Chapter 70
(Noah POV)
After the four of us enjoyed a comfortable breakfast together, Maya happily ran off to get ready for the meeting with the Fae. I needed to know what had Tommy so worried.
“Ok what are you not saying?” I ask him as soon as I hear Maya’s door shut upstairs.
“It’s nothing! I have it under control.” Tommy says standing and taking his plate into the kitchen.
Eli looked away as soon as I looked to him for an answer. “What the hell is going on Eli?”
This time I add a low growl to the question to show I was not in the mood to be ignored. He flinched slightly, probably not expecting me to get so upset.
“When Tommy told the Fae about Maya, he said they wanted to take her. He is worried they will attempt to take her by force when they come to see her. It has him pretty rattled.” Eli explains.
“Why wouldn’t he just tell me that?” I ask annoyed.
“I don’t know. He is in alpha mode now, and he wants to handle this on his own. He only told me because I overheard the conversation.” Eli says throwing his hands up defensively.
I didn’t care if Tommy didn’t want me to know or not, so I stormed into the kitchen and confronted him.
“Why would you keep something like this from me? If Maya is in danger, we all have the right to know, alpha or not we are all her mates!” I say trying to keep my voice steady.
“I told you I have it handled!” Tommy growled back.
“How? You don’t even know what we could be walking into? So how could you possibly have things handled? What is your plan to deal with a species we know next to nothing about? We don’t know anything about their kind Tommy, how are you going to protect her from an enemy you know nothing about?” I push him so he is facing me.
He looks tired, like he had been up all night trying to answer the very questions I was asking now.
“I don’t know! Ok? Is that what you want to hear? I don’t know!!” Tommy yells at me pushing me hard away from him.
“Tommy?” we turn to see Maya standing in the doorway watching us with confusion. “What’s going on? Why are you two fighting?”
I looked to Tommy and waited for him to tell her the truth. He glared at me in anger before walking up to her and placing a hand on each of her arms.
“We are worried that you may be in danger. When I first told the Fae about you, they wanted to take you away, but I told them I wouldn’t let that happen. But I am still worried they may try. I just didn’t want you worrying about it, so I didn’t say anything.” Tommy confesses.
Maya’s expression began as one of anger but quickly changed to worry when she heard everything Tommy said.
“Why do they want me?” She asks.
“I don’t know. I know you said your father said you are very unique, but in the Fae world I am not sure if you are something they wish to keep or destroy. Either way I won’t let them take you! They agreed to send someone, but I want us to be careful. We know nothing about them, how they travel or attack, so we need to be cautious. That is also why I asked them to meet us away from here, so they won’t be able to come back and take you when our guard is down. I’m sorry I should have told you, I just didn’t want to ruin this for you.” Tommy says rubbing her arms trying to sooth her.
She seemed lost in thought but then an angry expression appears on her face and she pulls away form Tommy’s touch.
“You should have just told me the truth Tommy! How can I protect myself if I don’t even know when I am in danger?” She says.
“I’m sorry Maya, but your powers have been unpredictable, and you are not able to shift easily, I was worried you would not be able to defend yourself in time if something were to happen.” Tommy said apologetically.
“Even if that is true, you would rather me be oblivious to danger than ready for it?” She spits back, making a good point.
“I don’t…that’s not what I was trying to do! I was just trying to think of the easiest solution!” tommy replied.
“This is my life that is in danger Tommy! Not yours not anyone else’s! Mine! I have the right to know about anything that could potentially endanger my life, and I have a say in how I want my life protected! I have been running for months now, fighting to stay alive! I am still alive because I don’t walk around blind to the danger around me, when I know it’s there, I can be prepared to face it! Leaving me in the dark only means I can be put in danger just that much easier! I also recall saving Eli and your father, so I am not helpless!” She fires back.
She was growing more upset with each word she said, and I watched as her knuckles turned white with how tightly her fists were clenched. She continued to yell at Tommy growing angrier and as she spoke, I noticed the light above us begin to flicker. The more upset she got the faster the light flickered, and soon Tommy noticed it as well.
“Ok Maya? I’m sorry. Please just calm down.” He says trying to reach for her hand.
As his hand hovered above her arm a strange sensation filled the room and the hairs of my arm began to stand on end, almost like there was static all around us. I looked away from my arm and saw Tommy finally attempt to touch Maya’s arm only to be thrown back by the shock. I ran to Tommy to see if he is ok and he groans in pain but otherwise seems unharmed. Once I can see Tommy is not hurt, I turn back to look at Maya who is now in a slight panic looking at her hands and arms.
