Chapter 38
Christopher's POV
I couldn't sleep, so I got up and looked around; I was in the guest room of Lucas Mansion. When I looked at the wall clock, it was 2 a.m. I stood up and went outside after approaching the door.
I don't believe anyone is awake at this hour; I'm afraid Khalil will catch me, but I think he is also sleeping in Aria's room. When I came downstairs, I was surprised to see Lucas drinking water, and he turned around.
"What keeps you awake?" Lucas approached me and asked me a question.
"I'm going to drink some water," I replied, picking up the pitcher and the mug he was holding.
"I just woke up because I had a dream about Aria," Lucas said as I sipped my water. Is he going to ask me for advice?
"What sort of dream do you have?" After drinking some water, I asked him, and he sat in the kitchen chair.
"It was about saving her, something like a monster; I'm not sure why a monster is in my dream. Kai is also a human, and he is not a monster; I'm not sure why I dreamed about it," Lucas stated, and I was surprised to learn this while listening to his story.
"It's just a dream, and it won't happen in real life. Relax, you're overthinking. Everything will be fine," I told him as I sat down on the chair beside him.
"Are you going back to your room? You'll be with Aria tomorrow," Lucas' question made me scratch my head.
"I'll be honest, I can't sleep; you can't either, right?" When I asked him, he nodded and laughed.
"I think we should talk about something," Lucas suggested. I was nervous because he had previously discovered that I was Aria's brother in the past.
"What are we going to discuss? Is it related to Aria? Do you want my opinion on her?" I asked him a question and looked at him, then he became serious.
"Yes, you are correct; it is about Aria. I just wanted to let you know because I don't know what the future holds." Lucas spoke up, and I nodded.
"Okay, tell me about it; I'll listen," I replied, and he looked around, which perplexed me.
"If I'm gone, I want you to look after Aria; I know it's a difficult task, but if anything happens to me, please look after her," Lucas said solemnly while I nodded.
"Aria is a kind and sensitive person, and she will be hurt if I leave, do you understand? I'm telling you this because you were his brother in the past." When he asked, I nodded.
"I understand that I can take care of her, don't worry about it," I told him, tapping my shoulder.
"That's it; I'm going back to my room now that I'm at ease." Lucas stood up and walked away, leaving me here. I don't think I'll be able to sleep again right now.
If something terrible happens to Lucas, I will do my best to look after Aria. In the past, she was my younger sister, so I understand.
I got up and went outside the mansion; when I got to the garden, I was surprised to hear someone calling my name.
"What are you up to down there?" I heard Aria's voice and looked up to see her in her pajamas, scratching her back.
"Why are you awake this late? I assumed you were sleeping." When I asked her, she just yawned.
"Who cares if I wake up at this hour; you should go back to sleep, or I will command Khalil to scare you," Aria said, and I was surprised to see Khalil in front of me.
"Never do that again!" Aria was laughing as I yelled.
"Go back to sleep, Christopher," Khalil said, leaping into Aria's room.
Did she hear me come to the garden? Because Aria apprehended me, I went inside the mansion and upstairs to my guest room. I lay down and tried to sleep when I got there, but I couldn't.
It was the morning after a few hours, and I looked in the mirror to check on myself, hoping that no one would notice that I hadn't gotten enough sleep. I started walking to take a shower; they gave me some clothes to wear today, which I appreciate.
After a shower, I put on the sweater Aiden gave me because he said we were the same size. The sweater is gray, and I can still wear my fitted denim jeans yesterday. After fixing my hair, I smiled in the mirror and was surprised to hear someone knock.
I opened the door. Lucas and Aria were there; what did they want?
"Good morning, brother! How was your sleep the night before?" Aria made fun of me because she knew I was awake last night.
"It's all right! Let us go eat breakfast! I can't wait to get outside today!" I said, putting my arms around Aria, and we walked together while Lucas trailed behind.
"I shouldn't have called you last night and let Khalil handle you," Aria said, surprising me.
"Are you attempting to kill me by frightening me?" I told her, and she laughed, and when we arrived at the table where the other protectors were gathered.
I took a seat, and Aria took a seat in the center. The breakfast is a sandwich with bacon and eggs, and Wyatt also added some cheese. I eat the sandwich and overhear Aria conversing with the other protectors.
"I forgot to tell you all. I had something to tell you." Aria said after drinking her milk when I heard her.
"I can hear your voice even though I'm upstairs; when we were with Lucas Company, I heard the people scream the last time. It was chaotic." Aria stated, which surprised me.
"You can hear things from afar; I believe this is a new power." I was just listening as Isaac spoke.
"Possible perhaps it's because I'm the eternal master," Aria stated, and I drank the black coffee that Isaac prepared. The two of them assist each other in preparing breakfast in the morning because Wyatt can cook.
"I, too, have a power," I joked, and Aria looked at me.
"Yes, you can wake up in the night and wander around the garden while everyone else is sleeping," Aria teased. I was taken aback before the other protectors laughed.
"I talked to him last night; I awoke in the middle of the night," Lucas explained, and I smiled because he had just saved my life.
"I know what conversation you're having; I already told you I can hear it," Aria said, smiling at her eavesdropping on our conversation last night.
"Then you were awake last night," Lucas replied, and I noticed Aria pouting.
"I'm done eating, I'm going to shower, and then I'll get ready for today," Aria said as she stood up, and I was trying not to laugh.
"Master will punish you, Lucas!" Lucas just smirked as I heard Jaxon say.
"She won't punish me, and I'm an exception when she's angry at me," Lucas exclaimed, and I stood up.
"Wyatt, thank you for the food; I'm going outside to wait for Aria," I said. I went outside and leaned against the side of the door.
I take out my phone and open my social media account, scrolling down to see a post from a friend. The rain had texted me, and he was waiting for me at a café near our high school.
Christopher: I'll be there soon; I'm waiting for my friend, who requires assistance.
Rain: I'm going to get some coffee and food first because I haven't had breakfast yet.
The door opened after a few moments to reveal Aria, Khalil, and Jaxon.
"I am safe if we have Jaxon and Khalil with us now," Aria said, and I nodded as I noticed Lucas approaching behind her.
"Please take care and be cautious. I still need to fix my company on what happened last time." Lucas said, and Aria and I both nodded.
