Chapter 47

(Maya POV)

“What a smart girl! But there seems to be a small problem that needs to be resolved.” He stands and begins to give the impression he is thinking deeply. “It seems that you inherited another unique trait from your Fae side. Unlike wolves, Fae can have multiple soulmates. It is fairly common actually for a Fae, but not for me. I cannot say why this specific trait was passed to you, but it provides me with several interesting questions but mostly it is a complication. You have already bonded with them, which means keeping you from them will cause you harm, and you will be no use to me. So, I think it will be best to bring your mates here. I already have someone out to fetch them, so you will have a tearful reunion soon.” He laughed heartily at that last part and headed toward my room door.

“They won’t come easily, and I would rather be parted from them forever if it meant they were safe from you.” I spit out.

“Aw, how romantic and selfless of you!” His tone was sarcastic and infuriating. “They will come if it means they will be with you, and we both know it.”

He walked out of the room and the slam of the door followed him sending an echoed reminder that he was in control.

I sat on the bed and let out a sigh. I felt helpless here. He was telling me I am some powerful half Fae, but I didn’t feel powerful at all. My wolf had not said a word since I came here, and I was sure whatever they drugged me with had been keeping her trapped. The link between Eli and I had been silent too, and I was not experienced enough to open it on my own. That thought made my insides bubble with anger, and I fell back on the bed with a loud frustrated groan. If my mother had known what I was, why had she not told me? Why would she let me grow up hiding my wolf to point where our bond was so weak? Being around Tommy, Noah, and Eli had helped bring her out more but now it is as if she has retreated into my mind again.
I was alone.

(Tommy POV)

My head was spinning since we arrived back at the pack. Noah had mostly healed but he had been kept in a temporary coma, because his internal injuries needed more time to heal. We knew he would race to join Eli in the search for Maya before his wounds had healed, so keeping him unconscious was necessary. I had spent the first night with him, but by the next morning my father asked to see me.

“There have not been any attempts by the Alpha’s pack to reenter our land since Maya was taken. He has pulled all his men back it seems.” My father told me when I was sitting across him in his office.

“Do you think he is content with having Maya, and wont further target our pack?” I asked him.

“For the time being it would seem like his needs are satisfied, but if you and the others continue to search for her, I cannot say his distance will continue.” My father messaged his temple as he said this.

He looked like he had not slept in several days. There were papers all around his desk, and I had heard him speaking to another alpha before I came in.

“Are you saying we should stop trying to get her back?” I ask him straight out.

“Of course not son. You boys will begin to feel the effects of separation soon, and we don’t want that! We need to think of another way to get her back. I have tried to reach out to other packs and see if anyone has had dealings with this Alpha, to see if there have been peaceful negations with him before. They all tell me he is ruthless and always attacks without warning. Also, something tells me that there is more to what is going on than we know. For one, if Maya and her parents had left because they felt in danger than why did they not choose to seek refuge in another pack? Why is Maya untrained when it comes to her wolf? Does the alpha want her to kill her or for another reason? There are too many unanswered questions.” My dad looked through a few pieces of paper before handing them to me.

“What are these?” I ask him.

“It is everything I could find on her family when they fled their pack. School records, taxes, whatever I could get. From these it seemed that they were like every other family. None of them displayed their wolf side in all the years they lived there. Maya lived completely as a human since she was a child. I had researched her before when you first met, but the further I go the less I find. Then I spoke to the alpha from the pack north of her old pack. He said there had been a rumor that the Alpha’s son had an affair with a girl, and she became pregnant. His father was furious and forced them apart, and the girl met her mate soon after and gave birth to the child. Something tells me that the girl was Maya’s mother. It would explain why the alpha wants her so badly. She could be his daughter.” My dad explains.

“But why were they separated, and Maya’s mother did not go on to mate with the young alpha?” I ask.

“Something was strange about the alpha’s line. The son seemed to have unnatural abilities that could not be explained. He was a powerful warrior, and few witnessed his power and lived. Even at a young age he was a ruthless person.” My father looked to me now.

“You think if Maya is his daughter that there is a possibility, she too possesses some sort of powers?” I knew what he was thinking, but part of me didn’t want to think of what the alpha would do to her if she did.

“I spoke to Emily, when I heard about this. She said that there was a strange incident involving a pup from the pack. She said Maya brough the child in saying they had a large injury but when Emily examined the injury, it had almost completely healed. The child too was a bit uneasy after.” My father showed me the paper from the child’s appointment.

“So, she healed the child? You think that is her power? But if that was her power, it would not make her a powerful warrior like him. So why would he want her? There has to be more to it.” I tell him slumping back in my own chair.

“It’s true, being able to heal may help the alpha if he is injured in a fight, but it does not seem to warrant the extent he was willing to go to get her back. His pack is so hidden, that many know nothing about them until they face them in battle. Or through unconfirmed rumors. In truth we won’t know what we are up against until they come.” My father lets out a deep sigh and sits back in his chair as well. “Son, I want to find Maya as well but there is no clear path to do so. There are too many unknowns.”

I nodded in agreement.

Since this had happened my alpha side has been in overdrive. So much so that I have not felt the connection to Maya other than the need to get her back. I miss the other things I felt when we were together, the want and need to hold her seemed lost now. My father was right in that we would begin to feel the effects of the separation soon. I had begun to feel them in the night when I sat at Noah’s bedside. The tingling pain in my body, as if small needles were being pressed into my skin. Almost like the urge for her touch was manifesting itself into a physical pain. I had to take some pain killers this morning before meeting with my father, so that I could focus on what he needed to tell me.

I also didn’t want to worry hi after I saw how exhausted he looked. This was something that could not be fixed until Maya was home, so I would have to endure it.

“Eli is still at the village not far from where Noah was hurt. He followed Mya’s scent there but lost it this morning. He said that he thought he saw one of the men who had taken her at a café and planned on following him. We don’t know much now, but if he can find out where the pack is than we would have a slight advantage.” My father sits up and looks at me with a half-smile.

“If he can find the pack, then maybe we can take them by surprise and attack head on while they are unprepared.” My father stands and starts to pace like he always did when he was thinking.

“That is what I hoped, but I don’t know how to reach Eli and tell him to stand down if he does find the pack. He called me from a café phone.” I couldn’t call back and ask for him without raising questions from the locals there.

“Then we need to prepare the pack, and when he calls you again tell him what the plan is. Ok?” He says, and I can see from his eyes that his urge to fight was growing.

He told me after meeting Maya, that he would treat her like she was his own daughter. He wanted to protect her as soon as he knew what had happened to her, and he was holding true to those words. He was going to get Maya back, because to him she was family, one of us.

A loud alert came from my phone, slightly startling me, but I took it out and saw an unknown number calling.

“Hello?” I say after accepting the call.

“Tommy? It’s Eli. I found it. The pack, and Maya is here I picked up her scent as soon as I got closer. She is here!” Eli tells me.

I look up at my father with a smile.

“Eli found her!”
