Chapter 71

(Noah POV)

Maya seems sluggish and disoriented still which concerns me, but this Fae does not seem concerned at all. He did not explain exactly what he had done to her other than that he put her to sleep, and he did not say how long it would take for the effects to wear off. She was now resting against Tommy’s chest drifting in and out of consciousness, and I was beginning to become very worried.

“Sorry to interrupt and I do want to get back to you saying you will be staying longer, but first…why is Maya so disoriented still?” I ask interrupting Tommy’s questioning.

The Fae looks to me and gives me a faint smile.

“I had to use more strength to get her to sleep than is usually needed because of how much energy was coursing through her. It will take some time for her to full wake. She is not in any danger though, just groggy. Don’t worry I would not harm her.” He says.

Those last words have Tommy holding Maya closer as if he suspects the Fae is not telling us everything.

“Now back to what we were talking about. What has happened? Why are you suddenly remaining here? What did your council tell you?” Tommy asks firmly.

The fae smiles looking slightly cocky. “It is more what I told them young alpha. You see it seems like Maya needs me more than I and the council realized. It must have been fated that I would be the one sent to her, and not another of my peers.”

It was clear he was dancing around the subject, but it was only making Tommy and Eli more protective of Maya. The Fae may have not realized but he was provoking their wolves to protect their mate and that was putting him in danger.

“Just answer the question!” I growl out, not meaning for it to sound so threatening.

He looks at me unmoved by my tone but sits forward looking at us better.

“Maya does not have three mates, she has four….and I am one of them.” He says plainly.

I look to Tommy and Eli as soon as the words leave his mouth and I could see their eye shifting quickly as they try to restrain their wolves.

“Like hell you are!” Eli spits out with a warning growl.

“We don’t believe you! How is that possible? What would she need you for?” Tommy asks impatiently.

“I don’t know!” The Fae says almost angry.

I am furious but something about the look he has now is concerning and I cannot quite the voice in my head telling me him being her mate as well is not exactly a good thing.

“What do you mean you don’t know?” I ask him.

He looks to me and he seems unsure what to say.

“It is not uncommon for a Fae to have more than one partner in their life depending on the needs of our people. We each have very special abilities that are passed on by our parents. However, when I kind faced a very bad threat, we would be paired with a Fae with a particularly strong ability. When two Fae mate it can increase their individual powers by feeding off the energy that lies within their partner, but their children will be twice as powerful. When a female carries a child, the council can test for the child’s future ability and if it pairs well with another child, they will cast a spell to bind them while still in their mother’s womb. I don’t know how but that is what has happened to Maya and me. We were selected as embryos to be a mated pair.” He explains.

“How is that possible if Maya’s mother did not become pregnant with her until after leaving the Fae world?” I ask him.

He shrugs. “That is what I also do not understand. Her mother would have to have met with the council to have Maya spell bound to me. Did Maya ever mention anything like that to you before?”

He had seemed so cocky a moment ago but that must have been a reaction to us becoming so defensive, but whatever it was has quickly passed. He seems as confused as us.

“Maya said her parents never told her much about their past. She didn’t even know who her real father was.” Tommy replies.

“Did your parents never tell you that you had a mate?” I ask him.

He looks to me and shakes his head. “No, they never said I had been mated to anyone.” His eyes widen suddenly as if he is having a realization. “But when they came to me with the council about this mission, they were adamite it had to be me who came. Even though there were ones far more experienced than me.”
I take in his words and look to Tommy who also seemed to be having a realization.

“What?” I ask him.

“It’s just....the one I spoke to on the phone said they wanted to bring Maya to the Fae world before I told him that we wouldn’t let her. That must be why they sent you here, because Maya couldn’t go to you.” He says turning from me to the Fae.

“It would seem there is something far bigger at play that none of us in this room seem to know anything about. This all seems planned somehow.” The Fae, Thomas, says.

“Welcome to the club Thomas. Where none of us know anything.” Tommy says with a huff.

“Can you still help Maya?” I ask him.

“Yes, I can. She is very powerful, but I believe she can learn to control it with time. However, we first need to make her lose control so she can learn to tame it. How secure is this location?” He asks looking to each of us.

“My father said there is a protection spell around this whole property, but you seemed to have gotten in with no problem, so I am not sure how reliable it is.” Tommy says rolling his eyes.

Thomas laughs a little. “That’s because the power around this property is Fae power. That is how your father knew of us. My father was the one who created the protection spell that is surrounding us now. That much he did tell me, so that I knew how to enter when I arrived.”

Tommy scoffs. “Of course. As if this all wasn’t weird enough. My father knew your father.”

Tommy had a point, everything seemed connected somehow. But why?

“Interesting coincidence I agree.” Thomas says.

“Something tells me that nothing that has happened has been coincidence.” I say getting looks from the rest of the guys.

“I would have to agree. It is all a bit odd.” Thomas says glancing to Maya.

He lowers his gaze and clears his throat. “I would like to keep an eye on her for now until she is fully awake and explain all this to her if that is ok.”

I look to my friends and I could feel their resistance to part with Maya, but she had a lot to hear about and maybe it would be best if Thomas was the one to explain.

We also had no idea what he had done to her, and we wouldn’t know how to help her if something were to happen.

“Yes, you can stay with her in her room.” I tell him, standing and walking over to Tommy.

I knew it would be hard for him to part with her when he is feeling so protective of her, and although it hurt me as well, I was more in control at the moment. So, I gently life Maya from Tommy’s arms and secure her in my arms before walking toward the stairs. I pause and turn to Thomas.

“Follow me.” I tell him and he stands quickly, and I lead him up the stairs to Maya’s room.

Once we are in her room, I gently set her down and place a soft kiss on her forehead. She looks asleep but reacts by turning her head and with slightly parted eyes she smiles at me.

“I am going to leave you to rest for a little while, ok? We will be right downstairs. Thomas is going to keep an you on you though. Ok?” I whisper to her.

She nods and closes her eyes again, and I take that as chance to slip out. But before I leave, I look to Thomas.

“We will not hesitate to hurt anyone who tries to come between us and our mate again, try not to test our patience.” I warn Thomas.

He laughs a little.

“I have heard about wolves and how quick they are to fight. You do not have to worry, because she is now my mate as well and I will protect her with my own life.” He says seriously.

I give him a nod before turning and walking out of the room, closing the door behind me. I didn’t want to leave Maya alone, but if he was right and they were mates, she needed to hear it from him. She would need everything explained to her, and he was the only one who could do that. We needed to step aside for now.
