Potential Husband
**Rachel**
I accepted the drink she handed me, but instead of drinking, I pretended to take small sips while secretly disposing of the contents. My suspicion of Shirley made me doubt her intention in offering me something to drink.
My gaze crossed paths with the man's once again, and this time he gave a slight smile before moving away. I was intrigued by his reaction, feeling that there was something more behind that gaze.
“Rachel, did you notice that?” Shirley said, with an excited air.
“Notice what?” I asked, curious.
“Lorenzo Fiori can't take his eyes off you. And from the way he was looking at you, I'd bet he's interested.”
“Lorenzo Fiori?” I didn't recognize the name.
“The Formula One driver. He's been a champion in the category, I'm sure.”
My heart raced upon hearing these words. Lorenzo Fiori was a famous and successful figure, and the possibility of him being interested in me was thrilling. He would be a perfect potential husband for me. Glamour and money, travel. A dream!
As I processed this information, Lorenzo began to approach me, and my stomach churned with a mixture of nervousness and excitement. He came closer and, to my surprise, called me by name.
“Rachel, it's great to see you again!” He greeted them with a warm smile.
I was bewildered. I was certain I had never seen him before. How did he know my name? My mind spun in confusion as I tried to make sense of this unexpected situation, while my brain told me to seize that wonderful opportunity that had fallen into my lap.
“Hi... Lorenzo” I said, trying to maintain a facade of calmness “I'm also glad to see you again.”
My attention was fully focused on Lorenzo, trying to ignore Shirley's confused and irritating look. I wouldn't let her interfere with my plans this time. No way.
“You vanished on me yesterday. I must admit, that left me a bit disappointed.”
"Yesterday?" I thought, confused. In fact, I had spent almost the entire day in my apartment, exhausted from the partying and the exhausting routine during my trip to Spain.
“It wasn't intentional, believe me,” I said, holding up the best smile I could manage.
Lorenzo seemed to readily accept my explanation, even though I hardly knew what he was talking about. I needed to understand what was happening.
“No problem.” He replied, showing understanding, though I wasn't sure which transgression he was forgiving “The important thing is that you're here now, and this time, I won't let you disappear like before.”
My heart raced faster upon hearing these words, as my brain desperately tried to piece together the puzzle forming in front of me.
“I have no intention of disappearing, darling,” I replied with a seductive smile, striving to maintain my composure as the mystery around Lorenzo deepened.
I continued the conversation with Lorenzo, playing with my words and expressions to try to understand the strange dynamics unfolding. Shirley, on the other hand, seemed increasingly excluded from the conversation, which pleased me deeply.
The night went on, and my curiosity about Lorenzo only grew. As I asked him careful and playful questions, I also devised internal plans to make him even more interested in me. Handsome, rich, and seemingly easily manipulable. What more could I want in a husband?
I kept my gaze focused on Lorenzo, but I didn't stop casting quick glances at Shirley, and at every moment, I searched for Bruna. Until I saw her hurrying towards the corridor that led to the bathrooms. I decided to seize the opportunity, pretending that I also needed to use the restroom, and followed her in the same direction. I caught up with her just as she was about to enter one of the doors in the corridor.
“Hi, Bruna” I greeted, my breath slightly labored “I need to talk to you.”
“Rachel or Sarah?”
“Rachel.”
She didn't seem surprised and invited me to enter the same room where we had met before. As privacy enveloped us, Bruna seemed to anticipate my questions.
“I've already told you everything I knew about that night. There's nothing more to add.”
“Nothing? What do you know about Kael Graham being here?”
Bruna seemed confused by my question.
“Kael Graham is a partner of Arthur, my boyfriend. What's his connection to you?”
My anger showed as I explained fervently:
“Kael Graham is the reason my life turned upside down. Plain and simple. Him being one of the owners of this place explains why Shirley brought me here, where he could cover up any problems if something went wrong.”
She pondered for a moment and replied sincerely:
“I wouldn't doubt he's capable of that. But I don't know anything beyond what I've already said.”
I sighed resignedly. It seemed returning to this club was in vain. The important pieces of the puzzle were already in my possession. Kael had used Shirley to drug me, providing him the perfect opportunity to humiliate and manipulate me at his will. It was the end of the story.
“Alright” I accepted, acknowledging her limited information “I'll head back to the bar. Thank you, anyway.”
I needed to keep Bruna as a potential ally; after all, my situation was becoming increasingly solitary. Before I could leave, Bruna stopped me with an intriguing question:
“Rachel? Were you at the club yesterday?”
A discreet smile formed on my lips at this coincidence. Another person saw me yesterday?
“The last time I was here was to talk to you, Bruna.”
She seemed to ponder for a moment and then revealed surprising information:
“Then I guess you'd like to know that Sarah was here yesterday. Even more curious, when Fiori was talking to my boyfriend, he mentioned that you had suddenly disappeared.”
I looked at Bruna with a mixture of shock and understanding. Everything was starting to fall into place perfectly. Sarah in the club, Lorenzo's confusion, and his calling my name. Could my sister capture the attention of a man like Lorenzo Fiori?
I remember the countless times in our childhood when we swapped places. However, what left me perplexed was that I usually assumed Sarah's role in those exchanges, not the other way around. Sarah was at the club last night, pretending to be me. That's why Lorenzo thought he recognized me. It explained the confusion and also the way he called my name. In reality, he must have recognized Sarah and mistaken her for me.
A whirlwind of emotions ran through me. Anger, confusion, curiosity, and even a touch of envy. I felt deceived.
“Thank you for telling me this, Bruna.” My voice sounded calmer now, and my mind was already working on the next steps.
She nodded, and I left the room, determined to make the most of the situation. As I returned to the bar, my heart was filled with new questions and possibilities.
“I hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long.”
