The plot thickens

Mac - POV

Where the heck did those witches disappear from, anyway? The woodland is where they stay. The town appeared deserted. I sniffed the air around me and discovered the scent of a single witch. Following the trail, I came to an old, craggy cottage.

After partially opening the door, I cautiously approached it and entered the room. “Who are you?” An elderly witch inquired.

“I’m from Silver Canine’s pack. My Alpha needs help,” I remarked, gazing at the woman who appeared frail and doubted her ability to assist. “By the way, where have all the witches gone?”

“The Dark Angel’s warning sign scared everyone,” she whispered.

“I’m sorry. Who are they? I’ve never heard of them,” I said.

“Please take a seat,” she instructed, and I did so.

“If all the other witches left the town, why didn’t you?” I inquired. She smiled at my inquisitiveness.

“The Dark Angel guys don’t frighten me,” the elderly witch said as she poured me a cup of tea. “How do I address you?”

“Mac Coates,”

“My name is Emily. By the way, why are you here?” she inquired. I told her about Jake and showed her the locket. Emily’s expression changed to one of shock.

“Did you know about this locket?” I inquired. The woman gave a slight nod.

“I saw these lockets on these Dark Angel crew members,” she explained.

“Mind telling me what they are?” I asked impatiently in response to her statements.

“These are a group of guys known as Dark Angels. It expelled these angels from Paradise,” I joked, a perspective that felt so fictitious. When her icy gaze met mine, I quickly suppressed my chuckle.

“You think I’m joking?” she snarled at me.

“I apologize. Such abilities boggled my mind.”

“If shifters, witches, Vampires, Warlocks, Fae, and other mythical creatures exist, why is it so difficult to believe the other power can exist as well?” she hissed.

“Right, those Angels of the Dark. What was with scaring the witches, anyway?” I asked.

“You didn’t see how much more powerful their magic is, and they specifically instructed the witches not to assist the Silver Canines. The Witches understood that if they didn’t support your pack, Alpha Silas would murder them, and if they didn’t obey Dark Angel’s commands, they would get killed, so they fled.” Emily expressed her displeasure.

“I presume you’re not afraid of Dark Angel but of my Alpha,” I inquired. She locked her gaze on me.

“I have no fear of your Alpha or any other Dark Angel. I have nothing to lose at this point.” She said this witch was aiding us because she was choosing a fight with dark angels, and I could tell she was looking for excitement in her life.

“I guess you’ll assist us then,” she grinned and confirmed with a nod. I showed her Jake’s photo.

“He’s a Dark Angels member. He’d arrived a week before with his crew.” Stunned, I rose from my chair. Then Jake is not a warlock but a dark angel; since this Emily claims they are more powerful than even witches, how could Alpha Silas knock Jake out with such little effort? I have no doubts about Alpha Silas’ power, but something about Jake seems off.

I told the Witch everything about Jake and Alpha Silas’ fight. She seemed distressed. “They’re up to no good. Mac, can you take me to your Pack so I can help your Alpha?”

I wondered for a moment if bringing Emily with me was a good idea; I wasn’t sure, but I thought she might help us solve the mystery. The guards were dead on the ground when I arrived at the Pack. I dashed over to Yuri, covering her with my jacket.

“Yuri... Yuri!”

“Let me heal her,” Emily said, and Yuri regained consciousness after Yuri’s bruise healed.

“Mac….” Yuri mumbled, but her eyes widened as she regained her senses.

“Jake eluded the Pack; he is not a Warlock. He is not what one would expect.” Yuri mumbled.

“I’ll contact the Alpha as soon as possible,” I said.

Silas - POV

After dropping Elena and Janice off at the shooting location, I drove faster. I heard Jake had gotten away after murdering several of my guys and hurting my beta. I looked at the Pack elders, Yuri, Mac, and the witch as they waited for me. The scene in my territory appeared gruesome, with my guards’ deaths appearing so violent that their body parts had been severed.

“What do you have to say regarding the killings of guards, Silas?” Henry hissed. “Your Beta and Omega say nothing about what happened here.”

“I’ll handle it; I suggest you step back,” I said calmly.

“You are Alpha and have no answer to this mess.”

“I do, but you forget I’m the Pack Alpha. If you dare to question me, I will ensure you have no power to question me next time.” Henry balked when I snapped. Emma stood calmly examining me before leaving, as did Henry, not without frowning at me.

Yuri, Mac, and the witch followed me to the Mansion. I cast magic to keep the voice from leaving the room.

“Mac, take the witch to the other chamber. I need to talk with Yuri alone.” I said this, and Mac and the Witch walked out.

“Explain yourself, Yuri.”

“Alpha, I viewed the video on Jake’s phone and saw three men. One of them was Jake, who abused Elena and Lyra so viciously; the pained screams rocked mother and me, and what was astonishing was Elena Healed from the Bruise, which normal humans couldn’t heal but could die from such wounds. Lyra died because of her injuries.” Yuri choked on his voice. “I went to check on Jake, but he used such powerful magic that fighting him with our wolf was pointless. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to keep the guards safe.”

I regret not killing Jake back in the hotel suite. Hearing my partner, who had to put up with such things, and how long she had endured, I could listen to Ray’s energy roaring in my brain, and I could feel my anger and agony. Elena has no recollection of the traumatic events.

“Alpha, they continued questioning Elena about the Key of Paradise,” Yuri added. I requested Yuri to share the video, and I plan to use asked Jake. This will help Elena securely in the human world. I won’t let Jake and his guys go quietly. I will execute Jake and his men.

