already fearing the answer.
"I'm sorry to inform you that it is. There is a direct relationship between the spinal cord and the cervical spine," the doctor confirmed my suspicions. "This compression can even affect the transmission of nerve impulses to the lower limbs."
"Does this mean Sarah may lose the ability to walk? Is that what you're telling us?" Kael's anguish became more evident.
"Unfortunately, there is a considerable possibility that Miss Mitchell may face a condition of paraplegia."
The impact of the news left everyone in the room in shock. Kael slumped into a chair, Maira and Hillary, who were also with us in the waiting room, burst into tears, and I felt lost, without words or reasoning.
I notice the doctor is still standing, perhaps waiting for more questions about Sarah's condition. However, none of us are in a state to think clearly after the preliminary diagnosis.
"Any other questions I can clarify at this time?" the doctor offered.
"Not at the moment, doctor," I tried to maintain control, feeling the need to be the strong person at that moment, as it was clear that Kael wasn't capable. "Once we can process this news, we'll get in touch with you."
The doctor nodded discreetly, realizing that everyone was visibly shaken. I looked around, seeking to divert my attention from the pain settling in my chest as I watched everyone's reactions.
Fiori embraced Hillary, allowing her to cry on his shoulder, while Maira hugged Kael, offering admirable support to her newly discovered brother, even amid her distress.
Although my heart was tied to Rachel, becoming aware that she had been complicit in such a dark secret and had participated in such cruelty committed by her mother led me to question whether her love extended to anyone beyond herself and her interests. I began to seriously consider whether it was prudent to continue as things were.
I decided to resume the course of my life as it was before I met her, dedicating myself intensely to my work and striving to achieve my goals and excel even more in the world of motorsports, where I competed with passion and determination.
My ambition had always been to be recognized as the best in the global automotive scene, and now I was determined to redirect my focus back to that goal. Rachel and all the turmoil she brought into my life would be left behind. I realized it wasn't worth trying to change someone with such a questionable character as hers.
My support for Sarah would intensify even more, understanding that she would face a long and challenging journey of recovery. I would hope that the trauma to her spine wouldn't leave her unable to walk, but even if it did, I would be by her side with all my support.
Sarah was facing a severe punishment from life, undeserving of the tragedy that had befallen her, while Rachel completely ignored the multiple calls from Maira and Hillary, attempting to inform her about her twin sister's situation. My priority now was Sarah's well-being and recovery, someone who had shown herself to be genuine and deserving of all my respect and support.

Days after the accident that affected Sarah, she was still under the influence of medications. As we anxiously awaited improvements in her health, our distress only grew.
Although she was in stable condition, there was uncertainty surrounding the precise diagnosis of the spinal cord injury and the possibility of her walking again. This uncertainty would only be dispelled when Sarah emerged from the induced coma.
A week had already passed, but I chose to stay in London. I didn't want to return to Seattle without Sarah, but her transfer to the United States had not been authorized. This was due not only to health issues but also because there were no blood relatives to assume responsibility.
Rachel, despite our numerous attempts, was not responding to our contacts. After a brief investigation, I discovered she was closer than we had imagined, in Monaco, Europe. She seemed to be enjoying the money I had transferred to her as payment for her assistance in the investigation involving our twin siblings.
Maira and Ryan, although also Sarah's siblings, lacked documentation to prove this fact. This prevented them from interfering in her treatment. And I had no intention of returning home without Sarah. In the meantime, Ryan took on my commitments.
The truth is, I couldn't focus on business matters. The image of Sarah's accident haunted me constantly, along with a feeling of guilt for what had happened. To avoid feeling even worse, I spent most of my time at the hospital, eagerly awaiting news.
This long-awaited moment came nine days after the accident. On that day, I was resting at the hotel after another sleepless night. Immediately, I was taken to the hospital to see Sarah in person, with my own eyes.
"She doesn't want to see you," I'm informed by Maira.
"It can't be that she won't let me in," I insisted. "I understand she was shocked by the whole story, but you're with her in the room, and I thought everything was resolved between you."
"You're right about that. Our issues were resolved. However, Sarah doesn't even want to mention your name, Kael."
