My Sister?

**Sarah**

As I entered the lavishly decorated ballroom, the first person I saw was Kael, and it made me extremely nervous, even though I had expected to find him there. I had tried to prepare myself for this moment, but my emotions were so intense that my body trembled.

"Just pretend you didn't see him," Enrico whispered. "He doesn't even deserve a second glance."

"Who? I don't see anyone."

I decided to follow Enrico's advice, as it was time to treat people with the same consideration I received from them. He chuckled at what I said, appreciating my attitude, and together, still holding hands, we made our way toward the center of the party.

Soon, we spotted Bruno Garcia, the team's second pilot and a close friend of Enrico. We approached him as he picked up a glass of expensive champagne that was being served.

"Look who it is, the most popular couple of the moment," Bruno commented, always playful.

"That's exactly what I want everyone to think," Enrico said, clearly pleased.

Seeing the camaraderie between the two pilots, I realized they were true friends. I was certain that Enrico trusted Bruno so much that he even shared our ruse, knowing we weren't a couple.

"I apologize, Bianchi, but I have to highlight how stunning Sarah always looks," Bruno said now in a tone that conveyed sincerity.

"Thank you, Bruno. You're always very kind," I replied, feeling quite embarrassed.

Bruno was genuinely a kind-hearted person, and despite always joking with everyone, he never said anything that could offend or ridicule anyone in any way. As everyone on the racing team said, he was a "good guy," I liked him, just as the team seemed to like him a lot.

"It's not about kindness, Sarah," he returned, looking at me in a way that left me flustered. "I'm just stating the truth."

"Hey! Can you not flirt with each other, please!" Enrico called our attention. "I don't want to have to play the role of the betrayed man."

If I was already embarrassed, Enrico's words made me wish I could hide, the embarrassment was so overwhelming.

"I hope Rachel returns to London as soon as possible, and you two can sort things out," Bruno said, smiling openly.

I did not doubt that Bruno was trying to tease Enrico, something normal between them. Still, I had a lot of fun with the situation, or at least that's the impression I was trying to convey to everyone. Inside, I was feeling awful.

Looking at Kael and remembering that he had sent for my sister in London, disappeared without explanation, and was now in town with another woman was too much to bear without feeling shaken. However, I would be a complete idiot if I even exchanged a word with that arrogant traitor.

At that moment, everyone's attention was drawn to the stage, where the master of ceremonies announced the new owner of Cecati. I wasn't surprised to hear Kael's name called; I had already expected this confirmation. Most of the attendees, however, applauded enthusiastically, clearly taken aback.

He delivered a beautiful speech, thanking everyone for their trust, and as he stepped down from the stage, he was stopped several times by businessmen and people who wanted to talk to him. I avoided looking in his direction, focusing my attention on the people around me.

Enrico, Bruno, and others joined us, and the conversation revolved around motorsports, our area of work. The topic never ran dry when everyone had something to contribute.

When it was just the three of us again, Enrico discreetly grasped my arm and whispered in my ear.

"Don't look now, but I believe Graham is heading this way," he warned.

I didn't have time to respond, let alone prepare myself, as Kael approached from where we were, accompanied by his companion.

"Good evening, everyone," he greeted us. "I hope you're enjoying our event."

"Everything is great, Mr. Graham," Bruno replied in a friendly manner. "I'm Bruno Garcia, Nessyscar's pilot."

"Kael Graham, but I believe you already know that," he said arrogantly.

Unlike Bruno, both Enrico and I remained silent, and, without even planning it, we simply nodded in greeting to the newcomers.

"As you haven't introduced your companion, I'll do it myself," Enrico said with irony. "I'm Enrico Bianchi, Nessyscar's pilot."

I discreetly held onto his arm and squeezed it firmly, trying to convey how much I hated that he had said that to Kael.

"I'm Maira, nice to meet you all. I like Formula One, and I confess I knew your names already," she explained with clear enthusiasm. "And you must be Sarah, right?"

I immediately went on the defensive, wondering where this woman could know me from and if Kael had said something about me.

"I'm Sarah Mitchell if that's your question."

I had no intention of making it easier for anyone, especially not for the woman who was accompanying Kael to such an event.

"Maira is our sister," Kael said, leaving me completely confused. "I believe you may have heard something about it."

"Sister? I think I didn't understand what you meant."

"Maira is my sister and yours too, Sarah," he repeated slowly as if speaking to a young child.

"Our sister?" I asked, completely puzzled by what he meant by that statement. "That's... impossible... isn't it?"

I felt my entire body tremble. The information about the existence of a common sister was unexpected and shocking. I tried to process it, but my mind was confused, and my feelings were in turmoil. How was that possible? How did Kael know this, and I didn't?

As I tried to grapple with the surprise, Maira's gaze turned to me with an expression of understanding.

"But it's true, Sarah..." she whispered, appearing emotional. "We are sisters."
