The mystery

Silas - Pov

I stood in the infirmary as Letty’s parents and Yuri’s mother waited for the doctor. “Son-in-law,” said Maya’s mum.

“Mother,” I whispered. With a kind grin, she looked at me.

“Freya, we’re supposed to look after our daughter, so don’t talk to him,” Maya’s father, Terrace, said with disdain as he looked at me. When he found out about Maya’s death, he blamed me.

When the doctor came out of the emergency room, Terrance nervously inquired, “How is Letty doing?”

“How is my daughter Yuri?” Gabrielle inquired, worried.

“In critical condition, we are trying our best,” the doctor replied, motioning for me to see him in the cabin alone. So the situation is bad enough that he cannot go into more detail.

“Will our second daughter perish?” Freya wailed as Terrance tried to console her.

“Mom, I’ll make sure nothing bad happens to Letty,” I whisper, and she nods as she slowly stops her sobs, and Terrance leads her away for rest, not leaving without a dismissive glare. I consoled Gabrielle, who was weeping silently in the corner.

“Silas, please save Yuri. She is an only child and a hope in my life,” Gabrielle choked on her words. I know she fought to remain in the pack when her partner died and that Gabrielle reared Yuri with a single handle.

“Gabrielle, sip this coffee; I’ll be right back.” She nods as she settles into the chair, and I enter the doctor’s cabin.

“Alpha” Dr. Loyd had a serious look as he paused, looking at the door. I heard a footstep behind me. I knew it was Henry, the clan’s elderly chief.

“What did you call me for, Loyd?” Henry questioned firmly.

“I summon you here, chief, to report that the victims who are being treated are taking longer to recover because grey light struck them. This is magic that I have never seen, and it is not even a demon attack,” Doctor Loyd said with a tremble and sweat running down his forehead.

I could feel Henry’s eyes on me, and I knew he would reprimand me for abandoning the pack and going out into the human world, giving nobody prior warning.

“Dr.Loyd, you will have the herbs shortly. I need hourly updates on their health,” I remarked as I stepped out of his cabin.

“Silas, we need to talk,” Henry said, and several pack members in the hallway looked at us with concern.

“Henry, to my office; we won’t discuss it here,” I tried not to yell at him for causing a commotion. He gave me a scornful look as he walked away. The pack members in the foyer missed our short but hostile conflict.

I urged Gabrielle to relax at home as I convinced her Yuri would be fine, per Dr.Loyd. As I walked inside the Mansion, Henry was waiting for me.

“How reckless you’ve been behaving and leaving the pack on Yuri,” he hissed at me. I knew that speaking with Henry would cause yet another argument.

“My mate required help,” I murmured, wondering whether to refer to Elena as my mate, since it seemed like I wasn’t doing Maya fair.

“Silas, you’re hesitant to accept that human as your mate?” Henry said, arching his eyebrows.

“I’m still trying to figure things out,” I explained. He scoffed at my comment.

“Come on, Silas, reason here; she is human and cannot be a Luna. Why don’t you find another woman to mate with and produce an heir because you’re not getting any younger?” Henry said. His remarks enraged me, and Ray despised the fact that he was cursing this old hag in my brain.

“You have some balls to talk to me that way,” I retorted.

“Calm down, your wolf. I’m just thinking about what’s best for our pack. Even if you mate Elena, she won’t be able to survive giving birth to a wolf pup.” Henry’s comments carried a reason I felt a punch in the gut at rejecting Elena as my mate.

“Your stillness means you have a thought about my idea,” Henry said smugly.

“Weren’t you the one who suggested examining Elena if she is the late shifter? Why the change and pressuring me to mate with someone else?” I inquired.

“He didn’t recommend it. I did,” Emma’s voice appeared. She was a member of the elderly pack. With a hint of irritation, Henry added, “Emma is constantly trying to function differently.”

“Someone has to work differently. Everyone has the same concept won’t be good for the pack,” Emma snorted. Henry had held a rage as he stepped up, saying nothing.

“Silas, I suggest you watch your back and don’t listen to anybody except yourself,” Emma warned in a cryptic tone that was difficult to interpret.

“Bring that girl into our pack quickly. Don’t waste time,” Emma stated as she walked away. Mac hurried in, looking at Emma and then at me as if to ask about what happened to the elderly person visiting my mansion.

“How is Yuri?” he inquired. I discussed their medical condition and extended the paper to get the herbs.

“How did the auditions go?” I asked. Mac has a severe expression.

“What is it? Did Jake try to do something again?” I inquired.

“No, Elena has chosen a male protagonist, and that man is a supernatural being,” Mac said.

“What the fuck? Who is it?” I inquired in surprise.

“The last Dragon showed up, Drake Walker, to the auditions,” Mac sighed as he scrutinized my alarmed look.

“I’ll have to go back and remain near Elena,” I said quietly, feeling unnerved at the fact that the last dragon was approaching Elena.

“Did Elena cast Drake?” I inquired.

“She was persistent in taking him in, but I tried my best to push that dragon away, but he didn’t move at all. I feel he is up to something,” Mac continued, his voice concerned, making me apprehensive.