“Bring Mac and the witch in,” I said to Yuri.

Mac explained why he brought the witch Emily; she explained the concept of Dark Angels and how they exist, and she wanted to scare the witches away from assisting my Pack.

“What kind of power do these individuals wield?”

“They can battle in all magical elements; they can walk in ghost form and soar in the air. These guys are our pack four, but they’re strong enough to kill battalions of people. They killed witches to make the statement, not to help your Pack or inform them of their existence.”

“Why are you assisting? And what do you require?”

“I want nothing more than for these monsters to be gone for everyone’s peace,” Emily explained.

Elena - POV

I’m not sure how I got back to the hotel suite. Bruno wagged his tail at me as he sprang onto my lap and perched on my lap, his anxious eyes fixed on me. While I tried to process what Doctor Rudolf had said, I petted Bruno.

Janice handed me a little packet of food. I ate while still immersed in my feelings. Janice gave me the pills.

“Will you be okay, Ms. Hayes?” Janice inquired.

“I’ll be fine; I wish Lyra were here,” I lamented.

“I’m sorry this is happening to you, but please don’t give up hope. There is still a chance of recovery,” Janice said, giving me hope and reminding me not to lose hope.

“Ms. Hayes, the cop, is looking for Lyra; they’ll find her soon,” Janice remarked. I nodded, and Janice remained in my suite for the time being.

I switched on the television to watch an old classic film, and Janice requested popcorn from room service. News is the first channel to appear. The headlines stated, “Jake Smith has been gone for almost 24 hours. Jake’s team stated he came to meet me, and the officers would question me.”

“What the fuck?” I exclaimed.

“Janice, get my attorneys ready.” Janice dialed the phone number rapidly. When I heard a knock on the door, I opened it to see the police. Our investigation requires us to take you into custody, Ms. Elena Hayes. You may remain silent. Anything you say will be admissible as evidence against you in court. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot pay an attorney, we will give one to you.” The officer said this while she was handcuffing my wrist like a prisoner.

The day began on such a high note, and by the time it ended, I was at my lowest point. Despite this, I knew I had to be stronger because I felt that the onslaught of problems had just begun, with the camera and reports crowding in.

Silas rushes to me, attempting to talk with the officer, who denies his request. The officer drove me into a police car.

“My name is Ted Lawrence. I’m the commanding officer.” He stated this while sitting opposite me and the glass panes surrounding me, the cold steel chair still shackled.

As they forced me to sit on the cold steel chair, I experienced déjà vu, and a foggy vision surfaced, and Lyra spoke quietly beside me.

“Are you all right, Ms. Hayes?” The officer inquired, and I blinked to see the officer’s Ted green eyes staring at me coldly.

“I am,” I whispered.

“Last time Jake came to meet you, the hotel staff confirmed you were supposed to go on a date, and you ditched him. Right after that, Jake went missing,” Ted asked.

“Well, Jake came to meet me, and the last time I saw him was in the morning when He invited me to go out for dinner, and you must know I didn’t see him after that, and I was on a date with Silas Ford,” I explained confidently.

“We know that what makes us suspect you had a hand in Jake Smith’s disappearance is that one of the cleaning staff noted your room was disorderly in the middle of the night, and someone requested to arrange your room where they located Jake’s broken piece of the locket.” When Ted showed me the broken wing locket, I immediately recognized it belonged to Jake.

“I was in Silas’ room after the dinner date, so I don’t know who asked the staff to organize my room, and did the staff confirm seeing me?” I inquired.

“Ms. Hayes, you know I’m interrogating you, not the other way around,” Ted grumbled.

“Officer Ted, Ms. Hayes’s lawyer, had arrived. “We can’t question her much longer,” the cop said through the door frame. Ted’s expression was annoyed, and after a few minutes, my lawyer, Saif, entered, and the police removed the handcuffs from me. I stepped out of the interrogation room, massaging my wrist. Silas is glaring at Ted.

“What exactly is going on?” Silas stared at me when I asked.

“They didn’t have good enough evidence to arrest you for questioning in the first place,” Silas grumbled. “I’ve ensured they don’t touch you again until everything is legalized.”

“Wait, didn’t my lawyer assist me in getting out?” I inquired. I looked at Saif, who appeared embarrassed.

“I believe you know the answer,” Silas murmured as his arms came over my shoulder, and I realized I was shivering from the cold. When the media came back at me with hostile questions, I didn’t distance myself from Silas because I needed Silas’s support. I hate to admit it.

Silas ensured that security assisted us in returning to our hotel suite. “I’m not sure how Jake disappeared. Is he going after me again?” I snarled. Drake and Janice entered Silas’ room because their room was a suspected crime scene.

“I’ll locate Jake. Don’t worry about it, and concentrate on the shoot,” Silas said confidently.

“How will you track him down? You are not a police officer,” I inquired.

“I have my methods, Elena,” she says. He looked at Drake, and his eyes spoke so quietly that I couldn’t understand what was happening.

“I will not stand on the sidelines. Silas, I’ll help you.”

“I can’t put you in danger,” Silas said, halting his statement.

“Danger, what are you talking about? Why are you so opposed to me assisting you?” I snapped.

“Elena, I guess what Silas means is that you’re not getting engaged because you’re the suspect in Jake’s missing case, and that may be an issue for you,” Drake explained. His statements were correct, but what astonished me the other day was that Drake was arguing with Silas and siding with Silas. I’ll play along with Drake and Silas and pretend not to be involved in Jake’s case. The mystery is puzzling me, and I can’t sit quietly anymore.
