Repentance

**Kael**

I listened carefully to Maira's words and felt my heart tighten with sadness. I wanted to be by Sarah's side at that moment, offering the support that, out of pride and being a complete fool, I hadn't given before – the love I felt for her.

"I don't understand why the doctor doesn't just tell Sarah the truth!" I vented, genuinely outraged. "I don't see any reason to keep her in the dark like this."

Maira had just informed me that Sarah had already noticed the lack of movement and sensation in her legs, and now I had many questions, especially after the doctor's visit in the morning.

"Something else happened today," Maira said, looking somewhat apprehensive.

"What?"

"She agreed to see Enrico."

"I can't believe she agreed to see him, but can't even stand to hear my name!" I said, irritated.

"Her relationship with Enrico is very different from what you both had, Kael," Maira tried to calm me down. "From what I understand, considering both of their reports, you made a serious mistake with Sarah, and she's deeply hurt because of it."

Maira was right; I had made many mistakes in this situation, and I needed a chance to show Sarah that things would be different now and that I was more than willing to fight for both of us.

"What time did he come?" I asked, my voice raising slightly.

"He's in her room talking to her."

"Why aren't you there with them?" Faced with Maira's amused look, I added, "Okay, I confess. I'm jealous."

I was consumed by intense jealousy, almost envy because he was with her while she couldn't even hear my name.

I was still in London and didn't intend to leave until I resolved the situation with Sarah until I obtained her forgiveness – something I needed. But for that, I needed a way to get that idiot out of my way.

"They needed a private moment to talk, Kael. I can't force Sarah to do something she doesn't want to do, let alone make her see you."

"Still, I need to see her, Maira," I run my hand through my hair, anxiety taking over. "How can I get her to agree to see me?"

"I don't know," she looks at me with compassion, believing in my sincerity.

"What are you doing here?"

We look at the man who just entered the waiting room, where Maira and I are talking. I stand up immediately, ready for a serious conversation with my rival.

"I have as much or even more right to be here than you do," I respond, prepared for confrontation.

We maintained civility on the day of the accident, everyone was concerned about Sarah, but we hadn't met since then. I'm frustrated to find out that he visited her and I didn't.

"You have no ethics!" he says, surprisingly.

"What do you mean by that, you idiot?" I ask, not understanding his baseless provocation.

"I'm talking about this absurd auction thing."

I became concerned about that information; after all, Sarah telling her "boyfriend" about it had many implications.

"Sarah told you about that?" I needed to know.

"Rachel told me about it, but I'm sure it didn't happen the way she said," he explains. "I believe more in the possibility that you pressured Sarah to the point where she resorted to that."

Given Bianchi's evident anger and considering the current context, I realize it's better to tell the whole truth. All of it.

"An auction?" Maira asks, confused. "Can someone explain to me what's going on?"

Despite being in a hospital room, Maira couldn't go far and leave Sarah alone, as she can't do anything without help now. I resign myself to try to have the conversation right there.

"I can explain everything," I say, running my hand through my hair.

"There's no explanation for something so abominable!" Bianchi interrupts me, preventing me from expressing my intention to clarify things, not to absolve myself of responsibility.

"There is an explanation, although there may not be a justification," I correct. "Let's go to the cafeteria; I need coffee."

"I can't go with you. I need to get back to the room; Sarah is alone now that Enrico left."

"She's with Hillary and Fiori, Maira. I planned to stay with her in the room until you return, but I had to leave because Sarah agreed to receive visitors," Bianchi explains.

The new information didn't affect me as much as knowing that Sarah was with Bianchi, but I'm still frustrated because now she seems willing to receive everyone except me.

"Maybe she'll also agree to see you soon, Kael," Maira tries to console me, holding my hand when she senses my restlessness. "Sarah didn't want to see anyone until this morning. Things have progressed since then, don't you agree?"

Once again, I admire Maira's insight and appreciate all the support she's offering, not just to Sarah but to me as well, keeping me informed about everything that's happening and even giving me strength when I feel weak, like now.

If I didn't have the possibility of seeing Sarah and also didn't have information about her, my frustration and concern would be even greater, which I have deeply felt in recent days.

"Let's all go then," I said, squeezing my sister's hand in gratitude.

After we arrived at the cafeteria, I decided to share the whole truth with Enrico and Maira, even though I didn't feel the need to give any explanation to Bianchi. However, something leads me to confide in them, and I even feel somewhat relieved after doing so.

"Wow, what a crazy story!" Maira comments, even though she already knew most of the events I described. "I can understand you falling in love with Sarah, what doesn't make sense is you using her instead of admitting your true feelings."

"What surprises me even more in this story is that you, knowing Rachel and knowing she's deceitful, believed her about Sarah being involved in this plot to steal the twins," Bianchi seems disgusted with my behavior.

"I'm disappointed in myself too," I admit. "I made a grave mistake, and acted like an arrogant idiot, but now I want to make things right and be by Sarah's side."

"I don't believe she'll forgive you, and I won't wish you good luck either," Bianchi gets up and leaves the cafeteria after uttering those words.

"I'll try anyway," I say, even though I know he can't hear me anymore.
