A Liar?

**Sarah**

The path to Hillary's apartment was completely silent, but I didn't even realize this fact, so lost in thoughts I was at that moment. I believe Lorenzo must have been having his own reflections as well.

It's incredible to think that Rachel arrived in London just this morning, after spending a week in Italy accompanying Lorenzo on a visit to his family. And also how desperate I was to see her again, feeling a great sense of emptiness in the past few days and missing the city where I've always lived.

Even though Rachel and I have always traveled together, first with our mother and then on our own, I knew that at some point we would return home. However, now everything is completely different. But now, after this situation with Lorenzo, I'm utterly lost.

"I want you, Sarah," Lorenzo said, sounding sincere and determined. "But before that, I need to talk to Rachel and end everything between us."

"Are you sure this is really what you want to do, Lorenzo?" I asked, nervousness now at its peak. "Because I'm not even sure about what I want at this moment."

"Even if we can't be together, and I truly want you, Sarah, I still can't continue with Rachel," Lorenzo managed to surprise me again with this declaration. "The fact is, the more I get to know her, the less attraction I feel for her."

"I don't understand!" I exclaimed, in shock. "You had some time to get to know each other before the trip to Italy, Lorenzo."

"I didn't want to speak ill of Rachel, because she's your sister, after all. But the truth is, she pretends to be someone, but the days we spent together with my family at the vineyard showed me she's not who I thought she was."

I wasn't pleased to hear Lorenzo speaking in that manner about Rachel. However, even considering the fact that she's my sister, after what happened between us because of the auction money, I recognized that sometimes she could be a difficult person to deal with.

"I don't feel entitled to voice my opinion on your relationship, especially after... after what happened," the car parked in front of Hillary's building at this moment, "I better go... Until... another day."

I had no clue how to bid farewell to him after we had kissed like that and after his confession, so I quickly exited the car, not waiting for him to say anything. I must have been under the influence of some drug to have accepted Lorenzo's kiss and even enjoyed it. What madness!

I arrived at Hillary's apartment completely spaced out, still thinking about the kiss, and even more about how wrong it was.

"Hello!" Hillary greeted me as she saw me enter the living room. "You took a while today. Was there some last-minute issue?"

Hillary was a sweetheart and was always concerned about knowing everything that happened and how she could help.

"Actually, something did happen," I admitted. I couldn't keep what happened to myself. I urgently needed to vent to someone, especially since Hillary herself would find out very soon, considering that Lorenzo and she are great friends.

"I hope it's not something too serious, as the practice sessions for the Silverstone race are starting tomorrow." I understood that Hillary thought it was a work-related issue.

"There's no problem with the team, Hillary." I explained. "It's about me, and it's not good."

I looked at her with an expression that surely conveyed all the horror I was feeling right now. Hillary was lying on the couch, holding a book in her hand, and she looked at me attentively, her mouth opening in a rather comically surprised expression.

"What have they done to you, friend?" She asked, already taking sides in the situation without even knowing what had actually happened, but already absolving me of the blame.

"What I did would be the more accurate question, Hillary." I corrected her. "Lorenzo and I kissed."

"Ah!" Hillary even let out a gasp of surprise. "But a kiss, a real kiss? Like... on the lips?"

I didn't want to laugh; there was no room for jokes, but I couldn't control my laughter at my friend's silly questions.

"A real kiss, Hillary!"

"Oh my goodness!" She covered her mouth with her hand, visibly shocked. "And how did this happen? Lorenzo just arrived in London today!"

"Let's sit down, I'll tell you everything."

To my great relief, Hillary didn't judge me, even though I was constantly judging myself. I couldn't even sleep properly and I even dreamt of Rachel crying and begging me not to ruin her happiness. I woke up feeling like the worst person in the world, but I knew I needed to go to work and wouldn't let down those who had given me such a magnificent opportunity because of a mistake.

I left for the Nessyxcar office a little after seven in the morning. Rachel hadn't contacted me yet, and I figured she would prefer to address the situation in person.

However, my surprise was immense when I saw them arrive together for the practice sessions, and I quickly deduced that she must not know yet, as she seemed calm. This could only mean that Lorenzo hadn't mustered the courage to tell the truth, and I wasn't willing to keep lying to my sister in any way.

Once the practice sessions were over, I would approach Rachel and tell her that Lorenzo and I had kissed. I couldn't keep this secret when it was eating me up inside. If Lorenzo didn't have the decency to speak up, I would do it myself.
