Shocking

Ryan appeared shocked by the harassment he was enduring from Rachel, and at that moment, I feared he might faint right there.
Rachel briefly glanced at me, but then shifted her attention back to what appeared to be her "brother."
"So, Ryan?" I insisted in the face of his silence. "What does it mean that you're Rachel's brother?"
Ryan ran his hand through his hair several times, leaving it even more disheveled.
"I'm your brother, the child of Patrick and Mary," he revealed, sighing resignedly.
"So, you're the missing twin?" I affirmed out loud, without any doubt about that information.
My now-brother walked over to one of the sofas and sat down, clearly dejected. I followed suit because I also didn't feel like standing after receiving this powerful bombshell of news.
My assistant is my long-lost brother. This revelation was yet another surprise.
"It's the only possibility that makes sense, but I don't have all the answers," he agreed, lacking enthusiasm.
"And all this time you were among us and didn't tell the truth. Why?" Rachel asked, genuinely indignant.
"I don't think I owe you any explanation, girl," he retorted, not directly answering the question and sporting an unfriendly expression.
It was evident that the siblings were not getting along, but that wouldn't be a problem, especially considering Rachel's dishonest nature.
"Whether you like it or not, Rachel is your sister, and she has important information that can help clarify some murky points of your history," I intervened, trying to be reasonable. "Unless you already know everything about your adoption, unlike Maira, who didn't even know that she was adopted until our mother contacted her."
Ryan looked at Rachel with evident irritation after my words but remained silent, leaning on the sofa's backrest, closing his eyes, and appearing deep in thought.
After discovering the whereabouts of one of her twin children, Mom had decided to personally talk to Maira because she couldn't bear the anxiety of waiting and didn't want to reveal something so important over the phone.
Maira lived a peaceful life in Houston, alongside her adoptive parents, residing in the outskirts of the city and working as an early childhood educator. However, she didn't hesitate to accompany my mother to Seattle to learn more about her unknown past.
Maira's adoptive parents couldn't provide much information since they found her in an orphanage when they decided to adopt her. This indicated that the person who received money from Rachel's mother to take the child away actually placed her in an orphanage and kept the money, not acting as a humble and kind-hearted person, as Rachel claimed her mother had described those who ended up with the stolen babies.
However, the couple who adopted Maira after finding her in the orphanage chose not to disclose the truth about her adoption to her, aiming to prevent her from feeling less loved simply because she wasn't their biological child.
In my opinion, Maira's parents made a significant mistake by hiding this information, which ultimately caused problems in the family, as Maira was upset that they had kept such an important aspect of her past a secret.
This was one of the reasons that led her to immediately come with our mother, without second thoughts, even if it could hurt the feelings of those who had raised her so well over the years.
"The revelation that I was adopted only reached me when my mother was about to pass away. Unfortunately, I have almost no information that could help me understand what happened."
Things seem to become even more complicated after hearing what Ryan had to say. Considering that Rachel's main goal was to extort as much money as possible from me, and she never tried to hide that fact, I assume I'll have to invest a lot of time dealing with Rachel and the investigators. She will surely do everything to hinder the investigation rather than assist.
Now, all I can do is try to unravel the gaps in the sad story of my twin siblings without relying too much on the cooperation of those who could help but refuse to do so.

After reflecting deeply on what Enrico told me, I realized that he was right, and I had been foolishly letting myself be carried away for far too long. However, this didn't mean I needed to swing from one extreme to another, and just because some people had hurt me, I shouldn't retaliate in the same way.
I also realized that I didn't need to desperately search for someone to replace Kael, as the best thing a woman can do is learn to live alone and find happiness that way. If someday I find someone who truly values me and for whom I feel an attraction, maybe I can try to move forward, but it won't be to prove that I'm happy or to show that I've gotten over the man I still love.
With these thoughts in mind, after the Saturday morning qualifying session, I decided to ask for a recommendation at the hotel where I was staying and went to a beauty salon for a major makeover. I opted for a much shorter and straight haircut, along with highlights in my dark locks, making me the so-called "lightened brunette." For the evening, I chose to wear a white dress with a neckline that accentuated my chest and reached just above my thighs. Despite that, it wasn't a piece that could be considered sexy; it was very beautiful and discreet.
Enrico invited me to dinner that night, claiming that I owed him for choosing Hillary over him the night before, and I thought it would be a good idea to accept. When he knocked on my room door, I was already ready, and his surprise at the transformation was evident.
"Wow!" he exclaimed, impressed. "You look perfect!"
I thanked Enrico for the compliment with a smile and started to leave, closing the door to the room since we had to return early for the race the next morning. Enrico agreed and held my hand, which surprised me.
"Why are we holding hands?" I asked, not understanding the gesture.
"I decided to take advantage of no one knowing about our failed love stories and continue with the charade of our perfect relationship," explained Enrico.
Although I rolled my eyes in boredom, I didn't let go of his hand because I valued our friendship a lot, which was surprising considering how I used to see him as a jerk and a cynic. My perspective had changed, but I still thought he was quite cynical.
Dinner was pleasant, and we took some photos with motorsport fans who recognized Enrico.
"It would be interesting if these photos reached Rachel and Graham," Enrico suddenly commented when we arrived in front of my room.
"I don't think we should dwell on them," I contested. "You told me to forget about people who don't treat me well."
"You can forget because you don't know how to deal with them," he retorted. "But I don't intend to do the same. I'll do whatever I can to bother them."
"But why would you do that? I don't understand why you're so insistent on Rachel when she made it clear she's not interested."
“Because I get what I want, and I won't be satisfied until she's by my side," Enrico said, determined.
I shook my head in disapproval because I didn't have that same drive and attitude, something Enrico believed I urgently needed to change.
"If Rachel is as petty as you always make a point to repeat, why be with her? Doesn't it bother you to be with someone like that?" I was genuinely curious about the answer to that question.
"When I get Rachel to admit her feelings for me, I will teach her a very important lesson that will make her realize how wrong her actions are," Enrico replied confidently.
I admired all that self-assuredness, but I didn't know what to think about the matter.
"I'm going to head in; I'm tired, and you need to be in good shape tomorrow to win the race," I said, smiling at the thought of the important competition.
"I intend to win this championship. I want to be at the top of the podium and be a standout in the category because there's nothing like wealth and success to get your sister to notice me," Enrico admitted, revealing that he planned to win Rachel over in a completely misguided way, as that didn't guarantee love.
"I thought you wanted Rachel's love," I pointed out, with irony.
"I want Rachel by my side, no matter the motivation. Then I'll turn the tables, and she will fall completely in love with me; you'll see."
