Wolfland

Silas - POV

“Why has our mate reconciled with a jerk who mistreated her?” As I made myself comfortable in my hotel suite, Ray questioned me.

“It’s up to Elena, Ray. I can’t force her to stop seeing Jake since it’s her decision.”

“How will you show her you are the man she deserves to be with?” Ray argued his point with me.

“I don’t want to show anything to Elena; I can’t move on from my memories of Maya, and I promised Maya that I would remain faithful until the very end of my life. You promised her the wolf, too,” I yelled. At the mention of the Maya wolf Yota, Ray was silent.

“But they’re no longer alive, Silas. Yes, I know it’s tough to let go of Maya and Yota, but do you want our second mate to endure pain just because of your inability to let go of Maya?” I breathed sharply. The memory of Elena being injured in the warehouse came to my mind, and I had the unshakeable conviction that I could not bear to think of her in any distress.

I know one thing I wouldn’t allow Elena to stay next to Jake, that jerk danger, and I’d also monitor this Drake person. After getting dressed, I went searching for Elena’s assistant.

“Mr. Ford.” Janice seemed a little taken aback when she answered the door.

“May I come in?” I asked, she nodding and letting me in.

“I overheard you and Elena talking about Jake, and I heard you were upset about Elena’s decision,” I said, as she stared at me, still unsure where I was going with this topic.

“I don’t want Elena to be with Jake. He’s dangerous,” I declared. Janice’s pupils dilate in surprise.

“What do you mean?” she inquired.

“Well, I saw Jake leave the warehouse, and then I saw Elena in such a bruised state,” I told her, lying. I can’t tell her that my shifter nose detected Jake’s scent in the warehouse. Janice glanced at me in disbelief as she let out a gasp.

“Why didn’t you alert the police?” Janice inquired.

“Because I didn’t have any evidence to support my claim, even when I contacted the police, I saw Jake at the warehouse. The authorities would have questioned him and set Jake free with no evidence; this would have alerted Jake, and he may have found more methods to mistreat Elena.” Janice glanced at me, believing my deception, and Janice cared for Elena, her expression filled with anxiety.

“But why are you coming to me with such information?” Instead, notify Ms. Hayes,” Janice inquired.

“Elena is already suffering from her traumatic experiences, and if I said things like that, it would just make things worse for her. I came to you because you need to keep Elena away from Jake. Also, propagate a story about Elena and my relationship to the media.” Janice glanced at me as if she was questioning my motivations and whether what I was saying was for Elena’s benefit.

“So you want to cast doubt on Jake’s mind with this story and try to separate Jake from Elena, right? Mr. Ford, do you have any ulterior motives?” Janice inquired.

“I need to help Elena because I can’t stand by and let an abusive man walk free.” I’m gathering evidence against Jake. If you care about Elena’s well-being, you can assist me, or I will do it my way.” I said. What I meant was the truth. I can’t tolerate it when someone touches my mate and hurts her. Though every fiber in my body wants to tear Jake into the human realm, things function differently, and I can’t let my animal side take control just yet.

“Mr. Ford, I’m here to help you; I’ve always had a hunch that Mr. Smith is not the right man for Ms. Hayes. She treats her employees like family and is always pleasant to work for her. After Mr. Smith came into her life, Ms. Hayes was not always herself,” Janice continued, staring off into the horizon.

“What do you mean, she changed?” I inquired, curious and worried. Janice breaks out of her stupor and then stares in my direction.

“It’s not the first time, Mr. Smith cheated on her, and Ms. Hayes found him with another mistress before she got engaged, but she met with accidental skiing and lost her memory of that night of Mr. Smith cheating on her. Even though I told her the truth, she didn’t believe me, and I had no proof. I should have suspected Mr.Smith was planning to hurt her.” Janice murmured, on the edge of shedding a tear, and I balled my fist. I only know how difficult it was for me not to murder Jake by tormenting him until he died from the misery he inflicted on Elena.

“Janice, we must imprison Jake for what he has done with evidence. So go to work and keep me updated on Jake’s.” I gave Janice my personal phone number, and she nodded firmly.

“Mr. Ford, I have one additional concern. Ms.Lyra has gone missing. Do you have any information on her?” Janice inquired.

“No, I know nothing about her,” I said. Since I figured she was dead after witnessing so much blood. Logically, they would have eliminated her since they perceived her as a threat.

“Thank you for sticking up for Ms. Hayes. Mr. Ford. Ms. Hayes doesn’t have many people that care about her.” Janice’s remarks were actual, and I observed Elena was a lone she-wolf confronting the world.

I left her room and went back into the hallway. I knew Elena would be there today, so I set foot to find her to accompany her to Wolf Land for the test. I could smell Drake’s dragon scent before knocking, showing that he was in Elena’s chamber. Once we return from Wolfland, I’ll need to talk to Dagron and gather the facts.

Elena opened the door to me with a surprised expression, and as I looked around the room, my eyes settled on Drake, who was relaxing on the couch. “Silas, do you need anything?” Elena’s chilly voice jolted me out of my jealous trance.

“Knock this dragon down. The nerve of him to be so near to our mate!” Ray snarled furiously.

“Drake, do you mind leaving? I need to talk to Elena alone” Drake nodded, but I could see he was just as annoyed by my presence as I was. Drake departed after a few minutes of walking. “Elena, I need you to come to Wolf Land today,” I said, wondering how to approach her when I was present. I need help with thinking clearly.

“Are you giving me orders?” As Elena’s voice came in fuming.

“Silas, you pissed Elena off.” I hissed at myself.

“No, I’m not giving any orders. A mishap happened to Yuri, and she asked me to make sure you come to check on her in Wolfland”, I said. I was cursing myself for giving her a bizarre reason to convince Elena to take her to Wolfland.

“What happened to Yuri, and you’re telling me now? Of certainly, if you don’t mind,” Elena said.

“I don’t have an issue,” I said. I mind-linked Mac to alert Yuri and the elder pack of our arrival, relieved that she had traveled to Wolf Land.

“OK, I’ll go fetch the purse.” Elena hurried to grab her belongings, and Bruno frowned at me. Elena left Bruno in the hands of Janice as we drove to Wolf Land in my car. Seeing Elena sitting quietly, her eyes closed, with the breeze touching her skin and hair strands blowing and sunset rays stressing her attractiveness, it was difficult to resist her beauty. I glanced at her, still keeping my eyes on the road. Still, I wanted to pull over and marvel at her form.

“Why are you staring at me?” Elena stated with her eyes closed. My focus shifts to the road ahead of me. I didn’t respond, and she opened her eyes and raised an eyebrow at me.

“We’re here,” I said to the security officers and elder Pack, standing at the entryway with Mac. Elena seemed surprised that others were present.
