Chapter 70
(Tommy POV)
“How do you know her mother was Fae? Did you know her?” I ask Thomas.
“Everyone knew of her. She was the daughter of one of the high council members. I am not sure how much you know about Alpha Kace’s arrangement with the Fae, but she was promised to him as soon as she came of age. Although after she passed from our world to the pack, we did not know what had become of her. We do not communicate much with those outside of our world.” He replied.
“Maya only learned a very little when she was captured by her father, but form what she told us it sounded like Alpha Kace had an affair with her, but she found her mate and went to him even after she became pregnant.” I tell him.
“Hmm…how very strange. As Fae we cannot be mates chosen for a wolf, that is why her mother was given to him. She should not have found a mate in the pack. That is indeed very strange. What else does Maya know?” He asks clearly confused.
“She seems just as unsure as you look. She has one side of the story from her mother and one from her father, but neither is very clear.” I admit.
“Well, after Alpha Kace’s father met with our people and the arrangement for him to be given a Fae as a bride, he asked that each of his decedents also be given a partner so to keep their blood line strong. I am not sure what the Fae council received in return to agree to such a contract, but they went along with it and Alpha Kace was given a Fae when he became of age. As part of the contract, Maya would also be paired with someone who is Fae. But…” He looks to each of us then. “Strangely enough she has been mated to all three of you. Fae can have more than one soulmate, but only within our own kind. It must be that her wolf side is stronger and because of this she has been given a mate bond.”
“Her wolf is there but she has only shifted once. She said her link to her wolf is somewhat weak.” I tell him.
“It is possibly that the strength of her Fae abilities is muting the wolf side right now because she is too unstable. Once she can learn to balance the energy she feels from her powers, she should be able to strengthen her link to her wolf. However, that is merely a theory since like I mentioned before her kind is very rare.” Thomas says with a shrug.
“What exactly is she? I mean her father said she is a special kind of Fae, but I don’t know if I trust anything that man has told her.” Eli says growling at the memory of Maya’s father.
“A wise choice I am sure. Well, simply there is a special mutation that happens rarely when a Fae will be born with all the natural powers that the different Fae possess. However, these special Fae also possess other abilities. Form what we have seen with others this can include the power of Air, Fire, Water, Earth, Light, Electricity, Reality, and so on. Some only use a small fraction of their power, so the complete list of their capabilities is mostly unknow. But it is all controlled by the power of mind and by emotion, something Maya must learn to control.” He explains.
“The only times her powers appeared was when she was trying to save someone, but after she completed the mating bond with Noah there was an energy pulse and this mark appeared on her. Then today her powers seemed stronger and uncontrollable.” I say looking at her and remembering how upset she had been.
“I see. When a wolf mates what can happen? Do you get stronger?” Thomas asks.
“Yes, the mate bond can make us stronger and even more so for us because I am an Alpha and she is to be Luna.” I tell him.
“I can only assume that bonding with the three of you has made her more powerful, and it is overwhelming her to the point that she can be easily triggered. We need to find a way for her to learn to quiet that side of her, so it does not take over her completely. She came dangerously close to hurting all of you when I arrived and no matter how far she is from others, she can easily kill many people if she is not careful. She will need your help as well, because of your bond you should be able to keep her grounded as long as you know how to calm her.” Thomas stands and walks toward us now and stands looking down at Maya.
“So, can you help her?” Noah asks.
“I think so, but I have never met someone quite like her. Her powers are extremely strong, and she was not trained from a young age like most Fae are, so it may be more difficult. We also have special training areas in the Fae world that allow powers while keeping them contained. In your world I am not sure how that will be done.” Thomas says hovering his hand over Maya’s eyes.
“What are you doing?” Eli asks tensely holding Maya.
“Waking her. My time here is limited, and we need to begin working soon.” Thomas makes small circular motions over her eyes until they begin to flutter open.
“How are you able to do that?” I ask him.
“I am also a special kind of Fae, not as rare but rare enough. Don’t worry I will not hurt her! We are prohibited from hurting one of our own kind, and I have been instructed that no harm come to her.” Thomas says with a reassuring smile.
I still didn’t trust him, but we needed his help and right now Maya’s well being is the most important thing. Maya slowly begin to wake, and her eyes flutter several times before they widen in fear. She sits up suddenly almost slamming her head into Eli’s face.
“What’s going on? What happened? Who are you?” She asks rapidly.
“It’s ok Maya, he is here to help you.” I tell her calmly.
She looks to each of us and then to Thomas wearily.
“Hello Maya, I am Thomas. I was sent here by the Fae council to assist you with your new abilities.” Thomas holds out a hand to shake.
She looks at his hand as if it is a snake that could easily bite her if she moves too quickly. She slowly takes his hand, and her eyes widen when their hands meet. Thomas stiffens as well, and we watch as their eyes widen and surprise flashes over their faces.
“What’s wrong? What’s happening?” Eli asks shaking Maya lightly trying to get her attention.
She and Thomas look as if they are frozen in a trance, and their eyes begin to flash from their natural color to gold and back several times. It only lasted a few moments, but it was long enough to cause panic to wash over Eli, Noah and I. Then Thomas looks to her with a smile and their hands separate.
“How strange.” Is all Thomas says as his hand slowly falls to his side again.
“What is strange? What just happened?” I ask.
“It looks as if I will be staying a little longer than I had planned.” Thomas answers his eyes still fixed on Maya.
“What? What does that mean?” I ask him getting a little impatient with his vague responses.
“It’s nothing really, we should begin. Just give me a few moments to contact the council and update them on the situation.” Thomas says turning toward the front door and stepping out.
The three of us turn too look at Maya then, and she seems dazed and keeps her eyes lowered.
“Maya what was that? What happened?” Eli asks cupping her face in his hands and turning it to face him.
She still does not look at him, and it as if she doesn’t even hear him.
“Maya! What’s wrong? Can you hear me?” I could hear in his voice, slight panic.
Then suddenly her eyes look to him and its as if she just woke up.
“What?” She asks.
“We asked what happened when you and Thomas touched.” He says worry still laced around every word.
“I-I’m not sure. I just had a strange feeling. Like I know him.” She says.
She had never been to the Fae world, so how would she know this guy? Had he done something to her mind? She almost looked hypnotized moments ago, and now she seemed tired and confused. Before we can examine her further, the front door opens, and Thomas walks back in.
“Good news! The council has approved for me to remain here! They feel it is for the best interest of Maya if I stay.” He says with a smile. “I hope there is plenty of room for one more!”
One more? Onee more what?
