Chapter 52

(Maya POV)
The hot breath of the second wolf was brushing thee back of my neck but I did not turn to face it. I knew he would not hurt me. My father needed me alive, or he would lose the power he was so desperately clinging onto. I felt my breaths grow steady, something inside me was sure we would escape. The wolf behind me leaped over my head and ran toward Eli and collided with the two had already been fighting.

We will make it out of here.

“Stop!” I yelled to the three wolves.

They did not hear me.

“I said stop!!” I yelled and reached my hand toward them.

A flash of light shot through the air blowing them apart. Eli and the two wolves were thrown in different directions. One of the wolves who had attacked us slammed against a nearby tree with a loud crack. His body dropped to the ground life less. Eli and the other wolf scrambled back up and turned to me. I stood firm with my hand still stretched out, shaking with rapid breaths escaping my mouth. That flash of light and that power, had it come from me?

The other wolf was running on pure instinct now and rushed toward me.

Anger was building inside me. Everything I had been holding inside me came thundering out in a scream of pure rage and power. With my hand outstretched toward him still, green vines cam rushing toward him. I screamed louder and they wrapped themselves around the wolf, tightening and pulling closer together encasing him until his whimpers where muffled by the thick barrier. When silence follows, I drop my hand weakly and fall to the ground.

Eli runs up beside me, he had shifted back to his human form.

“Maya?” he says softly lifting me into his arms. “Can you hear me?”

“Are you naked?” I ask not lifting my head just yet.

Eli lets out a relieved laugh. “Sorry, but it’s nothing you haven’t seen before.”

I smacked his arm and kept my eyes closed until my head was facing him. When I opened them, he had a cocky smile fixed on his face.

“Oh god! Shut up!” I say burring my face in his neck.

“Come on let’s get you up. We need to keep moving.” He says standing and pulling me to my feet along with him. “I’m sure there are more of them on their way. I think the entrance to the pack lands is only about a mile away.”

He pointed in the direction we needed to go, and my eyes squinted to try and see what was ahead of us. He paused for a minute and turned to look at the pile of vines that still encased the wolf I had fought.

“So, can you explain what this is?” he asks turning to face me.

I turned as well to look at what I had done. I had killed two people with my powers. Powers that were raw and uncontrollable and could easily hurt innocents.

“I don’t know. I got so mad, and it felt like all that anger was released the moment my hand was reaching out.” I tried to explain.

“Is there more?” He asks, and I could hear concern in his voice.

“A lot more. According to the Alpha, I possess the powers of all the elements plus much more. He didn’t explain exactly what that meant but so far, they all seem very dangerous. I have no idea how to control it, and the part that scares me…I feel free when I use the power in me.” I gulp at my last confession.

It was true. When I had used my powers, it was as if I was not afraid, I didn’t feel weak and powerless like always did. I had the power to do anything I wanted, and it felt like relief. That feeling of enjoying the power I was using made me feel guilt and regret as soon as I saw what I had done. Even if these men were helping my father, and may have killed many others, it still felt wrong taking their life like this. I did not want to become the monster my father was because if these powers.
I felt tears fill my eyes and I dropped my head in shame. Eli lifted my head, so we were looking eye to eye with each other. “You did nothing wrong Maya, you protected me from men who were trying to hurt me. I know you are scared of this side of you because it’s new and unstable, but it makes you strong. It is a part of you and should never be ashamed of who you are. I know you are nothing like that man, blood does not make you the same.”

He pulled me close kissing my forehead and wrapping his arms around me. I felt safe, like I was finally home as I breathed in his scent. I missed him, but now I was feeling the pull for my other mates as well. I wanted to hold them like this too, but would I ever get the chance. Would we really escape here and make it home? I had hoped but I knew my father would never stop chasing me even if I we did. There were more men on their way, and even if we killed an entire army, he would send a second army to bring me back.

There was no one else in this world like me, and he wanted that power in his hands. He wanted to be the most powerful pack in the country, and no small escape attempt would deter him.

“I’m going to shift now; you climb on my back again ok?” Eli says stepping back from me.

I nodded brushing a few tears from my eyes. He moved back further, and I focused on his face shaking my head at his smirk. He kneeled down and with the sound of every bone his body being broken he shifted into his wolf once again. The moon light reflected off his fur and he was really a sight to see. I let out a playful growl, and I walked to him brushing his fur gently. His whole body shivered under my touch which made me giggle softly. It was obvious his wolf was sensitive to my touch, and even more so when we weren’t running for our lives.

I had never met Eli’s wolf, and I made a mental note that if we made it home, that I would spend more time with him. He nuzzled his head in my neck with a soft whimper and I smiled at his soft behavior. Who knew the creature who had been snarling and snapping at two other wolves not long ago was so soft and gentle. He lowered himself to the floor and nudged my side, it was time to go. This quiet moment wouldn’t last, and he was right we needed to go.

I climbed onto his back and grabbed his fur tightly and leaned closer to his ear.

“Let’s go home.” I whispered and he took off immediately.

He ran through a mile more of trees that ended along a small dirt road. He lowered himself and watched for a moment, below the trees to see if there was anyone waiting for us.

I held my breath when I saw the number of men guarding our only way out.

I felt a rumble vibrate through Eli’s chest. His wolf was ready to charge and attack the men head on, but we were outnumbered. Even though I had these powers, I wasn’t sure if I the moment came if I would be able to call on them to help in the fight. We needed to find a way around them, but that was not going to be easy.

“We need to find another way around.” I whisper to him.

“There is no other way. This is the only way in and out. The enchantment encases this entire area, there are no other exits.” Eli’s voice said in my mind.

I smiled at him using our mate bond to talk to me, I guess I had missed it.

“I missed it too. I need to hear your voice every day from now on.” He said back.

I blushed at his words. He took a few steps back and let me climb off his back. I lowered myself and stayed huddled close to him.

“We need to draw them away somehow.” He said to me.

The last distraction used seemed a little too dangerous, and we didn’t exactly have any explosives hanging around. Early morning was drawing close now, and the sun was lightening up the night sky. We would be seen soon without the cover of night. We needed to do something soon. The only option I could think of was making myself the distraction so that Eli could get away.

“Like hell! We are going together; don’t you dare try to tear us apart.” Eli growled at me through the mate link.

“If it meant you could get away, then it is enough Eli! My father won’t kill me, but I have no doubt he would happily kill you. He doesn’t care that we are mates, if you fought against him, he would kill you in an instant.” I tried to reason with him, but he only grew agitated.

“No Maya! We go together. Look I know what you are trying to do, but there is another reason why I need you to come with me now. It’s Noah.” His wolf turned to look at me and the sadness in his eyes was enough to tell me something terrible had happened.

“What happened to Noah?” I ask.

“He was hurt badly trying to reach this place. Tommy and Will took him home to be treated, and his injuries were too severe. It was taking him too long to heal, so they placed him in a coma so that his body could rest and heal properly. Tommy told me to keep this from you, but you need to know. He hasn’t woken up. They stopped the drugs keeping him asleep, but he still hasn’t woken up. He needs you. So please, for Noah, you need to come home with me.”

Noah needed…me?
