Elena - Pov

“This is Elena Hayes, Letty. You know who she is, and I know you want to get her autograph,” Silas added with a grin toward Letty, which surprised me to see this man smile at all.

When I glanced at Yuri, she had a severe expression and wasn’t smiling.

“Elena, I am your biggest fan and may have the signature,” Letty replied, smiling and taking the paper and pen from her to give her my autograph.

“Silas informed me you had signed a deal with Silas for your next project. I’m looking forward to your new movie” Letty smiled as her hand grabbed his arm, and I glanced at Silas, who didn’t look at me but sighed as Letty as she spilled the beans.

Silas letting her in on this secret made me angry since it was supposed to remain hidden until we conducted the press conference in public.

“If you’ll excuse me, I have to be going,” I remarked politely as I moved away, Yuri getting up from her chair to follow me.

“Yuri, you don’t have to follow me; I can get myself home,” I replied without looking around to see Silas and Letty standing nearby, which stabbed my heart, and I couldn’t understand why I felt this way since I wasn’t dating Silas and hardly knew him.

Maybe I was searching for a substitute and subconsciously hooked my emotional state into the idea that Silas would fill in. I need to go to counseling about my emotional turmoil.

“Look who we have here.” When I heard a menacing voice, I skidded to a standstill. I could feel the fury in Lucy and Jake’s eyes as they glared at me.

“Wow, this is how the evening intends to screw me from every angle,” I grumbled. The onlookers all around us seemed to take this drama seriously.

“Oh, I see the scoundrel with the hooker has shown up,” I replied gently; I was sick of playing the victim’s game and wanted to smack her but refrained.

Lucy hissed at me, “You bitch attempting to get back at us by exposing our private chat to the world. I never believed you could do anything like that.” Jake stood there staring at me.

“You do not know who I am or what I’m capable of,” I murmured in her ear while she fumed, but before Lucy snapped back. Jack restrained her by holding her arm to quiet Lucy down.

“Lucy, don’t make a fuss here.” Jake hushed her as I walked down the empty corridor toward the room where Bruno was being cared for. A hand grabbed my wrist and jerked me back. When I turned around, I realized it was Jake.

“What the fuck?” I attempted to break free from Jake’s firm grip on my wrist, but I couldn’t. His body was close to mine, and his look sent shivers down my spine.

“I admire you, Elena. I thought a scary cat like you would never have to fight me back.” Jake’s chilly voice radiated menace, and my pulse pounded against my chest in panic. I could feel sweat trickling down the back of my neck.

“I believe I would have to put promising harm to your career.” When he murmured in my ear, I felt my body limp because of his threat.

“You aren’t the two goody shoes,” he grumbled.

“I’ll repeat it: you don’t know who I am. When you treated me well, I showed you my best self; when you treated me like garbage, I showed you my bitch self.” He cocked an eyebrow in response to my demeanor. His grip became firmer around my wrist, which caused me agony; I knew he was displaying a dominant, poisonous, masculine attitude, which meant that I should scream in pain rather than remove my snarky grin from my face.

“Putting up a brave front.” He stated that with a malicious smirk, and while I tried to keep it together, a groan escaped my mouth. He had a grin of glee on his face as he took pleasure in my suffering. That didn’t last long, however; I watched slowly as a big balled-up fist punch landed on Jake’s cheeks, sending him staggering backward. Jake’s glow at the guy who hit him drew my attention, and I followed it to see Silas’ angry look. It was frightening to witness this side of him.

Silas snarled at Jake, “Dare you to harm my partner?” The statement came across as if I were Silas’ love partner rather than a professional colleague, and Jake looked at me with fury, as if he was upset with me. Just look at the nerve of this guy to be concerned with me.

“What does he mean, Elena? Are you dating him?” Jake inquired before Jake’s hands touched my shoulder. It seemed like a split second before Silas had me clinging to his body. I didn’t know what had happened, but I saw Jake’s eyes filled with anger as he looked down at Silas, hands resting on my waist.

“If you want to fight, Mr.Smith, let’s do it outside,” Silas said crisply, and Jake balled his fists. My biggest concern was that he would counterattack Silas with a punch.

“Enough! Jake. You have no right to ask me anything. Get the hell out of my sight,” I said as Jake’s gaze swiveled back at me, wrath turning to hurt.

