Dangerous Bluff

**Rachel**

Finally, after repeating the same things for hours, I managed to leave Kael's office, which was a relief. The long plane journey had left me exhausted, but Kael didn't even allow me to rest for a few hours, something I had hoped to do as soon as I reached some luxurious hotel in Seattle.

When I noticed Ryan pulling into the garage of the building where I had bought the apartment, I asked, "What are we doing here?"

"Isn't this where you have an apartment?" he said dismissively, parking the car in one of the spaces.

I found it strange that he had managed to enter the building so easily, but I needed to get out of the car as well and follow Ryan, who was already getting out of the vehicle.

"I know that, jerk. But I can't stay here," I protested, following him.

"Why not? It's your apartment!" he asked, finally paying attention to me.

"I rented it to someone, and they have a six-month contract. There are still five months left," I explained.

Ryan became visibly irritated upon hearing about the apartment, but I didn't care. After all, the apartment is mine, and I can do whatever I want with it.

"I need to talk to Kael about where we're going to put you," he said.

Ryan quickly grabbed his phone and made the call after rolling his eyes at least three times. He walked away from me to get some more privacy to talk to his boss, and after a brief conversation, he returned to my side.

"Just for tonight, you'll stay at Kael's apartment, and tomorrow we'll look for a hotel for you," he announced, heading toward the door where the elevators were. "I imagine you must be quite tired, so we won't be wandering around all over the place."

"Oh, how kind of you both. I feel so flattered by the consideration you have for me."

I was being ironic, and of course, Ryan noticed, but he seemed to choose to ignore it. He took advantage of the elevator doors opening and quickly stepped inside, and I had to follow him.

"I thought we were going to Kael's apartment," I said, not understanding why we had still entered the elevator in that building. "Did you change your mind? I've already told you that my apartment is not available."

"We're not going to your apartment, Rachel," he said, sounding annoyed.

"So, where are we going, you idiot?"

I wasn't in the mood for all that mystery. I hated how Ryan always summed things up in a few words and couldn't understand why he couldn't just be more straightforward. After all, why all the secrecy? It was so annoying.

"I swear I'm trying to be patient with you, Rachel. But I admit that it's becoming more impossible with every word that comes out of your mouth."

At that moment, I couldn't retort to Ryan's words as I wanted to because the elevator doors opened, revealing that we were on the rooftop of the building. I only realized this at that moment.

Ryan pressed the intercom button at the only door on the floor, and a lady quickly answered. She had a strong Spanish accent and was wearing a black uniform.

"Young Ryan! What are you doing here at this hour? I wasn't expecting you!"

The woman spoke cheerfully, and Ryan seemed to know the maid very well, greeting her affectionately. He entered the hallway with ease, and I followed, observing everything in silence as he chatted intimately with a certain Dolores.

The living room we were led to was enormous and extremely luxurious, exactly the kind of environment I was accustomed to and where I felt completely at home.

Dolores accompanied us to the living room and mentioned that if she had been notified of our arrival, she would have prepared something for dinner. Ryan, however, declined, saying he wasn't hungry, and allowed her to go home.

"So, Kael has a penthouse in the same building where I bought my apartment..." I commented cynically. "That seems very suspicious to me. I realize I've been manipulated in every way."

"That doesn't matter anymore, Rachel. What's done is done, and that's it!"

The way Ryan downplayed all my issues irritated me quite a bit. He wasn't the one left in poverty unable to take a simple trip! But I'll take all the money I can from Kael. He'll pay me dearly.

"Why didn't you let the maid prepare dinner for us? I'm starving!" I decided to annoy my friend Ryan quite a bit.

"How can a person be so annoying and demanding as you, Rachel?" Ryan said, running his hand through his hair. "Nothing pleases you. I don't understand how anyone can put up with you."

"Everyone gets the Rachel they deserve. I can be very nice when I want to," I said, brushing off his words.

I walked over to the sofa, which seemed incredibly inviting at that moment, and threw myself onto it, exhaustion washing over me. All I could think about was how urgently I needed a decent meal and a comfortable bed.

"Go to the kitchen and tell Dolores that we've changed our minds and want her to prepare our dinner," I said. "Or order something to be delivered. It doesn't matter, as long as I get to eat and go to sleep."

Finally, Ryan agreed, "Alright, girl, you win." He picked up the phone to place the order.

"While we wait for dinner, I'll take a shower and put on some comfortable clothes," I commented, feeling satisfied with the small victory as I got up from the sofa. "Where are my things?"

I looked around, but then I remembered that Ryan hadn't taken my suitcases out of the car.

"You didn't bring the suitcases?" I asked, obviously annoyed.

"The suitcases are yours, and you should have been the one to bring them," Ryan replied, turning away and walking down the hallway. "I'll show you where you'll be staying tonight."
