Chapter 57
(Maya POV)
As soon as we arrived back at the pack, I was taken to the pack hospital. Eli and Tommy were frantic about me being checked out thoroughly. They spoke quickly to the nurse at the front desk who had brought a wheelchair around to sit me in. I sat listening to them rattle off everything that had happened and the nurse trying to type everything into her computer as fast as the words were being thrown in her direction. I sighed, it was kind of cute how worried they were, but I was fine and all I wanted was to see Noah.
“Um, excuse me ma’am can you tell me what room Noah is in?” I ask interrupting them.
She looks at me curiously, and I disregard the slight judgmental look she gives me.
“Room 115, down the hall and to the left.” She says pointing in the right direction.
I thank her and start wheeling myself toward Noah’s room. Tommy and Eli call after me, but I tell them that I will be ok on my own and to meet me there when they are done speaking with the nurse. They grumble but end up letting me go, and I smile to myself because they gave in so easily. They were being careful around me, and it was sweet but not needed. I soon figured out that wheel myself was tiring and had to stop for a moment to rest my arms. I guess I was still a little weaker than I had thought. A few moments later a young man stopped when he saw me just sitting in the hallway.
“Uh, Hi! Are you looking for someone?” he asks with a soft smile.
“Oh! Yeah sorry, I am on my way to room 115, but I got a little tired.” I admit.
He looks at me a little more carefully and sees the wound on my neck that had closed but was not fully healed yet.
“Oh, my that looks like a bad wound. Has the doctor come to see you yet?” He looked like a nurse, so I explained everything to him, and he smiled. “I see, you are Maya the one Noah has been asking for.”
I blushed at that. “Yeah I was on my way to see him before I see the doctor.”
“No problem you are nearly there, let me help you.” He walks behind me and begins to push me toward the correct room. “Noah asked for you the moment he woke up, you know. Since he got word that the others were bringing you home, he won’t eat or drink anything until he sees you. He is quite stubborn you know?”
I laughed softly. “Yeah, he can be.”
I hadn’t spent a lot of time with Noah yet, but his stubbornness was one trait that was easy to pick up on.
“Here we are!” The nurse says, stepping in front of me and opening the door and holding it so I can wheel myself in.
The curtain in the room was closed and blocking my way, so I opened it slowly and peeked inside.
“I told you I don’t want to see anyone unless it is Maya! So please just get out!” Noah yells with his arms crossed not looking to see who had entered the room.
“Ok, I guess I should go then.” I tease dropping the curtain.
“Wait!” He yells which makes me smile. “Maya?”
I pull the curtain back again and give him a big smile which he returns with wide shocked eyes and sloppy grin.
“Oh, my goddess, you are really here!” He stutters.
“Yeah I’m here!” I say softly wheeling until I am beside his bed.
Once I am beside his bed, there is silence between us as we both seem to get a little shy. I realized we had still not spent much time being with each other in a way that mates are. In a sense we were still kind of strangers even though we were drawn to each other. It was strange but I felt butterflies in my stomach, and I became unsure what to say or do.
“This is a little weird huh?” He asks suddenly with a dry laugh.
“I guess it is a little.” I admit.
His body relaxes suddenly, and he turns to me with a soft expression. “Maya I am so sorry”
I look at him confused. “Why are you sorry? I am sorry you got hurt because of me! It’s my fault you are here right now!”
I forgot about the wheelchair and stood stepping toward the bed and taking Noah’s hand without thinking. He stiffened under my touch and I instantly let go feeling my face get hot and embarrassment flooding in. We had not shared much physical contact yet, the time we had was brief and felt like forever ago. I started to pull my hands away, but he grabbed them before I could, and I looked at him with wide eyes.
“I’m sorry. It’s just it felt so strange for a second. That sensation was so strong I was taken by surprise that’s all.” He explained
I relaxed at his words and he loosened his hold so our hands could mold together. We both get shy once again and look away from each other. We stay like this for a few moments in silence until the door slams open and some loud hooting comes from the two boys entering the room. I call them goys because who enters a hospital room like that? Noah’s face lights up instantly at the sight of Tommy and Eli coming in and heading right for him! They high-five and hug and several other boy things that I don’t understand before they pull away from him.
“I am so glad your awake bro!” Eli says with a smile.
“Yeah! Same here!” Noah replies glancing at me for a moment.
I had stepped back a bit to give the boys their time and I watched them quietly. They really were like brothers, and I was glad to see them all together again and alive. Tommy looked at me and walked toward me with a smirk that had me a little nervous. What was he about to do? I let out a shriek when he grabbed and lifted me into his arms and hugging me tightly. He was acting as if he hadn’t been with for the last few hours hiking up a mountain.
“The doctor says that he will look at you, but he says you should eb able to come home with us today!” He says swinging me slightly.
I laugh and wrap my arms around his neck and lowering my face to his and kissing him softly.
But I groaned at his news. “Can we stay at my place tonight? I am not sure I feel ready to sleep at the pack house just yet. Too crowded.”
He turns and glances at the other who are smiling and give him a nod. I look at each of them in confusion, what do they know that I don’t?
“Well, we wouldn’t be going to the pack house.” Tommy said setting me down and standing beside Eli.
They were all smiling at me oddly, and I was about to turn and walk out if they didn’t stop.
“What do you mean?” I ask.
They just kept smiling.
“Will you just tell me what’s going on!” I whine.
They laugh. “I had a house built for us. For all of us!” Tommy says proudly.
I was stunned. “A house? For us? All of us? Like you three and me, together in one house?”
Tommy laughs and nods. “Yep! It is ready and we can move in right away! I had some of the pack go to your apartment and pack all your stuff and it is waiting for you there.”
I let out a happy laugh before throwing myself in his arms once again.
“I can’t believe this! A house!” I said letting him go and clapping in excitement.
“I am curious to see how Tommy planned out the room arrangement.” Eli teases looking to Noah, who smiled and looked to Tommy.
They may be my mates as well, but Tommy was still the future alpha and they would follow his orders even when it came to stuff like this. He looked back at them a little confused by their glances.
“Oh, uh we all have our own separate room, even Maya. This situation is a little unusual and I thought maybe we could discuss that stuff once we are all home and together.” He explained.
I was relieved because in truth I wasn’t sure what I was comfortable with yet either. We had only been mates for a short time and we hadn’t gotten as far as talking about how all this was going to work.
