Letty

Elena - Pov

When I pressed Yuri for clarification on what she meant by “safe and sound,” she waved my question aside. I wanted to go home and unwind on my sofa with a glass of wine while watching Netflix. Since Silas was still away on business, and she would rather not dine alone, Yuri insisted I accompany her to dinner. I gave in after being badgered enough to give up my planned night with Netflix and wine.

Sitting in Yuri’s car, I wondered. Even though it didn’t strike me as romantic when I first spotted them, Yuri and Silas have me curious about their relationship. Their relationship is that of a brother and sister.

“What are you thinking so hard about?” Yuri questioned as she drove the vehicle, and I was wearing a sweatshirt that Yuri had given me so that fans wouldn’t recognize me when we stopped at the traffic lights.

“Yuri, you learn everything about me, yet I know nothing about you,” I inquired. Yuri gave me a side glance for a few seconds as her eyes settled back on the road.

“What is that you wish to know?” Her speech had a nervous undertone that I might have missed if I hadn’t been paying attention.

“How would you describe your relationship with Silas?” I asked. The car abruptly stopped as my body wrenched forward, but I was safe because of the seatbelt!

I mumbled, “What the fuck,” and blinked to determine why Yuri had stopped the car. A stray puppy walked right in front of us, shaking with fear. When Yuri and I exited the vehicle, the driver behind us began honking angrily because we had stopped in the traffic lane. It was with much difficulty that I coaxed the quaking puppy into my arms as I cursed the drivers behind for honking at us, seeing we were trying to help a pup. They were so inhuman. As Yuri drove the vehicle, I grabbed a little towel from my handbag to put over the shivering pup. I attempted to comfort the tiny fur baby by covering him in a towel and giving him water.

“The earlier you inquired about Mr. Ford and me, I’m sorry… I mean, Silas’ relationship is like a boss and employee one,” Yuri clarified, her serious gaze never matching her uncomfortable grin. I knew there was something else too, but she was unwilling to let me know.

“We should take this puppy to the adoption center,” Yuri said, attempting to divert the subject before I asked her more about the clan and why they dislike cities.

“No, I believe I will look after this little fellow. I’ve always wanted to adopt one, and I think it’s now time to do so.” Yuri nods and smiles at me. Jake was allergic to dogs. I couldn’t adopt one. But now I can. The small doe lap pup stared at me with such affection.

“How does Bruno sound, little guy?” I asked, his doe eyes looking at me, wagging his tail happily. He didn’t shiver anymore and seemed in a good mood. The vehicle pulled up into the parking lot of the exclusive New York City eatery. Yuri helped me unlock the door, and I handed Bruno to her. However, the Burno would not approach Yuri and instead hissed at her.

“He’s still anxious, so I think you can just soothe him,” Yuri replied, his gaze fixed on Bruno, who trembled because of Yuri’s stare as he nestled up against me. Slowly, he calmed down a bit. I placed Burno on the car seat as I removed my hoodie, reached for my purse, and held Bruno back.

“Ms.Hayes” The restaurant’s manager approached, and when his gaze fell upon the dog, he smiled politely. “Ms. Hayes, we do not permit dogs inside the restaurant. We can care for this little puppy in a unique room,” he clarified. Even though I was familiar with the regulations, I was reluctant to have this Burno stay with them. I saw Yuri’s interested stare towards the dining room as if searching for someone.

“Don’t worry, Elena, they’ll take care of this pup,” Yuri said without looking at us. I handed Burno to the manager, who carried him to a separate room. The attendant led us to our seats, which had beautiful city views. This was a VIP class, and just a few seats were available to provide us with the city night view from the rooftop.

“Are you searching for someone?” I questioned Yuri. She seemed to be distracted and looking around the room.

A guilty grin formed on Yuri’s face as she said, “No, I am not.” I’m not sure what’s up with her; she was behaving strangely at first, then she scowled at the pup and became distracted.

As I heard footsteps, someone entered, and the attendant’s voice greeting someone else reached me. A few seconds passed, and I heard a familiar voice that made me hesitate before the sting of food. As she sensed my gaze, Yuri possessed a keen glimmer but swiftly concealed it. I turned over my shoulder to see Silas’ voice chatting to a beautiful-looking lady, and a feeling of jealousy swelled up inside me.

I guess they sensed my sight because they looked right at me. There was a moment of surprise on Silas’ face as he noticed us. Without responding to his stare, I returned my focus to the meal. I do not know what caused my mood to plummet suddenly. Silas is nothing to me, so where are these sentiments coming from?

“Yuri and Elena,” Silas said. I turned to see Silas standing at our side and saw the attractive redhead gazing at us with wide, inquisitive eyes.

She smiled and added, “Silas, please introduce me to Elena.” Silas looked at her and nodded warmly at her. I stifled any feelings of jealousy I had.

“This is Letty, my business partner, and close friend,” Silas remarked, but his gaze looked at Letty with warmth.
