I need to see her
Enrico
When the day came to board for the next leg of the circuit, I reflected on the ironies of fate and how it always seemed to want to test me. The competition venue was now in the United States. Although Austin and Seattle were considerably far from each other, the mere idea of being in the same country already made me nervous and deeply uncomfortable.
I attributed my poor performance in the race to these two combined factors because it was impossible to concentrate after more than ten days with practically no news from Rachel and Joseph. Sarah even tried to help me, albeit reluctantly, by sending Ryan to my father's house, contributing to our understanding of how everyone was in Seattle.
According to Sarah's brother, my father seemed to be doing well and full of vigor. He even mentioned that Joseph was now exercising daily, something Joseph had always refused to do but had now changed his mind. I had set up a small gym for him in the mansion shortly after acquiring the property, but Joseph had never agreed to use it. However, now he was doing so under the guidance of a professional, as Ryan told me.
According to Sarah, the most important thing we found out was Joseph's situation in Seattle. There was no doubt that he was doing well, after all, Lindsay had always treated him with extreme kindness and could handle even his bad moods with ease, something Rachel couldn't manage.
However, even that had changed in the last few weeks before the unpleasant discovery of her pregnancy. Rachel was calmer, and they seemed to get along better. The biggest proof of this was the fact that she was also at the mansion in Seattle with Lindsay and Joseph, something he had undoubtedly agreed to of his own accord.
Although Ryan had informed me that his sister was living and working at my father's house, he hadn't kept in touch with her, which bothered me even more. So, when Lorenzo and Hilary invited me to go out and celebrate another victory of my main competitor for the title that year, I declined. I wasn't in the mood for parties or celebrations.
Lorenzo teased me with a triumphant smile:
“Don't you know how to handle a defeat anymore?”
We were friends now, but the rivalry persisted. We were still competing for the title, and the friendship stayed off the track.
“My race today was a complete disaster,” I said moodily. “But you're not going to miss the chance to tease me, are you?”
Lorenzo replied without losing that little smile:
“Tell me, Enrico, when have you ever missed the chance to do the same to me?”
My response was a grimace, and everyone around us laughed at what Lorenzo had said. I simply waved goodbye and headed towards the rest of my team, determined to find Bruno, who was chatting with two attractive women and seemed very excited about my arrival.
“I was looking for you” I informed after briefly greeting everyone.
“I'm organizing our night,” my teammate said enthusiastically.
I immediately understood what he was trying to say and just smiled in agreement, but I didn't intend to help with that task. Bruno was planning a get-together with the girls in our hotel suite, where we could have fun together. It wouldn't be the first time, and I imagine it wouldn't be the last either. Even though I should be pleased to have an attractive plan for the night, my mind was far away, miles away. In Seattle, to be precise.

As promised by Bruno, the two girls joined us for an intense night in our suite. I tried my best to push away my thoughts and focus solely on my instincts, enjoying the moment to the fullest. However, when morning came, it brought a sense of emptiness and... guilt.
Even though I knew there was no real reason to feel guilty, my heart felt heavy in my chest, and I couldn't stay in bed for another minute. The girl was already gone, as I had made sure to send her back home right after sex. Still, the sweet perfume she wore seemed to linger in the sheets, which made my stomach turn.
Besides feeling guilty for being with someone else, I also felt bad about how I practically kicked her out when she hinted at wanting to spend the night with me, something that was completely out of the question.
If before Rachel I didn't usually spend the night with the women I was involved with, now it had become even more impossible. It requires a level of intimacy that I am not willing to have with any other woman.
After a long shower, which I needed to try to start another day, I got out of the bathroom and heard my phone ringing. It was Lorenzo, inviting me to go to Seattle with him and Hilary on his rented jet.
“We're going to visit Sarah” he explained. “I figured you might want to come too.”
Of course, fate was playing with me a bit more. It wasn't enough to constantly think about Seattle and the fact that I was in the same country as Rachel. Now, I also had the opportunity to go to Seattle right in front of me.
“How much time do we have until the airport?” I asked while putting on a pair of boxer briefs.
“Just two hours.”
“Reserve two seats. I'll bring Bruno with me.”
I decided to bring my friend to make sure I'd have someone to go out and have fun with in Seattle, so Rachel wouldn't think I was in the city just because of her. After all, she was pregnant with another man, and I wasn't going to play the fool like that. It didn't matter that, in reality, that's exactly what I was doing, but she didn't need to know that.
