Chapter 105
(Maya POV)
It was subtle and light but it was there. My power was pulsing back to life, slowly as I accepted my true self. I had not lost my power, I had locked it away out of fear. Now I was not afraid, I was more sure than I had. I could feel its full strength or even let it rise, but it was there sparking my body back to life.
“Maya if this was all because of the boy, then I think it is a big overreaction.” Tommy said pulling back from my realization.
I looked him straight in the eye. “No and I will be taking him with me, because he deserves a real home. Not one in a pack who would look down on him, not here when his own alpha would not choose to give him a second chance.”
I almost wanted to laugh at the shock in his face, but I wasn’t backing down. Our discussion about the boy had broken the damn and I was releasing hell in my wake.
“Maya, you want to leave us?” Eli asks Bentley and I turn to see the hurt in his eyes.
“Eli I am trying to do what’s right, and staying here is not where I belong. I don’t belong to anyone like a possession to be placed on a pedestal but with no voice of my own. I need to be more, and I love you all with everything in me and I want you beside me but I will not force you.”
Thomas and Isaiah come down the stairs as I say this and Thomas gives me a nod and looks to his mate brothers.
“We knew this was Maya’s calling and we have fallen into a comfortable position of letting her be lost in her fear and doubts. She is rising to her true self and we can not stay in her way.” He says stepping down and Isaiah walks to me.
I give the others a glance before turning to Thomas. “Take him, and the alpha will give us permission to take him with us.”
Tommy growls in frustration. “I am Alpha of this pack!”
I turn to him ad shake my head. “Your are not alpha yet, and I know your father well enough to know he will do anything to avoid conflict.”
“This is insane Maya!” He yells at me as his body trembles.
He was starting to lose control, but I wasn’t afraid and I wouldn’t back down.
Thomas took Isaiah from me and led him to the door. “I will meet you soon.” Then he opened the door and walked out.
I turn to my remaining mates. “Like I said, I will welcome any of you who wish to go with me but I must go.”
I grab the bag I left by the stairs and make my way to the door.
“Wait!” I hear Eli yell from behind me. “I’m going with you.”
I knew why he wanted to come, his family had made him and outsider since he was young. Tommy had taken him in as a brother but this pack was no more a home than it was to me. He didn’t bother to rush upstairs for any of his things, instead he stepped beside me and took my hand.
“I am yours no matter where we go.” He said softly and I let out a shaky breath.
As much as was trying to stand my ground and it o a front of strength and determination, leaving any of my mates behind was going to break my heart in more ways than one. I hadn’t researched much on the mating bond but from what I did know, we could survive apart, but it wasn’t exactly an enjoyable experience. We could sever the bond with difficulty and sometimes resulted in death, so that would be a last resort in our case. I didn’t want to break the bond, so that choice would have to be theirs.
I took one last look over my shoulder and caught a quick glance at Noah and I could see the conflict in his face. He was loyal to Tommy as his beta and it was not easy to step away from someone he swore his loyalty to. I didn’t blame him but I gave him a soft smile before walking out the door with Eli beside me.
When we stepped outside I saw Thomas and Isaiah standing by the car waiting. I couldn’t help the smile that came to my face when Isaiah rushed to me.
He looked up at me in pure happiness. “Where are going…mom?”
I swear my heart burst and I lifted him up and held him tight to my chest. Who knew this was the thing I needed most, someone who was like me finding something I never could. He had a mom and two new dads who would love him fiercely, and he would never want for anything ever again. I kept him close as we walked to the car and I climbed into the back seat with him and my two remaining mates took the front seat.
“Where to baby?” Eli asked glancing back at me.
“Home.” I say and Thomas pulls the car away from the house I had never thought I would leave.
(Noah POV)
My heart ached as I watched the love of my life walk out the door without me. As much as I was wanting to run after her and leave everything behind I needed to stay and knock some sense to my friend and brother. He was being an idiot and he was about to hear every bit of my thoughts on the matter. Maya was right, he had let the expectations of the pack warp his mind into a robotic version of himself. I knew the stress had started getting to him, and he wanted to ease the pain by keeping our people happy, but that very thing was what nearly killed his father. Our Alpha took care of the pack by being safe, not fighting unless a absolutely necessary. I had thought things had changed when he took our warriors to bring Maya back to us, but it was short lived when the pack spoke against my mate.
They hated the idea of my girl standing as Luna with so many men by her side. It was unheard of in this world, and they didn’t care that she had no choice in the matter.
“What the hell are you thinking man? You realize our mate just walked away from all of this thanks to the very people you want to lead. This pack needs an alpha to lead them not bow to their whines or have you not seen the cracks that have already formed? I asked Tommy as he began to pace furiously.
“What will you have me do? She is asking me to leave our pack behind and take off with her! Who will take care of the pack if I’m gone?” He yelled back at me.
“They are forcing you into thoughts and actions that are not your own. They don’t respect you, and because of that you and your father have given them power over you! Can’t you see that our pack is falling apart because their alphas are too weak to put them in line?” I growled out.
I was loyal to my friend but Maya was right, this pack was a mess and it was going to take a firm hand to get them in line. Before I could say as much, Tommy slugged me in the face and I stumbled back a little.
“I am not weak! My father was the greatest alpha our pack has ever had!” Tommy said throwing another punch that I dodged in time to send him falling to the ground.
He was throwing punches out of pure emotion and those were weak.
“Your father gave up our mate to protect our pack, and they pushed him by their wants and needs almost to his death! Are you wanting to be just like him? That is not a life, it’s an early death sentence.” I said standing over him.
He stands and bushes me back. “My mate was weak! She is just running away AGAIN!”
That was it. I punched him hard in the face and kicked him swiftly in his stomach until he fell to the ground.
“She is not weak and you know it! She lost everything and gave up to live here with us. Her uncle sits on a throne that should be her’s but she came here with us. She lost everything when she killed those Fae and her powers were lost. She was trying to latch on to something remotely normal and you denied her such a simple request that proved to her how helpless she was in our world. You drove her away!” My wolf was nearing the surface wanting to tear apart the man who drove my mate away from us.
I had never felt the need to tear my friend apart until today, and I was inclined to but there was a lot of work to be done. I had a plan that was going to not only save us from the misery of losing our mate again, but would lay the world at her feet.
