Mistake

Elena - POV

"Enough," I hissed in frustration. "Jake, I need some time to think about this. Can you not intervene, Silas?" Silas gave an indignant glance at Jake, but when he looked at me, it was a hurting gaze as Silas marched out of the room.

"Thank you very much, Elena; I await your response." As I was processing Jake's remarks, he kissed my forehead. Janice and I are the only ones remaining after Jake has departed.

"Are you positive, Ms. Hayes, that you are going to reconcile your differences with Mr.smith?" Janice inquired. "I realize this isn't the time or place to question you, but that guy treats you like trash, yet you want him back."

"Janice, you're my secretary, so shut up and leave," I yelled, and Janice exited the room with a painful grimace. I somewhat agreed with her that what she said was true, but as Jake begged for a second chance, memories of the three years I had spent with him flashed before my eyes, and it overcame me with a desire to create a home with him.

I want to give my ex another opportunity. Simply put, I want to enjoy my remaining time on earth as much as possible before succumbing to my terminal sickness. I only want to be loved once and not deceived often.

The tears were falling freely now, and I had to close my eyes to stop them. The past was getting at me. First, my best friend slept with my ex-boyfriend, then my second best friend sought to kill my career since she couldn't be as renowned as I was.

Jake wrecked my life, and now he was back at my feet for a chance.

After five days in the hospital, I returned home to recover, where I fretted over Lyra's absence. I texted her, but she didn't respond.

Silas informed me an intruder had tried to rob my apartment and that he had informed the police. Silas had new locks set and was also looking out for Bruno.

Bruno was staring at me with a melancholy glimmer in his eyes.

"Hey there, buddy, I'm good, don't worry about me" Bruno jumped onto the bed and sat on my lap while simultaneously wagging his tail.

"You know I'll be doing something stupid again. I'm going to take Jake back," Bruno's displeasure at my comments was audible in a low growl.

"I know you don't like that person, but you'll grow to like him," Bruno hissed as he sprang off my lap.

I rolled out of bed with an unpleasant discomfort rising on my knees and feet. However, I still managed to go wobbling out of my room and enter the spare room where Jake and I had planned that this room would be our bedroom. . I moved my belongings into the penthouse early on to have this place organized, but shortly after that, Jake cheated on me. I gave up working on organizing so I could make this place our home.

I stood on the balcony to catch some air, overwhelmed by everything around me. I turned to my side and stared at Silas' balcony. Back in the hospital, I felt terrible about snapping at him. I glanced up, trying not to overthink and comforting myself by holding and warming myself with my hands, saying everything would be OK.

"You should be in bed resting," a voice murmured, and I turned to see Silas standing on his balcony with a scotch in hand, gazing out at the dusk skyline.

"I'm done relaxing," I stated gently. He drinks his glass without glancing at me.

"So, you'll be back at work tomorrow, right?" Silas enquired.

"Yeah, as shooting will be in Minnesota," I said.

"I know. When do you plan on leaving? He inquired.

"In two hours," I softly said. He nods his head and moves his feet in the direction of the exit. "Sila," I say, and he gives me a solemn look as he turns to face me.

"I apologize for snapping at you in the hospital," I said.

Silas's soothing voice stated, "Don't be sorry, I was the one to overstep," so why do his words sting like a punch to the gut?

"So I guess we should all head to the airport simultaneously?" Silas inquired.

"Jake will accompany me," I murmured, and he nodded and exited. But why do I have the impression that it wounded Silas? Jake messaged me. He'll accompany me to my shoot and remain with me for a few days. I am ecstatic to be in Jake's presence, so why don't I feel that way?

I packed my belongings, and Bruno accompanied me to Minnesota. I sat and waited for Jake's text message to ring, as he assured me he would come and pick me up. I waited an hour before Jake's text arrived, stating he had some urgent job and couldn't make it.

I was annoyed by Jake's SMS at the last minute, so I told my driver to get ready, and I managed to go to the airport. It was a private jet, which was a fortunate circumstance. Only my staff and the team would accompany me.

I went to business class to see Drake and, Cindy, Janice. What caught me off guard about Silas was the fact that he was traveling with us. I anticipated that he would use his private plane.

"You're late," Cindy growled.

"I know," I yelled.

"So, where is Jake?" Cindy inquired. I should not have let her know that Jake and I had reconciled our relationship.

"None of your concern," I snarled, and she sighed.

"Thank you for finalizing me, Ms. Hayes," Drake remarked. I returned a warm smile with my own. I'll never forget how hard I fought Silas to get Drake to be the male lead.

"You should thank Mr. Ford. He's also a producer," I said. Drake's pleasant grin faded as his gaze fell on Silas, who appeared calm, but I sensed a tempest brewing within him. Was that just my mind playing tricks on me?

"Thank you, Mr. Ford," Drake answered uneasily.

"Are you guys acquainted?" I asked.

"No," they all said at the same time. The atmosphere between them seemed tense to me.

"Elena, could you please come here? Please read this paragraph." Cindy summoned me, and I went to sit next to her.

When the plane finally touched down, the news that Jake and I had managed to patch things up in our relationship caused a media frenzy. At the airport, the photographers and the media swarmed around me, and there was such a rush that I could not keep my balance. Because of Silas' quick thinking, I didn't hit the ground. Instead, my body pressed up against his solid chest. My pulse skipped a beat as I got dangerously close to touching his lips, and the camera flash jolted me out of a stupor.
