Chapter 88
(Maya POV)
“She will be here in a couple of days.” My uncle tells the guy who has been sitting mostly unmoving beside me after ending his phone call. “So, for now Maya you should go home and rest. Freddie can you drive her home?”
“Sure! Come on Maya let’s get you home!” The guy says standing and offering his arm to me for support.
“I will see you soon Maya! For now, let’s keep this little plan between us, ok?” My uncle asks with a smile and a wink.
I nod my head and let Freddie lead me out of the office. Once we are in the car and Freddie has started to drive off, I let out a sigh.
“Man, I didn’t know how nervous I was going to feel when I saw him!” I say turning to Freddie.
He has a proud smirk on his face. “You did better than I thought you would. Have you ever considered being an actor?” He asks teasingly.
“Not particularly but after that I may consider it. IF I make it out of all this alive.” I reply leaning back into my chair.
“Shut up! We won’t let anything like that happen!” He says shaking his head.
“I am not so sure at this point. I mean I am glad I finally have a way to fight for my own freedom now, but after everything…I don’t know I guess I figured if everyone doesn’t get what they want from me, they will think I am better dead than alive. I wasn’t even supposed to survive the night my parents were killed.” I explain.
“Look, Maya I know we haven’t known each other for very long but I can tell you that even though I am not sure what your uncle’s plan is after all this, I don’t think he would rather have you dead. I think he just wants the council removed from power. That is what he feels would be justice for what happened to your mom.” He says trying to reassure me.
“Maybe but I am sure you can imagine when it has come to family that I didn’t know I have; they all give me very little that can actually be worth my trust. Even my uncle has an agenda and he not once offered to get to know me. I guess it’s hard for me to trust anyone who I share the same blood with.” I let out a sigh at these thoughts.
I hated that I felt like I didn’t even mean anything to anyone who i was related to. I kept having random relatives fall out of the sky and they only wanted something from me too.
“I’m sorry. I’m sure that feel terrible. But you can be sure that your mates, and Annie and will and I care about you. Even if the world is against you, you have us on your side.” He says giving my hand a quick squeeze.
“Thanks Freddie! I am glad you are here.” I say with a yawn.
“Me too! And sorry about the stuff at the club!” I had forgotten about that, but I couldn’t help the laugh that came from me when his face suddenly reddens.
“It’s ok! Like you said I am a good actress! I just imagined that you were someone else.” I say with a smile.
“You are never going to let me live it down, will you?” He asks with an embarrassed groan.
“Never! It will be a fun story to tell everyone! My brother flirting with me at a club is going to be one crazy story!” I say with a laugh.
“God that sounds so wrong! People are going to think I am some kind of pervert!” He yells.
“Yep, and I will enjoy it thoroughly.” I say with a laugh.
“Well, now that this is finished…when can I meet the boys?” He asks with a cheesy smile.
“How about tonight? I am sure they are going to surprised but there is not point on keeping it a secret from them now. I think we can tell them everything now that it’s a bit too late to turn back now.” I say with a shrug.
“They are not going to be happy, are they? And then when they hear Annie and Will helped, they are going to be very angry!” Freddie shakes his head.
“Maybe but they never would have agreed, and I didn’t want them involved. This is my choice and as much as I love them, they would have tried to talk me out of it.” I hated not telling the boys about what I had planned but I needed to handle this alone.
“Well, if they hate me because of this I will blame you!” He says scowling at me.
“They will have to deal with it! You are my brother, and I won’t lose you now!” I say resting my hand on his shoulder. “I still can’t believe I have a brother.”
“Well, believe it! I am just sorry it took me so long to find you!” He says, and his face turns sad.
“Hey! It wasn’t your fault. Ok? I didn’t even remember you. Is still don’t know why mom would have gotten rid of my memories of you like that.” I wish I could ask her so many things, more than ever now.
“From what I was told, she didn’t want you searching for me and vice versa. If we were together, then our father would have found us sooner. Or so I was told.” He replies.
“Still, I can’t believe that we could have had each other and instead she let her fear keep us apart. We missed so many years together! I just…I hate that she did this.” I loved my mom so much, but the more secrets I learned about her made me realize I didn’t know her at all.
“It doesn’t matter now. We found each other and I won’t let you go now! I like having an older sister!” He says with a smile.
“Hey, I am not that much older! Don’t make it sound like I am ancient or something!” I yell smacking him playfully.
He laughs. “A couple minutes is still older!”
We bicker like this for the rest of the car ride, until the entrance of the pack lands comes into view.
“Ready?” I ask him.
He nods and looks forward, driving slowly through the barrier. We drive for about ten minutes until we pull up to my house. The nerves I had been feeling earlier suddenly return now that I have to face my mates and tell them everything I had done. How I had a plan of my own that they didn’t know about. The fact that Will and Annie were in on it as well! Tommy was not going to like that at all. I also was going to be bringing home a brother I had no idea I had because my mom had made us forget.
“I think I may throw up!” I say suddenly.
“Not in my car you aren’t!” Freddie says jumping out and running to my side of the car and pulling me out.
“I wasn’t serious! Sheesh!” I growl at him in annoyance.
“Oh.” He says and giggles a little.
Before I can say something else to him, the front door to my house flies open and four very angry men run out. I feel like I can’t move when their worried and angry looks fall on me. What’s worse is the looks they get when they noticed I was standing next to a strange man.
Freddie leans over and whispers, “They definitely don’t look happy.”
I elbow him and my boys look between us and a growl breaks the silence.
“What the hell is going on?” Tommy growls out.
I step toward him. “Look I know you have a lot of questions and I promise to explain everything, but let’s all try and stay calm ok?”
I rest my hands on his chest as he tries to take a step toward Freddie.
“You sure as hell better explain where you have been and why some man is bringing you home Maya!” Tommy says pulling away from me and storming inside.
The other give me one last look before turning and following him inside.
I turn to Freddie. “This is going to be harder than I thought.”
He gives me a sympathetic smile and wraps an arm around my shoulder, leading me toward the door.
“Just rip it off like a Band-aid.” He says.
“Wow, thank you so much for the advice!” I say rolling my eyes.
He laughs and we walk inside together. When we reach the living room my four mates were glaring in our direction waiting for an explanation. There was no turning back now. It was time to come clean.
“So, I know I have a lot of explaining to do, and I hope you guys can forgive me once you know everything.” I say first.
“Maya what is going on?” Noah asks.
I can hear the hurt in his voice, and it pains me that I had hurt them.
“First off, this is Freddie. He is…my twin brother.” I say and pause to let that information sink in.
I wasn’t expecting the next thing I heard. A laugh breaks the stunned silence and I turn to look at Eli. None of us seem to know what to do but watch him go off.
“I swear no drama I have ever watched on tv can compare to the world of Maya Proctor. I long lost twin brother? HA! What kind of soap opera is this?” He says laughing still.
“Oh dear. He has finally lost it.” Noah says shaking his head.
I stutter trying to find the right thing to say, but I am at a loss, but Tommy speaks next.
“How long have you known about him?” Tommy asks looking up at me.
“I found out about him when Thomas and I came back.” I admit.
“What else are you keeping from us?” He asks, his arms firmly crossed.
“I will explain everything I promise!” I say almost begging for him to give me a chance to explain.
“Go ahead then.” He says coldly.
“Ok. Well, when we returned Annie called and asked me to meet her. So, I snuck out while you guys were sleeping that night and met her at her house. When I got there…..”
