Danger

Elena - POV

I felt optimistic that things were turning around and that filming would soon begin. This movie tells the story of an Alpha Wolf and a forbidden mate. People go crazy about movies like these, and we’ll make a killing at the box office.

Janice entered, examining my demeanor, her lips quirking upward. “Ms. Hayes, here is your black coffee.” Janice put the invitation card on my desk. It followed with the stunning, luxuriously wrapped hamper.

“Who is the sender?” I asked.

“This is an invitation to the gala, and Drake Walker sent this hamper,” Janice explained. As I turned my attention to the gift basket, I saw a bottle of vintage wine, some rare chocolates, and a handwritten note.

“Although it’s still early, I just had to share my excitement at being chosen and given the honor of working with you.” When I read his corny phrases, I couldn’t help but grin.

“Ms.Hayes, who will you attend the gala with, then?” Janice said warily.

“I would go alone.” I sighed as I sipped my coffee to push the frustration away.

“Ms. Hayes, the doctor will return a day after, so I have scheduled the first appointment,” Janice added, and my mood plummeted, and I could feel sorrow on Janice’s face for bringing it up.

“Thank you,” Janice says, nodding. My phone rings, and it’s Jake calling, so I hang up. I was in no mood to talk to the jerk.

It’s been late since I’ve been rehearsing my part in the rehearsal room. I sighed, feeling a pang of loneliness, but I pushed the emotion away, refusing to give in to sadness. After donning a hoodie and a mask, I went for a stroll while blending into the background. Except for me, everyone had left the office, and I strode out of the building onto the streets, which were bustling with people enjoying the nightlife.

I went into the convenience store to pick some munchies, and fortunately, my disguise allowed me to fit in with the crowd without drawing undue notice. It was a chilly night, and the wind brushed against my skin as I walked from building to building. Finally, I stopped in front of the orphanage where I had spent my formative years, and happy and painful memories flooded back. I took a step forward, thinking about paying a later visit to Sister Mary and the children.

“Is that you, Elena?” said sister Mary as she exited the taxi. I slid my mask off while maintaining a grin.

“Sister Mary,” I embraced her and assisted her with her bags. Once I entered the orphanage, after she demanded I remain for coffee and said she had something for me, I found the children in bed and greeted by the other nuns.

“Elena here,” Mary says as she hands me a cup of hot coffee. I sat awkwardly in my chair.

“You have been a kind person, Elena, still donating enormous donations to us,” I said hesitantly.

As I sipped my coffee, I inquired, “So what is it you want to give me?” Sister Mary summoned another sister to bring her something from her cabin, and after a few moments, the sister held an envelope that appeared to be ancient.

“Elena, we discovered a note left by your birth mother; your sisters were cleaning up when they discovered it.” My fingers shook as she presented me with the letter.

“Why didn’t you keep it secure and give it to me earlier?” I yelled at Sister Mary, who trembled at my abrupt outburst.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered. I exited the orphanage. My body shook as I hurried out of the orphanage and back to my house to read this letter. Sister Mary had never been in charge of the facility until this recent change.

“Elena,” Lyra said as she opened the door, and I dashed inside my room. Open the old letter carefully.

“Elena, I’m sorry for abandoning you. Unfortunately, I had no option in the matter. I pray to god for you to enjoy good health and a lot of happiness in life. You must despise me since I placed you in an orphanage, but please understand that I did this for your protection.”

- Your mother.

My eyes welled up with tears as I searched the letter for my mother’s name or an address, but the envelope merely said Elena.

“Elena, open the door; you’re scaring me,” Lyra’s anxious voice said, pulling her into an embrace and Lyra attempting to comfort me.

Bruno kisses my face as I sit on the couch as Lyra prepares something for me to eat. My mind was racing as I read the phrases, trying to identify what mum meant by “my safety.”

A door slammed open, and Bruno barked at the intruder. Lyra came to me, and I saw five guys dressed in black and masked covering them, showing their eyes, holding guns, and aiming at me.

“Elena Hayes, walk with us calmly or else.” He leveled his rifle toward Lyra and cocked it, preparing to shoot her.

“I’ll go with you,” I said calmly as she urged me to move. The second guy pushed a code to activate a secret entrance to my apartment, and I wondered how the fuck they knew about this spot. Lyra’s eyes met mine, and I could see the exact query reflected there. Bruno gripped the intruder’s leg as the man tried to shake him off, hoping to prevent him from going.

“Back off,” the invader snarled at Bruno. But Bruno didn’t budge when he was told to. I see the rifle being cocked at Bruno to kill him.

“Please don’t hurt my dog, Burno; back off now,” I said, and Burno stared at me as he let go of the intruder’s leg, and my attention focused on the intruder, whose eyes were only visible because of the mask he wore. I sighed in relief internally as he tucked the revolver in the back of his jeans. We took the elevator to the rear of the main building, where a black van was waiting for us; the man inside slapped face masks on Lyra and me and shoved us into the vehicle.

Silas - POV

"Are you going?" Letty said as I handed her a drink of water. I nodded to Letty, and she looked sorrowfully at me. As I brushed her hair, she smiled at me. After Maya passed away, I took care of Letty as a sister would. Maya had always been protective of Letty and concerned about her.

"Take care of Elena and keep Jake away from her," Letty urged with a grin. I glanced away, not understanding why I was so concerned about Elena's well-being when all I wanted to do was reject her and get out of her hair, so she didn't get hurt and depart peacefully with someone else who deserved better.

"Silas, are you all right?" I jolted up when I heard Letty's voice.

"Take care, Letty, and let me know if you recall the assailant's face or name. Anything that comes to mind.

"She gives a brief nod. Yuri is still in a severe condition, since she has more bruises and wounds than Letty. Before I returned to Human City, I asked Mac to enhance the pack security to the maximum level. I returned to the human realm to fix Elena's troubles and finally leave her existence. I'm intrigued by Emma's request that I introduce Elena to the Pack.

"You're not giving our mate the benefit of the doubt that she may be a late shifter. What if she is a late shifter and discovers her wolf? It would be dangerous for her to stay among humans without instructions," Ray tried to argue with me.

"Fine," I grumbled. "I'll bring her to the pack to put her skills to the test." As Ray yelled at me to accept Elena as my mate, I turned on the radio to listen to music, since I couldn't tolerate his trash talk. I returned to the building and noticed that the security guards were unconscious. I sprayed water on the guard's face to wake him up, and the guard stirred and came to consciousness.

"Who," the guard murmured, blinking his eyes, attempting to examine, and as he remembered, I am the resident of the building.

"Call the cops," the guard replied, terrified.

"What happened?" I inquired, hoping to calm him down.

"Intruders came in to apprehend Ms. Elena Hayes." The security guard spoke with panic in his eyes. My body trembled as I dashed up the stairs to reach her penthouse at a breakneck pace. Bruno ran towards me as the door shattered.

"You arrived late," Bruno grumbled.

"Where is Elena?" I yelled in response to his mockery.

Bruno hissed, "abducted."

As the flash of Maya lying lifeless and lifeless in her mother's arms played, I felt terror, causing my heart to race and beat quickly. What if I lost Elena too? I stood stuck in place, unsure of what to do.
