Danger in Disguise

Elena - POV

It was hard to deny Silas's presence and my grief whenever I looked up and saw him standing close to Letty. After all the people meeting and greeting, Drake and I stepped onto the balcony for fresh air.

"Elena, I have to confess," Drake remarked abruptly, his face serious. I braced myself now, even drake, as some hidden secrets. Also, why does he want to divulge something to me?

"I am not an actor who is having trouble making ends meet. To be honest, I am an entrepreneur. I lied just to try out for an acting opportunity."

"Oh! Drake, I don't understand why you're telling me this. If I gave the idea that I judged individuals based on their social standing, I apologize." I sipped my champagne.

" That is not the reason. I want to speak the truth before you learn the truth from someone else because I can't make you upset and I can't afford to lose your trust," Drake said with sincerity. His words made my heart skip a beat.

"Thank you, Drake, for caring so much about me. Some individuals I'm close to don't even bother with me and continually betray me." I didn't want to say more, held my tongue out of spite.

"I am sorry for what happened to you. Why don't we dance here?" I gazed at Drake's outstretched hand.

"There isn't any music. We should go inside and dance."

"Here," Drake said, playing music on his phone. I chuckled as I placed my hand in his.

"Ms. Elena, here you are," Janice remarked, staring at my hand attached to Drake's. Drake's eyes twitched with displeasure as he looked at Janice.

"What exactly is it, Janice?" Drake inquired.

"Mr. Silas is looking for Ms. Hayes," Janice explained.

"Please notify him I will meet him in five minutes," I said. Janice nodded and walked away, giving Drake a covert scowl.

"I don't think we'll be able to catch our breath," Drake hissed.

"Drake, let us dance," I replied, since I didn't want to see Silas, and why should I? Drake smirked as his palm went around my waist.

"Elena." The demanding voice made me jump. I turned to find Silas frowning at Drake, whose hands were on my back as Silas took a step closer to us. Why is my heart racing when I see Silas so close?

"Drake, let go of Elena's hand."

"I won't until Elena says so." Drake hissed.

I didn't think about it, but I curled my fingers around Drake's arm. A jealous gleam appeared in Silas's eyes. I didn't care what Silas thought, since he dared to express affection and kiss me while he already had someone else in his life.

"You want to speak with me, Mr. Ford, go ahead," I responded in a collected tone.

"I need to speak with you alone," Silas responded, his eyes blazing with bitterness.

"Drake, can you wait for me inside? Please," I begged. Drake stared at me, but the wrath I saw in his eyes before seemed to fade at that instant. Silas shoots Drake a dirty look before leaving the balcony.

I try to keep a safe distance from Silas, trying not to be tempted by his handsome looks. God, he was smoking hot in that black tux.

Get your act together, Elena; this jerk only plays with my emotions.

"Would you simply keep gazing or speak up?"

"I'm trying to express myself, but..." It made me feel tingly as he stopped and peered at me from head to toe.

"So, you've come here to say you're sorry you kept it a secret that you had a girlfriend." I snarled.

"To put the pack and the elders off of me, Letty is pretending to be a Luna. You are my real mate and Luna." Silas spoke.

"How come you're lying, Silas?" You want to sleep with me because you believe I'm a simple target?" I snapped at him.

"Stop talking gibberish! Elena, you are my partner. I have no intention of taking advantage of you."

"You are a liar because I have met men who are just like you. I should have seen it coming." I tried not to weep.

"I am not making this up, Elena; you don't know how significant the fated mate is for a Wolf Alpha, or how powerful the connection between them is. You have no clue how hard I strive to get away from you. Put my deceased mate's commitment aside to come to the term to accept you as my mate and you wish to draw away from me." Silas lost his cool, and as I stood there in disbelief at his admission, Silas rubbed the bridge of his head as if to express his regret at having spoken more than he ought to have.

"Dead mate?" I inquired.

"Don't bring it up, Elena; I'm here to see whether you're certain about rejecting me as your mate." Please think about it." Silas asked in a plea.

"I'm still not sure why you're asking me this. When you have a letty on your side."

"I told you Letty is currently acting as Fake Luna," Silas sighed, annoyed.

"Whatever, Silas, I am so weary of the drama," I sighed, feeling even more down as I became dizzy and my legs shook. Oh sh*t, I shouldn't have had any drink when I was on my medication.

I make a blunder. Ugh, I'm going to fall on my face; Silas caught my waist as I slammed into his solid chest. Damn, his reflexes saved me. I could hear his heart beating faster, just like mine did, and the growing heat between us made me feel like a warm summer night rather than a freezing winter one.

Silas's eyes settled on me, his fingers stroking my face as I leaned into his touch, which soothed the grief I was attempting to bear and ignore. What's with my Silas obsession? I felt annoyed by how I acted, like a young girl who flushes when she sees her crush.

I drew away from him, but my form pressed into Silas's. "Elena, I worry about you. You'll receive a rejection tomorrow if that is what you want. Simply put, I want nothing bad to happen to you. Therefore, I'm going to remain around and maintain my distance from you. Also, don't compare me to your pitiful ex-fiance," Silas said as he walked away. I missed the warmth that created a pleasant atmosphere for me, the icy wind, and his words, which left me alone on the frigid balcony.

Silas slowed his steps before departing and turned to face me as he walked back to me, putting on his coat and leaving like the wind.

My phone rang, and the caller ID showed it was officer Naver. I took the call. "Ms. Hayes, we discovered a corpse that matched Ms. Lyra's description. Please come to the morgue to identify the corpse."

"Yes, officer," I mumbled. However, my legs gave out as I sat on the cold ground. I have to travel to New York. After going through the other exit, I called the driver's number to request a ride. I contacted Janice to book a flight, although she questioned me, and I lied to Janice by saying I had personal work.

The driver driving me to the airport, but I had the impression he had taken a detour. "Where are you taking me?"

"To a secure location, Eliz." His voice terrified me. Jake disguised as my driver.