“You will pay for this, Mr. Ford,” Jake mumbled as he walked away, glaring at Silas. I sighed quietly to myself after the drama ended. My heart skipped a beat when I saw myself so near to Silas. His other hand reached over and gently grabbed my wrist as he examined the furious red bruise. His expression conveyed feelings I couldn’t decipher. When his fingers traced the mark with a bit of touch, goosebumps came out on my skin from the warmth of his touch.

I mumbled “thank you” as his ocean blue eyes gazed at me, and dammit, it was hard for me to take another breath.

“Silas,” a soft voice shattered our enchantment, and I freed myself from Silas’ hold and pulled away from his frame. Silas’s and my eyes followed the sound of the voice; Letty looked at us, somewhat startled, while Yuri stared at us with amusement.

“What happened?” Letty said, attempting to conceal her sadness beneath her concerned expression. I don’t know whether I imagined it, but I caught her icy glare of hatred for a split second as she watched me. However, I feel the need to move away from Silas and Letty since Silas is paying more attention to Letty while he explains what occurred.

“Elena, are you okay?” I felt Silas’s gaze shift from Letty to me as I glanced at Yuri with a grin on my face, thanks to the voice of her worry.

“I’m alright; I’ve dealt with bastards in the past,” I said, Yuri, still expressing concern.

Burno barked. I saw him running up to me and hoisting Bruno in my arms as he wagged his tail and licked my face. But Bruno suddenly quieted down when he glanced at Silas and nuzzled against me, and Silas kept a cringing face for a fraction of a second. And it was all three of them.

“Thank you so much, Yuri and Silas. I will take my leave,” I said. I declined Yuri and Silas’ offer of a ride home.

I wait outside and reserve a VIP taxi on the app before I confirm my journey. However, a vehicle pulled up in front of me, and it was Silas.

“Elena, get in the vehicle,” he commanded coldly, and I despised the demand in his voice.

“No need to go through the hassle for me. Why don’t you tag along with Letty? She, too, needs a ride.” I grumbled. Silas stares at me. I quickly masked my feelings carefully. Still, I refused to budge an inch from my position. He got out of the vehicle and came over to talk to me.

“Elena, are you jealous?” he asked. While trying to conceal his amusement, the question made me angry at him.

“Silas, why would I have any reason to feel jealous? We’re business partners.!” I smirked confidently to make my point.

“Come on, Elena, let me drop you,” Silas said as he peered over my shoulder with a serious gaze, and I turned over my shoulder to see it was Jake and Lucy coming out of the restaurant entrance. Jake stared back at us till he got into his vehicle with Lucy.

“Let’s go home, Elena, please” Silas’ adding please to his sentences made me nod in agreement. A weird feeling lurked around as Jake stared at us through the vehicle, which was not moving. But as soon as Silas helped me to get in the car, Jake took off at full speed, the unsettling atmosphere disappeared along with him, and I caressed Bruno, who remained calm throughout.

“Do you hate dogs?” Breaking the uneasy quiet, I inquired.

“No, I don’t hate it; I’m just interested in why you asked.” As he drove, Silas focused intently on the road.

“I saw you are cringing in Bruno’s company, so I’m curious. Also, when you or Yuri are present, Bruno becomes scared of you two”. I remarked, caressing Bruno, who went to sleep.

“Where are Letty and Yuri?” I inquired as we stood in the elevator. I could hide my hostility as I mentioned Letty’s name.

“Yuri drove Letty back to our town.”I nodded, remembering that the remote town’s name was Wolf Land.

“I’m confused. Are you implying that Letty and I are more than friends?” His direct inquiry caught me off guard.

“It’s a strange question to ask me.” I ignored his query and did not provide him with a response. He looked at me in a manner that suggested he was studying me, but when he saw the dog, his interested glance faded away.

“Elena, do you mind joining me for a drink?” Silas inquired. Tonight, he appears to be in a completely different mood, which is unusual.

“Maybe another time,” I said, declining. He looked at me for seconds without emotion as he walked to his door. I need space from dating. When I saw Silas close to Letty, it put me in an unpleasant mood. I was unsure what Silas was up to, and I had to prevent myself from getting hurt again. As I enter my apartment, I see dinner on the dining table and Lyra’s note explaining that she needed to run some errands. Bruno was asleep when I placed him on the sofa. I’m just going to bed. I broke into sweats. It seemed as if the heat in my body suddenly ignited. It felt like it engulfed my body in flames. I had to grab some water, so I got up and went to the kitchen.

It was midnight when I answered the door. I saw Silas, who panted a little, looking pale.
