I Won't Give In

**Sarah**

Turning my back on the man I love was incredibly difficult. Yes, I love him, and the realization of this old fact changes nothing. Kael may have come after me, but he never made any promises. He just wants to take advantage of being in town and have a few more nights of sex, nothing more. But I don't want the same.

Some people may be content with less as long as they're with the one they love. I can't accept something like that. I want it all. And even after hours rolling in bed, reliving every minute I spent face to face with Kael, remembering every word he said, I still have the same conviction.

Enrico left after a few minutes, realizing that Kael had entered the taxi and assuming he wouldn't be coming back, at least not that night.

"He'll come for you again, Sarah," Enrico had said. "He wants you, and he won't give up easily. The question is, how long can you resist?"

"I won't give in," I replied with renewed determination.

That same determination drove me to ignore Kael's calls the next day and all the messages he sent me throughout the day. Each time I pressed the red button, my heart squeezed a little tighter. However, I knew I was doing the right thing. There was still so much to discover about myself, and I didn't need someone who saw me only as a passing adventure. I deserved someone who loved me completely, someone willing to share life with me, not just fleeting moments.

Making this decision rationally was easy when I was busy with day-to-day tasks, especially during working hours. However, when the day came to an end and Hillary called to let me know she was meeting some people at a pub near Nessyscar's offices, I felt apprehensive about the idea of staying home alone.

She invited me to join them, even though I had no desire to do so, but at that moment, I considered accepting because the alternative didn't seem like a good option.

Enrico seemed to read my thoughts from a distance and came to my rescue, offering another option.

"How about we go to your place and watch something on TV?" he suggested, approaching where we were standing. "I'm not in the mood to be alone in my apartment tonight."

"Why don't you guys join us?" Hilary heard Enrico's words and took the opportunity to extend the invitation she had made to me. "It's going to be a lot of fun, I promise."

I hesitated for a moment, pondering the option of joining them. Hilary was always lively and knew how to make any gathering fun. I told Enrico about the invitation Hillary had extended, as he seemed eager for some distraction that evening. He deserved to have some fun, and maybe it would also help me push away the tumultuous thoughts that were haunting me. "Alright, let's join you guys," I finally replied. Hilary seemed quite pleased with my response. She gave us directions to meet them at the pub, and we said our goodbyes. Soon enough, Enrico and I were heading towards our destination.

When my phone rang a few minutes later, I felt a certain uneasiness seeing Rachel's name on the screen. Something told me it wasn't just a cordial call between sisters.

I ended the call in a daze. I couldn't make sense of anything Rachel had said during the call. She had spoken a bunch of random and incomprehensible things, blaming me for something I couldn't even understand. Amidst all the confused words, I could discern Lorenzo's name.

"Is something wrong with Rachel?" Enrico asked, visibly concerned, looking at me with apprehension.

If there was one thing I truly believed in, it was Enrico's feelings for my sister, as he made it evident in everything he did, even in the charade we were involved in, precisely for that reason.

"Rachel is drunk. She doesn't usually drink," I repeated what I had said since the beginning of that conversation. "She avoids alcohol at all costs, and I could tell from her voice that she's quite altered."

"I believe something must have happened to upset her, and it's definitely related to that idiot Fiori," Enrico said, clearly irritated.

I suspected the same, and for that reason, I chose to remain silent. I hated making assumptions, something I was already doing, in fact, so it was better to keep my speculations to myself.

Determined to find Rachel and understand what was going on, Enrico and I abandoned the initial plan to meet Hilary at the pub and headed to the Tiger Tiger nightclub where Rachel said she was.

I noticed that Enrico's gaze was divided between the rearview mirror and the direction strangely, and when I questioned him about it, I received a response that left me completely bewildered.

"Graham is right behind us," he said.

I couldn't believe my ears, and I believe my expression gave me away.

"I warned you he wouldn't give up easily," Enrico reminded me.

Despite being right about that, there was none of his usual cynicism in his words. Enrico was genuinely concerned about Rachel, that much was clear.

"Let's not waste time with Kael now," I said, trying to believe my own words. "Rachel needs us, and that's the only thing that matters right now."

Enrico parked the car, and with hearts heavy with worry, we entered the bustling nightclub, searching for any sign of her.

As I watched the crowd dancing and having fun, my eyes fixed on a familiar figure. There was Rachel, dancing sensuously with a stranger. Her loose hair swayed to the rhythm of the music, and she seemed lost in a parallel reality. Enrico spotted her too and squeezed my arm, indicating that we had found her. Our anxious steps led us to her, crossing the crowded dance floor.

When we finally reached Rachel's side, expressions of pleasure and confusion mixed on her face. She looked at us in surprise, as if abruptly brought back to reality.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice slurred from alcohol.

I held her hand and looked directly into her eyes, trying to make myself heard above the loud nightclub music.

"Rachel, we're here for you. We're worried, and we want to help. Let's take you home."

"I'm not going anywhere with you, you conniving bitch!" Rachel said abruptly, roughly pulling my hand away from her arm. "You're a fake! You stole my boyfriend!"
