Chapter 49
(Eli POV)
I stood watch for a few hours and at around dust a car left from the pack land. I recognized the car as the one the man I was following used. My instincts were to jump in front of his car and rip him from inside, but I needed to keep that side in check. This required making myself completely undetectable and killing a member of the pack would bring unwanted attention. So, I settled for scowling at the car instead, and a slight growl too. I expected the car to drive down the path o the village, but I was surprised when the car pulled over not far from me.
The car turned off and the man inside did not move for a few moments, but I kept my eyes fixed on his silhouette through the back car window. What is he doing? After a few silent moments his door opened, and he stepped out. The scent of Maya reached my nose soon after, and I couldn’t hold in the low growl that rumbled inside my chest. He must have heard it because he turned and looked straight at me. Then he smiled. Smiled!
All my resolve melted, and I ran toward him from my hiding place. In a split second my hand was wrapped around his neck and I was growling down at him as I held him against the car.
“Please…please wait, Maya sent me.” He said through his strained voice.
My grip loosened at the sound of her name and I stepped back releasing him from my grip.
“What?” I ask.
“Maya, I spoke to her. I told her I will help you get her out. That’s why I am here!” He explains rubbing his throat trying to sooth the bruises that were no doubt were already forming.
“Is she ok? They haven’t hurt her right?” I ask with a shaky breath.
“No, she is not hurt, the Alpha would not risk hurting her. He needs her in the best shape.” He tells me.
“Why? What does he want with her?” I ask in desperation.
“You don’t know?” He asks. “No, I suppose you would not know since even Maya seemed not to know everything either. I am not sure if we have enough time to explain it all, but in short the Alpha is her father. He wanted her because she is very unique. Like him she is part Fae, which means she is a powerful weapon for our pack.”
I am stunned by his explanation. Maya was half Fae? She has powers? What powers does she have? How did she not know?
“I know this may seem a little overwhelming and a more detailed explanation will be needed, but at another time ok? We need to move quickly. Some of the others in the pack are setting up a way to draw the guards away from her room, and then we will make our move. I will help you get her out, but you must follow me closely!” He says walking around to the back of the car and opening the trunk.
He motions his hands to tell me to climb in.
“Are you kidding? Do you see how big I am, I wont fit in there!” I say in protest.
“You will fit, but it may be a little tight. It is just so no one sees you until we reach my home. Now hurry!” He says quickening his motion for me to get in.
I groan and step into the trunk, bending my legs and tucking my head in. The space did fit me, but I was curled up in a tight fetal position. The man let out a stifled giggle before closing the trunk and proceeded to curse at him for several moments before I heard the car start again. I could feel the car going over the gravel road, and the movements made me slam into several parts of the small space I was in. I cursed each time my back hit a wall of the trunk, and soon after I heard music playing from inside the car. The guy must be trying to muffle the sound of my body being thrown against many hard surfaces.
We drove for what was probably only a couple of minutes but felt a longer, and I promised myself never to ride in a trunk of a car again. Once the car came to a stop I heard footsteps came around the car, and the man opened the trunk to let me out. He stepped back and I kicked my legs out with a grunt and squirmed and maneuvered my body out of the small space. Once out I took a moment to stretch out my limbs.
“Come, we do not want your scent lingering too long, someone might pick up on it.” The man said.
I glanced around us and found that we were parked behind a small cabin that was sitting on a completely open field with several other similar homes not far into the distance. He began walking toward the back door, and glance behind at me and waved his hand to tell me to follow him. Inside was dark, and I tripped over the small rug that sat in front of the door. Not much was visible, but the man walked in with ease and flipped a switch on the opposite wall filling the small room with light. We were standing in a small kitchen, that looked surprisingly homey.
“Follow me please.” The man said walking through a door leading to the rest of the house.
Once I walked through the door and followed he stopped in front of a door beneath the stairs. He unlocked it with a key he pulled from his pocket and walked through. I hesitated for a moment, debating if I should follow him since I didn’t exactly trust him. I took a deep breath and decided that if he was planning on ambushing me, he wouldn’t have done it here. So, I followed him done a few steps into a basement, and instantly took a defensive posture baring my fangs. In the basement was a small group of people waiting for me.
“Wait, don’t worry! They are here to help as well. They won’t hurt you!” the man said stepping between me and the others.
I let my jaw lax and retract my fangs before standing straight and slowing my breathing.
“Who are these people?” I ask him a little annoyed.
“They are some who have volunteered to help Maya escape. The few others who are not here are preparing the distraction we planned.” He says moving to stand next the group.
A woman steps forward and gives me a soft smile. “You are her mate?” She asks.
I offer her a nod. “One of them yes.”
The group gave me a confused look at my answer.
“One of them?” The woman asks.
“Yes, one of three.” I answer watching their reaction closely.
Their eyes widened and they looked to each other. Not many people knew that Maya had 3 mates outside of our pack, and I expected nothing less than shock as a reaction. Our situation was not common and even in our pack, the idea of a female wolf having 3 mates was not widely accepted. Especially since one of her mates as the future alpha, and this was something we would have to face eventually.
“She really is a special girl.” She says with a content smile.
Her comment left me a little surprised. The others in the group nodded their head in agreement. I was happy they did not think badly of Maya, but something more seemed to be going on that I was not aware of.
“Do you all know Maya?” I asked.
“She was part of our pack for a few years when she was young. Rumors went around that she was the Alpha’s daughter but then she was gone. The Alpha was furious, and when he started searching for her we figured the rumors had been true. Has Oliver explained the uniqueness of the alpha line?” She asked giving the man who had helped a pointed look.
I guess his name is Oliver.
“He mentioned that Maya is half Fae.” I reply.
“Just like Oliver to only share half the story. The thing is, there are many kinds of Fae. The alpha’s father mated with a very special Fae woman who was what they called a ‘Fae Komplett’. They are a special breed of Fae who posses the powers of all Fae. The alpha used this power for a long time and became an unbeatable and ruthless warrior. He has kept his condition secret, but we were told that he has lost his powers, and his desperation to find his daughter grew. Now that he has her, I imagine he wants to use her powers for his plans of growing the pack.” The woman explained.
I looked at her like she had 3 heads and she noticed because she began rambling about something I didn’t bother to listen to. Maya was part Fae, and not just that but the daughter of an alpha wolf. It seemed impossible. She was so soft spoken most days and she was shy and inside her was this storm of strength that she never showed.
“Where are they keeping her?” I ask pushing all my thoughts away and focusing on the most important thing right now, and that was getting Maya out of here.
“She has a room in the main house. It’s locked and guarded by two men at all times. The others have placed some small explosives on the east side of our border. The explosion should be enough to alert the warriors, and they will call the guards away to join them to check for intruders.” Oliver said.
Wait, did he just say explosion?
