Getting in on the act

**Kael**

I heard light and familiar knocks on the door, so I granted permission for the person to enter. I swiveled my chair to face the office entrance, ready to find out the reason for the visit. I was taken by surprise to see that the "visitor" was Rachel, but I shouldn't have been, after all. Rachel probably saw me at the nightclub, and now she has some pieces of the puzzle behind recent events.
"I see you didn't expect my visit," she said, her tone as arrogant as I always imagined it would be, even without ever having spoken to the girl personally.
"Have a seat," I indicated the chair in front of my desk and waited for her to sit first before positioning myself in my CEO chair.
"Thank you for the courteous gesture," her tone was full of sarcasm, and that only increased the antipathy I already felt towards her. "I imagined you would send your security to throw me out of here as soon as you realized the visitor was me."
"I briefly considered that possibility, but as you pointed out, I was caught totally off guard," I confessed with undisguised irony. "You wielded a very powerful weapon, catching the enemy by surprise."
"So, should I conclude that we are enemies?"
"Was there still any doubt about that?"
"No," she said with a rather friendly smile as if we were talking about the weather.
"I'm pleased to have made things clear enough for you. If you hadn't understood yet, I would genuinely believe I overestimated you."
"Well then... Now that everything is clear, should I explain the reason that brought me straight into the clutches of my arch-enemy?"
"So much drama, Rachel!" I used plenty of sarcasm as I said that, leaning my elbow on the table and resting my chin on my hand. "But still, I must admit I'm quite curious to know what brought Patrick Mitchell's spoiled girl to my domain."
Looking at Rachel now, for the first time truly face to face with her, I scolded myself for not noticing the deception she and Sarah managed to pull off on the day of the auction. The difference in behavior between the two sisters was striking.
While Sarah seemed most of the time like a timid and even fearful person, not to mention her innocent face, seemingly unaware of the world and the people around her, Rachel appeared confident and self-assured to the extreme, bordering, of course, on arrogance.
At that moment, I truly felt guilty for proceeding with the consummation of the sexual act because it was evident that the girl with me could not, under any circumstances, be the same Rachel who didn't bow down to anyone and dared to come to my office and confront me face to face.
"I found out that the person who won me in the auction is the same one who bought my father's company, and coincidentally, he is also the son of the woman with whom my father had an extramarital affair for years."
"Just coincidences, as you pointed out yourself."
"I might have believed that possibility if it weren't for the fact that you refused to pay my two million dollars."
Her tone slightly increased in volume as she mentioned the "lost" dollars, and I almost couldn't maintain the facade of indifference I had been displaying until that moment.
"Your dollars?" I asked with evident sarcasm.
"Mine and my sister's," she explained. "We had planned to pay off the loan shark and split the remaining amount between us. It's only fair, considering I was the one who won the bid, and she was the one who slept with you."
"So, you're telling me that Sarah sold herself without further objections, just as you would have done if you still had some virginity left to bargain with?" I questioned, no longer displaying as much composure as before.
"Of course," Rachel confirmed. "Two million dollars is a lot of money for someone who has none, don't you agree?"

*******

All the composure I was trying to maintain vanished as Rachel made it clear that Sarah wasn't just a pawn in the game but an active and aware participant. I felt betrayed because until then, I believed Sarah had agreed to replace her sister out of fear that something bad would happen to Rachel if she didn't fulfill the agreement with the loan shark.
It had never crossed my mind that Sarah was doing all of this purely for money. This revelation contradicted the image I had of her entirely. However, upon objective reflection, I realized it was easier to be detached from material possessions when one had abundance and lacked nothing. Sarah only showed her true colors when confronted with life's difficulties. Now, it was evident that she was as opportunistic as Rachel herself.
"If you prefer to think that way, I won't be the one to sermonize about principles," I responded.
"Women are selling their bodies for far less. And what's the problem with that?" she raised the question, her nose in the air and arrogance at its peak. "We're all free to do as we please."
I stood up from my chair; it was impossible to remain seated and listen to Rachel talk about that subject. I admitted that the issue wasn't about selling her body or anything of the sort.
"Let's get straight to the point, Rachel. What do you want?"
She looked me directly in the eye, and her eyes seemed to light up upon hearing my question.
"I'll do anything you want. Anything!" she said, also getting up from her seat.
The words I had waited for a long time to hear had just been spoken, yet I no longer felt as triumphant.
"And in return, what do you desire?" It was what she expected me to say, and I granted her that last pleasure.
"I want the two million in my account."
