Chapter 80
(Maya POV)
My heart stopped seeing my father standing only a few feet away from me. I had hoped to never see him again, and here he was standing next to the Alpha of the pack that promised to protect me.
“What is going on? Why is he here?” Noah asks, anger seeping out with each word.
“He is here to negotiate Tommy and Eli’s release.” Tommy’s father says.
“We already know what he wants, and he can’t have her!” Noah says stepping in front of me, Thomas following until I was completely hidden.
“Let’s sit for now and try to discuss this peacefully.” Tommy’s father says.
I glance from him to my father and the smirk on his face only told me he had no intention of being reasonable. He wanted me, and if the pack could get back Tommy who is the next alpha, they would choose him over me. I knew that and I didn’t expect anything more, I was a stranger to them, and trouble followed me wherever I went. Noah took my hand and lead me to a chair and pulled it out for me. He and Thomas sat in a chair on either side of me, and both held my hands firmly.
“Alpha Kace is here for Maya, you are right. However, he has come up with an alternative option where Maya would be able to remain here. We are aware that Maya holds quite a lot of power within her. Alpha Kace has spoken to a witch who would be willing to perform a ritual to transfer Maya’s powers to Alpha Kace. He will have what he wants and will release Tommy and Eli in exchange for this.” I watched Tommy’s father closely and I could see the pain he was in.
His son was a prisoner, and there was a hostile Alpha sitting beside him. I was tired, tired of fighting back and tired of running. I didn’t care to ask what could happen to me during this ritual, I stood and looked to my father.
“I’ll do it. I will go with you and take part in the ritual, but only when Tommy and Eli walk through that door unharmed.” I tell him.
I was tired.
His smile grew at my words and he looked to one of his men standing by the door. Were they already here? Noah stood and pulled me closer.
“What are you doing? That ritual could be dangerous, it could kill you!” He whispers in my ear.
I knew that, and I was willing to take that chance. My mother might have done all this to save me as a child but if she knew now all that would happen because of what I was, I knew she would tell me to set myself free. There was no reason for me to hold onto the powers within me, so why fight so hard to keep them?
“Don’t worry, if he kills me he gets nothing. It’s a win win.” I tell him with a forced smile.
Thomas squeezes my hand slightly and I turn to the door and waited for my mates to be brought in. Two men pushed them forward and through the door soon after with their hands bound in front of them. They must have done something to them to keep them bound like that, but I didn’t want to even think of what that could have been. Tommy’s father stood quickly almost knocking over his chair and rushed over to Tommy.
“Untie him!” He yells turning to look at my father.
My father nods to one of the men, and the man pulls out a small enclosed knife form his pocket and cut Tommy’s binds. Tommy stumbled from the action and fell into Alpha Christopher’s arms. The other guard also cut Eli’s binds and he fell to the floor. I pushed my chair away and rushed over to him.
“Eli are you ok?” I ask him softly, even though I knew he wasn’t ok.
“I’m ok.” He says with a shaky voice.
He pushes himself from the floor and attempts to stand with my help. I walk him over to the chair where I had been sitting and he falls into it roughly.
“You have what you asked for, now give me my daughter.” Alpha Kace says loudly.
“No! No, please no.” Tommy says suddenly.
He looked weak, and I wanted to hold him so badly.
“She has already agreed to come with me, so save your breath little alpha.” My father says standing and signaling for his men to escort me out.
Noah and Thomas stood to object, but I looked to them and rested a hand on each of their arms as a way of telling them to not fight this. Noah looked furious as the men stepped toward me and grabbed me by my arms and pulling me toward the door.
“Wait! I want someone to accompany her, so that I know for certain she will be returned once the ritual is complete!” Alpha Christopher says stepping away from Tommy for a moment.
“I will go!” Thomas stands and volunteers before any of my other mates could.
“And who are you?” My father asks.
My heart raced suddenly; did he not know about Thomas being my fourth mate? I thought back and realized he couldn’t know! This could be an advantage in our favor, because he must not know that Thomas is Fae either. I look to Thomas and give him a look and I pray he is thinking the same as me. He nods and steps closer.
“I am a friend of Maya’s. I am willing to go and be sure to bring her back safely.” He says looking to Alpha Christopher.
“Ok, thank you for accompanying her.” Alpha Christopher says stepping up to Thomas and leaning closer and whispering something in his ear.
Thomas nodded to him and walked over and stood beside me.
“Enough stalling! Let’s go!” My father says snapping his finger, and his men pull me toward the door.
Thomas follows behind us as we walk toward three large black SUVs waiting a little way down the path form the meeting hall. My father climbs into the first SUV and Thomas and I are led to the second, where more men were waiting and opened the door for us. The men escorting me, forced me inside and Thomas climbed in and sat beside me. My heart was pounding now, because inside I felt like this was the last time I would be here. I did not doubt that Thomas would try his best to keep me safe, but he was one man against dozens.
My father never gave me the impression that he followed through with his deals if he didn’t wish to. Whatever he had planned for me, I doubted I would live long enough to be returned. My eyes burned with tears as I thought that I hadn’t even said goodbye to Tommy, Eli and Noah. I just hope they knew how grateful I was and how much I cared for them. Thomas moved closer to me and took my hand, and I could feel a warm sensation. He was trying to help calm me, and I was thankful for it.
He was going to be the one physically able to get me through this, but if needed he would be a secret weapon. I wondered how my father and his men did not notice that Thomas didn’t have a wolf scent, but I was glad that they didn’t question him more when he told them he was only a friend. We were alone in the back seat, but we kept quite as we drove toward the road leading away from the pack lands. I didn’t know what to even say to Thomas, but I knew he could feel what I was feeling when we touched like this.
We were maybe another couple of minutes away from the end of the small road, when something hard slammed into the side of the SUV making it swerve sharply.
“What they hell was that?” One of the guards asked looking out of the windows but not slowing down.
I held tighter onto Thomas until there was another thud but this one was harder, and the SUV tilted, which made me slam into my door with a hard slam. I cried out from the pain of the impact which I was sure dislocated my shoulder. I didn’t have a chance to cry because yet another impact hit us and the SUV swerved hard making it unstable and fall on it’s side. The glass from the windows shattered as the car slammed hard on its side, sliding along the grass into the hood hits a near by tree.
My head was pounding, and my body hung from my seat, being held in place by my seat belt. My ears were ringing, and I could hear shouting, but I couldn’t make out any of the words. There was fighting and growls ringing out after sounds of cracking bones. Several people had shifted into wolf form from the sound of it, and I tried hard to open my eye and catch a glimpse of what was going on, but my eye felt heavy.
I could barely open one enough to see much, and even then, it was blurry and hard to make out. A groan caught my attention and I turned to the side of me and saw Thomas trying to move.
“Thomas? Are you….” I couldn’t finish before I felt the urge to cough and warm liquid sprayed from my mouth. Blood from the taste of it.
I must have been seriously injured but I couldn’t feel anything.
I was numb.
