Chapter 96
( Maya POV)
I was standing in a forest, sounds of water and birds filling the air and I squinted in the bright light of the sun overhead. I did not recognize the place but for some reason it felt familiar. A sound from the side of me makes me turn my head quicky to try and catch a glimpse at what was hiding in the brush. Before I could take a step forward to investigate a low rumble vibrated along the ground. Out from the bushes came a large wolf, one I remembered from my dreams. With his different colored eyes looking at me with such intensity that it mad my body grow still, and making it difficult to turn and run away.
The wolf must have sensed my fear because his whole body softens and he sits in front of me, ears perked up and head slightly tilted. If not for his mere size I would have joked that he looked a lot like a house pet, but this was not ordinary dog. He was a wild thing, and yet even though I felt a slight once of fear it was not of him. It was the fact that he seemed confused by me, even though we had met before in my dreams. He must have realized there was something different about me now that I was ordinary.
I had no powers, and I couldn’t shift.
“It’s ok Maya, don’t be afraid.” I heard a voice in my head say.
Freddie?
“It’s me Maya. This is how I used to try and talk to you when I didn’t know where you were. I would try to reach out to you through what remained of our bond as wolves and twins. I guess you didn’t understand because you would see me in your dreams, but it really is me. You’re resting now, but we will speak in person soon.”
“What happened? D-did…A-am I dead?” I ask him.
Freddie’s wolf huffs and shakes his head. “Not yet sister, and I hope not any time soon. Your mates saved you and got you out of the Fae world. I am here with our uncle, and he is already taking on the role as temporary leader of the Fae. I don’t know what his motives or plans form here are, but remember you are the one meant to lead. Your powers were not the only reason you were the chosen one. Its within you to be a great leader Maya, you just have to see it and in time you will. I will come see you soon, but for now enjoy the peace and quiet!”
“Wait if it had been you all those times that I had seen in my dreams, then who was the wolf you protected me from in those dreams all those months ago?” I ask.
“That was our father. It seemed he had a similar idea as me, but I did whatever I could to keep him out of your head. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to protect you in person, but I am with you now. Whenever you need me, I will be there! I have to go now, but sis stay safe! I love you!”
A calm washed over me, and I could feel the soreness of my body as I began to wake.
“I think she’s waking up!” I hear a muffled voice say.
“Thank god!” Another voice added.
“I’ll get her some water…”
I opened my eyes slightly but quickly closed them again with the light from the morning sun a little too aggressive.
“Hey, take your time.” Someone says rubbing my back gently.
I tried to speak but my voice was silent, so I cleared it and tried once more.
“How long have I been asleep?” I ask with a hoarse voice.
“A week.” I hear Thomas say.
Someone helps me sit up, but my eyes are still barely open, and my muscles are all sore and weak.
“A week? How could I have been asleep for a week?” I ask in disbelief.
“Your body went through a lot, and it took longer for you to recover now that…you know things have changed.” Tommy says cautiously.
“Here drink this.” Eli says handing me a glass of cool water that I happily accept and drink quickly.
“Thank you.” I say to him with a soft smile.
My eyes had adjusted by now and I could see the worry in his features, as if he had been furrowing his brows in concern for years.
“I’m ok.” I tell him and he lets out a shaky breath before walking quickly toward me and wrapping his arms around me.
“I was so scared that we lost you.” He whispers to me.
“I’m so sorry…” Is all I can think of to say.
He pulls away slightly just enough to place his lips on mine.
“Don’t ever scare us like that again, ok?” He says when our lips finally part.
“Never again.” I promise him with a small and a quick kiss.
He holds me tight for a moment longer before letting me go and stepping away to allow someone else to take his place.
“Come here you!” tommy says rushing up to me and picking me up into his arms, my feet dangling just above the ground.
This made me laugh and I happily hugged him back.
“I love you so so much!” He whispers to me before nuzzling his nose into my neck and breathing in deeply.
“I love you too.” I whisper back and rest my head against his shoulder.
He then takes a step back and Noah takes his place, but he does not rush toward me like the others. His movements are hesitant, and his touch is soft like he is afraid he will break me.
“Are you feeling ok?” He asks, his voice small and gentle.
I smile at him and walk forward so that he is close enough to hug me, and I wrap my arms around his waist.
“I am better now that I can hold you.” I mumble into his chest.
He lets out a small laugh before giving in and wrapping his arms tight around me.
“I am so glad you are ok; I was so scared.” He says, his voice shaky.
“I’m sorry that I scared you, but you can’t get rid of me just yet.” I say teasingly.
His head shakes against mine. “No, I never want to get rid of you. I will hold on to you even tighter now, I hope you understand how clingy I will be from now on!”
Noah being clingy would be new, but very much welcomed. After everything, I wanted to be held by my mates for a long as they would want me. We had a lot of time to make up for, and I would enjoy every second of it!
He stepped back and Thomas stepped forward, with his grace and poise still in full force. I was used to his more reserved nature and didn’t push him to hug me like the others, but I offered him my softest smile.
“Hey you.” I say holding out my hand to him.
“Hi. I am glad you are awake.” He says taking my hand and stepping closer.
“Yeah? Did you miss me?” I ask him teasingly.
“Very much.” He says tightening his hold on my hand.
He smiled just a bit and leaned toward me so that his forehead met mine.
“Thomas was the one who saved you.” Tommy says suddenly catching my attention.
“What do you mean?” I ask looking up at the man standing in front of me.
“It took all of us.” Thomas says.
“H-how?” I ask glancing at him and then the others.
“We are all bound together, and we were able to use that to bring you back. You are a part of each of us, so it was not difficult.” Thomas explains nonchalantly.
“He is being too modest. I had never seen him do anything like this. It was incredible.” Eli says patting Thomas on the back.
I was at a loss for words. “Thank you.” Was all I could think of.
“We couldn’t lose you. Without you…we would have nothing.” Thomas says.
I could feel my throat tightening and the urge to cry building, but instead I started laughing. Out of pure relief and happiness, I laughed and pulled Thomas into a hug. He slowly wrapped his arms around me but then we were joined by another pair of arms…and another…and another…and another until we were in a big hug pile.
We had survived everything and made it here alive, and now we could start a new chapter in our lives. One where we no longer needed to look over our shoulder or have to run in fear. We were free…and I couldn’t wait to see what our future together would hold for us.
