Chapter 28

"How are you feeling now?" Tommy asks me handing me a cup of water.

"I don't know. Something is different Tommy, and I am not sure what or why." I tell him feeling my chest tighten again.

"Something is different about me since the accident."

"What do you mean?" Tommy asks seeming a little confused and slightly annoyed.

"I mean remember how fast I healed? Since then I have had this feeling...and then after what Eli said I felt strange." I blurt out without thinking.

"Wait, what happened with Eli?" He asks.

"It was nothing, he was just telling me that he was worried about me." I tell him taking a sip of the water, well more like gulping it down.

"Ok, but why is that so unusual?" Tommy asks.

"It isn't, he just seemed really worried but it's nothing I promise." I try to convince him.

"The more you say it's nothing Maya the more it seems like it's something. Just tell me what happened? What exactly are you feeling?" Tommy asks taking a seat next to me.

I didn't even know what was going on with me, how could I possibly explain it?

"I don't know how to explain. There was this feeling and then I picked up these scents when we were outside of my lecture room. I was picking up a scent from Eli and Noah." I tell him nervously.

"You picked up Eli and Noah's scent? That's not unusual, all werewolves can pick up other wolf's scents." Tommy explains.

"Yes, but this was different. Stronger and more amplified...a lot like the scent I get from you." I say trailing off.

Tommy looks at me and stiffens a little.

"The mate scent?" He asks.

I didn't know what to say but yes that was exactly what it was like. I picked up the mate scent from two guys who were not Tommy! All I could do was nod at his question. He let out a slight growl before quickly standing and pacing in front of my coffee table.

"Tommy I am sure it's some kind of mistake. Maybe their mate was nearby and triggered the scent and I just happened to catch it." I try to explain.

"That's not how it works Maya! Only a mate can pick up that scent! How the hell are you picking off the mate scent from them? huh?!" He yells.

"Tommy please calm down, I don't know ok?! I don't know why either it just happened! When I cleared my mind, I guess my senses were stronger and that's when I sensed it. Something must be wrong with me, it's just a mistake!" I try to explain.

"You are damn right it's a mistake! You are my mate!!" He says loudly.

"I know! Ok? I know! I'm telling you it's just a mistake. I will go to the doctor and see what she can do!" I say standing and trying to calm him down.

As soon as I touch his arm it seems to get him to relax a bit more, but he is clearly upset by what I told him.

I mean I am upset too! Here I have a truck load of problems and now this. How could I be picking up the mate scent from Tommy's friends? I mean I knew Eli a little and I had spoken to Noah once or twice, but I would have sensed it sooner wouldn't I? I had been around them before I should have been able to pick up something sooner.

"We are going to the pack doctor now and figuring out what's going on!" Tommy says, almost demands.

"Ok." I reply.

"Did-did the guys sense it too?" Tommy asks nervously.

"I think so. When I looked at them, they seemed as confused as I was." I tell him honestly.

"Ok, let's just go." Tommy says with a sharp tone.

I quickly put my shoes on and tried to catch up to Tommy who was already heading down the stairs. I stopped outside the door and quickly locked it watching his head disappear as he left. I quickly locked the door and ran after him. He was already outside when I reached the last steps. I could see two people standing with him outside and when I finally reached the door I froze. He was talking, no arguing, with Eli and Noah.

I slowly opened the door and I stepped out catching some of their conversation.

"You guys have no right to ask me that!" Tommy says through gritted teeth.

"We do have the right, she told you didn't she?" Eli says.

"Yeah and I am sure it's some crazy mistake! She is my mate, that's it." Tommy says, his voice getting louder.

"Tommy, this is confusing for everyone, but you know we can't help but be here. We can't stay away, and you know that." Noah adds.

"You can, and you will!" Tommy growls.

"NO!" I say loudly getting their attention.

Tommy looks at me annoyed.

"Tommy you know why they can't stay away. Even if this is some kind of mistake, they need to come. They will go crazy if they don't know what is happening with me. They are worried just like you." I explain to him.

"This is crap Maya!" He yells at me.

"I know! But until we figure this out, they think they are my mates and it will hurt them to stay away. So, we are all going together." I say firmly walking toward the car parked behind them.

I climb into the passenger seat and watch the guys follow me. Tommy gets into the driver’s seat and curses under his breathe. The two others take seats in the back watching me with concern.

"Maya, are you ok?" Noah asks.

Noah had spoken to me before, but not much. He seemed more reserved and shy and when he did speak it was cold and calculated. This side of him was new, and honestly the sound of it sent a chill down the back of my neck.

"I'm ok Noah, I just want the doctor to figure out what's going on with me." I tell him turning and giving him a soft smile.

He smiled back at me and reached his hand toward me and rested it on my shoulder. I didn't think, and I covered his hand with my own. Tommy caught our exchange from the corner of his eye had let out a deep growl, making Noah shrink back into his seat. For some reason, it made me mad. He had no right to growl at Noah!

"Tommy stop." I say firmly.

"I don't like him touching you!" Tommy rumbles.

"He is worried Tommy, just calm down." I tell him turning and looking out the window.

The drive to the pack house was silent but full of tension. Even though this seemed crazy, and a big mess...being here with these boys, I felt safe like I belonged here. When we arrived at the pack house I got out immediately and walked quickly toward the door not waiting for the three puppies following me. I busted through the doctor's door and she looked at me with surprise.

"Maya! Hey what's..." She stops talking when she sees the boys behind me. "What's going on?"

"We have a bit of a problem." I tell her with a sigh.