“Oh my…Tommy! Tommy I am so sorry!” She yells, tears falling and glistening down her skin which now is lite by small waves of light and energy.
“What is going on?!” Eli asks bursting through the door and not seeing Maya there he runs into her and is shocked instantly.
His body falls to the floor shaking as the electricity runs through him.
“Eli!” She yells about to lean down and see if he is ok but jumps back before she hurts him again.
I need to get her to calm down, but she is panicking and scared.
“Maya? Hey it’s ok! You didn’t mean to do this! They are fine, ok? Just try and breath ok?” I say walking slowly toward her.
“Don’t come close to me Noah I can’t control it and I don’t want to hurt you!” She yells to be wrapping her own arms around herself.
If she wasn’t so sacred, I would easily say she is the most amazing thing I had ever seen. She looks almost like a goddess of light with how the aura around her shines. It is impressive, but I couldn’t focus on that now.
“You won’t hurt me Maya if you look at me and breath!” I move closer, but she takes a step back until she hits the wall behind her.
“Noah, I said get back!” Her voice rumbles in the room as bolts of light shoot out around her and shatter all the glass and bulbs in the kitchen.
I drop to my knees and shield my head from the falling glass, but I glance through my arms to try and see if she is ok. When my eyes fall on her, she sems to be in some sort of trance. Her eyes are completely white, and her expression is flat and without emotion. Light and electricity floats all around her in a steam that looks to be leading into the palms of her hand, almost like she is absorbing the energy in the room. It feels like chaos all around us as more energy begins to enter form somewhere outside of the kitchen window. The light is almost blinding, but it was velar enough for me to see a person appear out of thin air and touch Maya in the head and her fall instantly limp into their arms.
The chaos falls silent almost instantly, and when I feel the strength to stand I do so as quick as possible. Not long later Tommy and Eli also stand, and we are surrounding the stranger that stands holding our mate.
“Let her go!” tommy says with a warning growl.
The man looks down to Maya and brushes a piece of her hair back before turning to face us.
“Be calm. I am not here to hurt anyone.” The man says.
“I find that hard to believe when our mate is lying limp in your arms! What did you do to her?!” Eli yells.
“She is simply sleeping. She would have collapsed the whole building if she continued to absorb the amount of power she was.” The man says bending down and picking up Maya bridal style.
The three of us growl in unison at this stranger touching our mate.
“I will lay her down if you show me where to take her.” The man says.
Eli steps aside and points toward the living room but follows close behind. Tommy and I follow quickly after and watch the man lay Maya on the couch. Once she is situated he stands straight and fixes his close before looking to us.
“Now I can introduce myself properly. My name is Thomas, I was sent by the Fae council upon your request for assistance.” The man says bowing his head slightly.
What century did this guy all from?
“Look, Tom or whatever your name is, what did you do to Maya?” Tommy asks annoyed.
“Thomas. My name is Thomas.” The man says. “And like I said she is simply sleeping.”
“I see that but what did you do to her to make her sleep? Will she wake up soon?” Tommy asks moving closer to the man.
“Yes of course she will, in about an hour. That will give us plenty of time to chat.” The man says giving us a smile and gesturing for all of us to take a seat on the other couch.
We, however, choose to sit close to Maya. Eli picks her up and holds her to his chest tightly and Tommy and I take a seat on either side of him. The man watches us and snickers as we take our places.
“It is clear you are very protective of this girl.” The man says once we are comfortable.
“She is our mate, of course we are. Especially when strangers appear in our home without being invited.” Tommy says.
“Oh, but I was invited. By you.” The man says pointing to Tommy.
“I asked to meet in a different place, so no I did not invite you here.” Tommy clarifies.
“This is true, but I sensed the danger the girl posed and decided it was more prudent to stop her form causing any real harm. Which would have come about if I had not arrived when I did. It is clear why you have asked for our assistance; she is very unstable.” The man says resting his chin in his hand.
“What do you mean?” Eli asks.
“She is clearly very powerful, but her powers seem to be raw and unstable. How long has she had such abilities?” He asks looking to Tommy.
“Eli had seen her us her powers for the first time recently when they were trying to escape from her father.” Tommy replies.
This sparks his interest. “Who is her father?”
“Alpha Kace.” Tommy tells him.
The man becomes noticeably anxious. “We were not informed that Alpha Kace had a child.”
“Her mother took her away at a young age, and they lived in a human town until they were killed a couple of months ago.” Tommy explains.
The man shifts and looks nervous. “This is a lot more complicated than we had thought.”
“Why?” I ask him.
“Because of her mother. She was Fae as well.” He then looks to Maya with an expression of intense sadness. "She is the last of her kind then."
