Chapter 74

(Tommy POV)

Maya had been training now with Thomas for two weeks, and I was surprised how quickly Thomas fell into our group. The guys and I had been friends since we were kids, so we were close to begin with and had a high level of trust between us. Although I had my doubt is the beginning about the Fae man who was revealed to be Maya’s fourth mate, he was good with her and above anything else that was the most important thing to us. He also had an interesting effect on her that we didn’t, and we didn’t mind but it was fascinating to watch.

When Thomas and Maya would train outside by the lake, while me and the boys would shift and run or stay inside and play video games. By now we had fallen into a comfortable rhythm between all of us. Maya was amazing at trying to make time with each of us, and we loved her for it. Not long after Thomas arrived and had spent a few nights with her, we could see how much she needed him. He had a calming effect on her, and she would end her night in her room with him.

We understood and were happy with the arrangement seeing how much it helped her. She was our world, and we were satisfied that she was no longer in such distress after everything she had been through. I hoped this meant that we could return home soon, although I would miss our little love nest in the cabin in the woods. We felt free here, with just each other as company it allowed us to find our way together and I would be forever grateful for this time. The only thing keeping me from staying is the fact that I was to become alpha not long from now and I needed to accept that role knowing everything about our pack.

My father had been training me since I was young, but there was still so much more I needed to be shown before taking on the role of Alpha. There was also so much to be figured out when it came to Maya and me. She is to be Luna, but she also would be the mate to our pack’s betas as well. I had decided to appoint both Noah and Eli as betas long before we met Maya, but now this arrangement may make the pack feel uneasy. Since Alphas tend to be very possessive of their mates their pack could see this arrangement as volatile and dangerous.

That could not be further from the truth, but our pack was full of traditionalists and this was in no way going to be a smooth transition. My father said he was still being approached about my ability to run the pack, even some males being so bold as to threaten to challenge me when I returned. Needless to say, I felt a need to return home and show them how wrong they are! The call today had me especially angry, because Eli’s father had again threated my father saying he had men ready to back him up if my father did not convince me to reject Maya as my mate and convince Eli to do the same.

I told Eli everything as soon as I hung up with my father, and he was furious and took off for a run as soon as I finished talking. He had already been gone several hours now, and Maya was beginning to feel uneasy. She had tried to rest after training, but I could hear her pacing in her room instead.

“Should one of us go talk to her?” Noah asked Thomas and I.

“She said she wanted to be alone, but I am worried that if she keeps this up, she will lose control of her emotions again.” Thomas says fidgeting in his seat.

“Where the hell is he?” I growl out in frustration.

I was worried of course, but I knew he could handle himself. What made mad is he had to know what this was doing to Maya. How could he not feel how upset she was? We could feel her anxiety through the bond, how could he ignore that?

“I am going to go look for him!” I say not being able to handle Maya feeling so upset.

“Let us know when you find him.” Noah says. “And you better give him an ear full for this.”

I nodded and walked out the front door in search of Eli. I shifted quickly and took off in the direction of his scent. He had a lot of explaining to do.

(Maya POV)

Eli had been gone too long; it didn’t feel right! Something had to be wrong with him! I couldn’t feel him through our bond, and every time I tried to talk to him through the mind link, I felt like I couldn’t even reach him. We had been so happy since we came her and settled Thomas in, and my powers were more under control. Now this! I had let myself believe that things would be fine! That they were getting better, but this had me worried. What if something happened to him? I could not push away this lingering feeling in my stomach that something bad was about to happen.

I hadn’t even realized that I had been pacing so much until Noah and Thomas cam e to check on me.

“Hey, Are you ok love?” Noah asked stepping toward me and leading me to sit on my bed.

I feel tears building and stinging the corners of my eye. “I just have this awful feeling.” I say in an almost whisper.

I had this fear that if I said it too loud that something bad would for sure happen.

“I know you are worried, but Tommy has gone out to look for him. Maybe he fell asleep after running and lost track of time. You know how sleepy he gets after a run.” Noah says rubbing my hand gently.

I feel myself relax from this simple touch and I was grateful for it.

“It’s ok to worry for him. Tommy will contact us soon I’m sure.” Thomas says running his hand slowly down my back.

I was so glad to have such amazing mates when I felt myself beginning to spiral into a panic. Now that my powers were so sensitive to my emotional state, I need them as my anchor. Worry still lingered in my mind but soon my eyes grew heavy as my body relaxed more.

“Let’s stay with her.” I hear Thomas tell Noah and I feel their warm bodies surround me.

With a faint smile I feel myself drift to sleep knowing I am completely safe with them.

(Tommy POV)

I had not been running long when Eli’s scent began to grow stronger, but I was confused by this. He had been gone for so long I had expected to find him much further away. As I sensed I was drawing closer I focus on my sight and scanned the are looking for him. I didn’t see any sign of his wolf in the area from where I had stopped, I was going to need to do a more extensive search. Why would he be so hard to find though? After a few minutes I was ready to move on to another section of forest until a flash of color caught my eye. It was Eli, but he was in human floor lying motionless on the ground in a clearing.

I rushed toward him and as soon as I was beside him, I rolled him over and called out his name several times. He did not respond, and his body was limp to my touch. I laid him flat and rested my head on his chest. His heart was still beating but he seemed to be out cold. My body tensed as soon as I realized he was passed out, and my gut was telling me it was not of his own accord. Someone had done this to him. My wolf instantly growled in warning at whoever might be near.
A laugh came from behind the tree line across from me and a moment later out stepped Maya’s father, Alpha Kace.

His wicked smirk makes my blood run cold. Maya….I had to warn Maya!

As quickly as I could I opened the mind link between us and sent the others a warning before I felt hands grabbing me and a sharp pain to the side of my neck, and darkness feel over my eyes.

(Noah POV)

The sound of Tommy’s voice in my head rang out as if he was screaming to us through the link. Maya sat up suddenly and I could hear her heart racing.

“He’s here!” She says with a shaky voice.

“Who?” Thomas asks.

“Alpha Kace, Maya’s father! He found us!” I say quickly climbing down from the bed.

I felt my mind beginning to race, I had to think of something quick. No doubt Tommy and Eli had been taken, and that was why Tommy was so frantic in his message to us. I began to pace to try and clear my head, but Maya’s soft cries were hard to filter out. She was terrified and I wanted to console her, but I needed to think of a way to get her out of here. I turn toward the door, but Thomas stops me.

“Where are you going?” He asks.

“I need to figure out a way out of here!” I say through gritted teeth.

Thomas pauses and looks away as if he is thinking something over.

“I have a way to get us out, but I am not sure if we have time to rescue the others. We will only have a small window to escape.” He says.
I knew Tommy would tell us to protect Maya no matter what, and honestly that was my first priority too.

“Do it.” I tell him.

He nods and pulls out a small phone and puts it to his ear.

“Hello? It’s Thomas, Alpha Kace is here and he is coming for Maya. Two of the others have probably already been taken but Maya and the ones of us left need a way out of here. I know, but this is urgent! I will speak before the council myself once Maya is safe! Do it now!” Thomas yells rushing toward Maya and helping her to her feet. She is shaking, so he supports her until they are standing beside me. Before I can ask anything, a strange blue mist appears and grows until it’s big enough for us to walk through.

“Let’s go.” Thomas says and steps through it with Maya close to him.

I quickly follow and in a split second the mist gate disappears. I look around me and I am in awe at what I see.

“Where are we?” I ask Thomas.

“My home. The home of the Fae.”
